Chris-Chan: A Comprehensive History

I know I'm a lurker turned newfag, but that's what I enjoy about KF. It honestly feels like a way to relive the golden age of the internet where we'd pick on each other for stupid crap. It's sort of like the last bastion of the wild web.

On the topic of the documentary, I'm glad other people have been expressing the same thoughts I had about it. I had been listening to it at work and stopped because I got tired of Geno reading the facebook and twitter posts.

Same here. also lurker. also newfag. also kind of joined recently because it's freeing to be able to be anonymous and tell it like it is. Haven't been able to do that in ten years, so I like the farms because we're able to talk about what we really think without pandering or edginess.

I do have to say I applaud geno for this series. He doesn't defend chris. He doesn't idolize trolls. but most important he stays the fuck away from christory. I was a little saddened to learn that he wanted to take a break, but for real man, if you need to do that to be detached, go for it. It pays off. I started watching in late 2017 (I think it was around 6 that had come out?) and I rewatch the whole thing at least once yearly. Great content.

I also applaud geno for being and participating here. Respect for actually doing proper research which, yeah, sometimes calls for kiwi input.

As I said before, I only had a passing familiarity with Chris Chan.

I knew of Sonichu, saw some screenshots of the comics, and I heard the basic story that Chris was a guy with autism and an internet presence (not a good mix) and was basically mercilessly mocked and manipulated by trolls as he became increasingly weird and crazy.

But after, uh, recent events, I decided to jump into this online docu-series just to get the full picture of what this guy is/was all about.

I am up to Part XII and not only is it wild, but I'm amazed at how the same patterns just keep repeating. Chris is obviously someone that needed help and needed someone to regulate his internet time, and look, I'm all for trolling, but some of the stuff I've seen so far has gone into a territory that is just downright cruel. And stuff like setting up fake dates and dressing up in a pickle suit are pretty cringe to me, but hey.

Basically what I'm seeing is that we have parents that need to provide help for their clearly troubled son, a bunch of trolls with way too much time on their hands that dedicated themselves to picking on an autistic guy on the internet, and that guy with autism not learning from his mistakes, and all of those combine to form a spiral downwards into further insanity.

It was only a minority of people who ever went out of their way to interact with Chris in person (and not even necessarily people on this site).

Most of the people here haven't done anything other than view the content which he publicly posts himself. His content has millions of views, but in comparison there have only been as much as a few dozen "trolls" who've actually contacted him.

Also, the idea that "the trolls" would be solely to blame for his craziness is sketchy at best, given that he allegedly had patterns of destructive behavior as far back as when he was in Junior College and a regular at the GAMe PLACe - including behaviors such as his "love quest" which he has been doing for more than 20 years and is apparently still oblivious to why his behavior is problematic, or how he was a regular at the gAME pLACE for about 6 years, but regularily threw tantrums or cursed out the other players when he lost, and didn't possess basic etiquette or sportsmanship.

If I would "blame" anyone, it would be the parents - while some have suggested that Bob was a supportive father during Chris' early years (such as him working on projects rogether with Chris in his shed), everything else seems to indicate that, since as far back as the early 2000s - both Bob and Barb coddled him and never taught him any responsibility for his actions. Such as how when he was booted from the GAMe PLACe after a very long history of rude and obnoxious behavior, Bob and Barb's immediate reaction was to point blame at Michael Snyder and the kids who frequented there - with Bob even going so far as to suggest that Snyder, Megan, and the other kids all "conspired" to have him trolled.

On the flip side though, my thought is that his best legal defense would be for them to suggest he's too mentally incompetent to have understood his actions - and use the documented history of trolls manipulating him (e.x. the fake dates, the "Julay" saga, etc) to argue that Bella and the other trolls were able to manipulate him into the incest saga as well. I'm not sure how that will fly with the judge or jury, but I think it's his best shot at having a competent defense.

I kind of stopped watching around the end of the classic chris era and when Chris becomes a tomgirl...both because its when shit starts to get sad and because its when shit gets BORING. Its not even Geno's fault necessarily, there just isnt WHAT to talk about much of interest. Most iconic trolls had moved on after Bob's death and the ones that stuck around are boring as hell in comparison to someone like Liquid Chris and Alec.

Geno is alright and honestly, if I was in his shoes, not sure if I would bother to even finish this doc at this point, the christine shit is BORING outside of a few snippets of funny insanity here and there. He is at the "smiling chris" phase, or at least the early stages of it, where nothing "phases" chris anymore as he is always simping for his imaginary shit like the merge and what not. So Geno is just reading the twitter of a delusional person which, lets be honest, without the visual imput it just isnt as entertaining. And now with the incest saga, I would feel even less invested in finishing this because we all know how it ends in the worst way possible...its boring delusional shit with the ocassional tard sperg and suddenly incest!

Trust me, Im sure Geno thought this was going to be waaaay more simple back when he started it years ago. I would honestly prefer if he explored other lolcows and internet personel and dumped this series into "IM WORKING ON IT" mode (aka, never)

He has indirectly interacted with him in the past in a few instances by having Chris comments on certain episodes a few times pinned to the top of them, for people all to see.

But apart from potentially bringing this up in a slight nod to Chris and his online interaction in future episodes, Geno has mostly kept his distance from him, unlike certain other people on youtube who have created content related to Chris, who have gone a bit further.

They actually moved to another school district to avoid having him placed in a special school, rather than let him get the help that he needed. It went downhill from there. Seems like that's when the immaculate victim thing started. Bob and Barb concluded that Chris IS special, but in a good way, and better than everyone else, entitled to special treatment, and nothing is his fault. Why have him go to a special school to address his specific challenges, when you can send him to a normal school, and pay girls to tolerate him. High school girls with no training. who were just their to get their own education. Great parenting.

In addition to their wise decisions in regard to his education, they also seem to have used toys, video games, and the internet to basically keep him out of their hair. I've been on this Crazy Train from the beginning. I used to watch his early videos, where he would be yelling and throwing stuff around. I always wondered what exactly his parents were doing when he was making those. Like first of all, this family were basically shut ins (parents were most likely home), and that does not appear to be a larger than average house, there is no way they were not aware of this noise. But you only see Bob come in during one video to see WTF?, and it was only because he was worried about the house being condemned.

As soon as they started getting the prank calls, and it became apparent that the first internet girlfriend was a hoax, they should have limited and monitored his internet usage. I am absolutely amazed that they didn't do this. It was so disruptive to their home life. Calls at all hours of the night, hookers being sent to the house, Chris tard raging about "da trolls", and acting like a circus animal in his bedroom as he made videos. Why they didn't just straight up cancel their internet service (unlikely that Bob & Barb used it, given their age and um, intellect), and get a new phone number is beyond me. Take him to the library once a week to upload his little gay comics. Unless they just figured it kept Chris occupied and out of their hair. They allowed this stuff to go on and on, and get worse as he became more notorious on the internet, and it was a simple fix. We wouldn't even be on here discussing Chris right now if they nipped it in the bud.

There was another instance when Bob came in, and that's when we got the Internet Lumberjack. That was because Chris was jerking it in front of their computer, which was in the kitchen, and trolls where calling the house at the same time, telling Bob that Chris was going to commit suicide on YouTube. Why didn't he restrict internet for Chris is beyond anyone.

Speaking on that, after for Julaaays eyes only video, someone screen caped that image and sent it as a postcard to the Chandlers. In a rare attempt at parenting, Bob restricted Chris' internet access for a limited time.

Honestly, it works if you want to get a "timeline" of it all because the wiki can be a tad confusing when you try to put it all in a single narrative linear structure. But I can see what you mean, the doc is enjoyed especially by basic bitches who cant be bothered to at least look at the cwcki and just see the doc as supplementary instead of the "real deal".
