Chris-Chan: A Comprehensive History

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
I like it. Keeps it so he’s just a narrator and not someone trying to persuade.
It's not inherently bad, but you cant do it in hour long segments without suffering quality, might be why he inserts the archived video for prolonged periods of the videos.

The videos are present in the documentary because it's shit that happened. That's just a part of it. Wouldn't make much sense to exclude them unless it's something extremely trivial.

True, even for their size a lot of important shit is left out. You'd probably have to double them to cut through the weeds of just why some of the shit happened. modern Chris is shit show, but a lot of the guys from 10 years ago really need to set the record straight how things developed. I've always felt that's more important than just reading the content on the wiki and using archived footage, but this my bias to the type of people that get attracted to the Chris nowadays not what attracted the OG Chris Trolls. It makes it sound pretentious when you ask "have you even read Sonichu?" but it's true, they never make an effort to Understand Chris.

I'm curious if you've ever listened to something like Revolutions by Mike Duncan.

A lot of amateur historians will reference guys like Mike as an influence. I can't say if Geno is familiar with his works, but what Mike did really well was narrate in a rather dry tone and be very factual, but time things in a humorous way. He'd drop a little tidbit about some young noble and then 40 minutes later come back to it for a payoff where it turns out that young noble became the governor of Haiti or something. Basically brick jokes + history. He'll also just add a bit of sarcastic intonation here and there for the more ridiculous moments. There other things he does to be entertaining but those are the main two. Brick jokes and subtle sarcasm.

Defunctland does it. The History Of Hockey podcast did it. It's pretty much become the standard way to do a history podcast/documentary without being completely bland.

Geno does the same thing. He delivers factual information in this emotionless tone, except when he's dropping in a little bit of sarcasm, or calling back to something from 40 minutes earlier in the video, or whatever.

So, TL;DR, do you listen to other content by amateur historians? Just curious.

Double post cus this thread isn't crazy active.

Will someone please answer Geno's questions? Mans been asking the same 3 questions for years and no one will answer him!
What made him this way: Genetic autism and an upbringing by parents who were too old to understand his needs, therefore not meeting them. Also, being raised by pop culture with no friends. The trolling certainly didn't help.

What is the attraction: People love a trainwreck, and not only is Chris a trainwreck, he's the original internet trainwreck. He's been grandfathered in, despite tons of equally degenerate weirdos being out there. The fact all of the crazy shit is heavily documented also helps since you can go on the Cwcki and browse for hours, or watch a 40+ part documentary series going over every aspect of his life. Not saying that he isn't a weirdo who's done a lot of crazy shit, he has and that's the main draw, but the fact he's done so much, it's all been catalogued into easily digestible formats, and he's been around longer than almost any other cow puts him over the top as THE lolcow.

What keeps us fascinated: Chris's early lolcow status means he's become a mainstream internet meme. He also consistently keeps getting worse.

Okay real talk, the night Chris was featured on Tucker my parents called me about it. Both of them are over 60. When your geriatric parents are mentioning Chris to you, he’s not just a niche thing anymore.

My Half Brother once called Chris “An obscure meme nobody really cares about anymore”. And I guess to our generation there’s some truth to that. A lot of us who frequent the Chris board from the old days only care because we want to see how it ends. But then the incest saga started and now…. Well let’s just say much mom periodically calls to ask what happening with that autistic guy who raped his mom and my dad reads the Cwcki.

Yeah like, i knew all this. Was just memeing cus geno asks those questions every episode and doesn't actually attempt to answer them in the series.

I just don't know. He was only mentioned once in passing as a complete and utter mockery just like on MTV.

I think he's said some time in January or February, I think with everything that's happened he's considering wrapping it up as best he can and in short order and trying to move on he doesn't want to be associated with Chris as a topic anymore.
I don't blame him, So it's part 59 now he could do an hour long episodes to end on part 70 or finish on part 100.
