Chris' need for asspats is endless. It's not so much a lack of self confidence as a bloated ego. Chris believes the world owes him his every whim, but that he is above having to work for anything he wants. It's the job of "the little people" to serve and provide for him. That goes for his self-esteem too. He can't be bothered to make himself happy, everyone else needs to do it for him.

When it comes down to it, Borb believed he was an overachieving exceptional individual...

But did they really? If we're to take Chris's word for it (bear with me), his initial diagnosis was a lot more hopeless, as in never being able to read or write. And even if you're sensible and reject Chris's word for it, Bob 'n' Barb still stubbornly clung to the notion that any mental abnormality was a kiss of death.

The way I've personally always read it, is that Borb never had the faintest idea about what's really wrong with Chris (comparatively mild autism) and just have a "catch all" vision for anybody with a mental handicap. So every time Chris did something that you would expect a normal person to do, they viewed it as some sort of minor miracle and gushed with praise for their special little soldier who was breaking the shackles of his handicap.

Course, I could be well off base with that.

I think Chris is shy, cowardly and, at times, borderline self-loathing. I don't think he has a lot of confidence at all.

What we perceive as confidence (his ideas that he's handsome, intelligent and creative) is really the result of Chris never questioning what Barb, gal-pals and teachers told him to make him feel better. To him, it's true because they told him so - he's gullible, not confident.

Like Alec said, what really define him is a massive amount of a sense of self-worth and entitlement - he thinks he deserves a girlfriend but he is not confident in his ability to get one by traditional means, which is why he needs the women to be introduced to him or to take the initiative when they see him in the street or lurching around at Mc Donalds.
He think he's entitled to a lot of things but he's too shy and cowardly to try and reach out to actually grab them because he knows he might well fail should he try.
Chris sounds like one of those male lead characters in a harem anime. I hope I am not the only person who sees it.

The guys in those are occasionally likeable and generally are nice to other people around them.

I don't think you are, because I think that's kind of how Chris see's himself, or at least back in the glory days.

I think that deep down, Chris knows he has nothing. No sweetheart, no Crystal, no job, still lives with his mom, a criminal record, nobody willing to hang out with him IN REAL LIFE, internet laughing stock, fat, banned from places.

That's part of what this recent high school obsession is. He knows he is worse off now, He was realitively better off back then (the timebomb of shitty parenting still hadn't fully gone off) and people were more forgiving of the Almighty Autistic Asshole. He, in his ignorance, felt better about himself. Now that life-preserver has turned into an anchor (the recent galpal expose) and he is getting more desperate. We may soon see true self-loathing or a Chrissie-fit of tremendous proportions.

Eh, people kinda frequently overestimate Chris' intelligence. They think that he secretly is aware of all sorts of crazy things. To be honest, no, Chris ultimately is just as retarded as he seems on the surface.

He's aware of a lot of the things you cite in your first paragraph, but not all of them, and he's not aware of the ultimate cause of all of them. Chris thinks that trolls are causing a lot of his problems nowadays. Also, for example, Chris fucking IRL curse-ye-ha-me-ha'd Mary Lee Walsh. He thought he could fucking cast a magical curse on his community college dean with his hands. Really, that says it all for me. Chris is fucking stupid as fuck and many of his surface emotions are actually accurate.

(Shrugs) I just like to think that after what, 6 years of online infamy a few of our points have made a dent in his ego. No wait, that's too strong of an analogy. Scratched the paint. Chris has spent his life looking for validation, but because of Borb his standards aren't that high.

it's been said best in this thread by Alec and the Tube-Monkey. Chris's self-esteem doesn't come from Chris himself. He's like a locomotive engine that runs purely on asspats. Give him some asspats and he'll smugly chug along all the way to the scene of the next wreck. But if nobody's around fuelling that fire, then he just sits and mopes in the train-yard. He does not take any personal responsibility for his life, and that definitely includes accepting responsibility for his self-image. (i don't think he's capable of understanding or realizing any of that though.)

The little engine that could (but won't because it causes him *SIGH*)

He's not a very useful engine.

Part of what may be contributing to his current pity party is that he hasn't had a "win" in awhile. Or at least something he can convince himself that it is a victory. It was always kind of awe-inspiring how Chris could literally bounce back from anything the second he got something, no matter how minor it actually was.

I wonder if we could somehow put him on the "Adult Chronicle Honor Roll"?

Brother, Chris is kind of an oxymoron. Chris believes he has billions of fans and is a geinus [sic], handsome, smart, etc... yet he also has low confidence with the ladies and everyone in general. The years of trolling might've taken its toll, but it is also likely to Chris being Chris, man. The graduation ceremony incident likely had nothing to do with it.

Actually, I think that's how Chris sees his life, or how he thinks his life should be anyway.

He refuses to be useful for anything. Yet he still wants the world to prop him up. It's like he owns a car that doesn't start, but he keeps asking other people to buy him gasoline.

Would be it be trolling to trick Chris into thinking he had achieved something? I feel like that's almost the only way he could get a solid "win" a this point. Then again, I'm always amazed at the stuff he's willing to pat himself on the back over.
