Chris is a fascinating subject due to him having absolutely terrible luck. His genes were an unlucky strike. His parents were an unlucky strike. His environment was an unlucky strike. There is, however, one area where Chris continually has good luck, despite the odds-- getting mentioned in the media. Pre-trolling, when no one was interested in his shock value, Chris found himself on TV news at least twice, and had letters published in two major magazines, one of which was Nintendo Power. None of these were rather easy tasks to accomplish, especially for someone who isn't active in his community. Somehow, Chris kept beating the odds in this one, extremely narrow category.

I'm not even going to factor in getting himself in the local papers, that's actually ridiculously easy in a small town.

I'm not sure if there's any conclusion to be drawn here, I just thought it would be right to point out the one glaring exception to the "Chris's luck is shit" theme in his life.

I don't think that was luck, ChurchofGodbear. It was a deliberate effort to thrust himself in the limelight ( or his parents doing the same.) They agreed to him being on the "Sonic watch and win sweepstakes" because it would make them look like they were helping their autistic child by buying him tons of vidya. I still can't get over the reporter saying that Chrissy mastering "one game after the other" was a sign of "how well he was doing."

Everything else, NintendoPower, Fridays After Five, the Ruckerville Town Hall Meeting, was because of a ceaseless attempt at attention whoring, in order to be "famous".

I guess it is luck though, that there wasn't a channel 5 story on him assaulting a Jewish game store owner.

Don't forget the time the local news covered Casa Chandler burning down. Wonder if that's going to make it to "Yep, I'm on TV: The Director's Cut."

I wonder what went on behind the scenes when Nintendo Power and Shojo Beat decided to publish Christian's letters about being a frustrated virgin. I can only speculate that the editorial staff had to have been proto-trolls: Christian's letters were simply too weird not to publish. This might partially explain Christian's "luck" with print media.

On the (increasingly rarer) occasions where I feel sorry for Chris, it's usually because he does have awful luck. He would have been better off being born to swollen-belly stick-legged click-click parents in a tribe. Unless he got eaten by lions.

Edit: Oh, in the media. Eh, I wouldn't call it luck. People love retarded children, but would rather retarded adults stay the fuck out of society.

For the animal crossing stuff, I remember being an avid reader of NP back in thoose days and thinking "Oh, well they will publish about any town as long as it looks good" when I saw CWCville, not knowing that later he would become an internet sensation.

Then years later I see it on the cwcki and think "Heyyy!"

So that is your answer.

Even if it was attention-whoring, it's still remarkable that he was successful at it. What were the odds of winning the sweepstakes, much less being featured on a news show about it? It's not exactly easy to call up a news station and say "Mah boy is speshul! Put him on the teevee!" They're in a position to be SLIGHTLY more choosy than that. Likewise, Nintendo Power had thousands of letters each month... by sheer numbers, it was unlikely Chris's letter would be printed.

One television appearance involved winning a contest and the pokemon news report involved him just being at the right place at the right time. In terms of the odds he was lucky I guess.

Chris has a ton of dumb luck in my opinion. His genes aside he's continually winning different contests, he got to have his pal-pals (-for-hire) in high school, he got on honor roll, got accepted to college, made the dean's list DESPITE being suspended, he got the SSI that he may or may not qualify for and his run-ins with the law has never amounted to anything. He'll mutter in insults under his breath, go to the women's bathroom, act and dress flamboyantly and being a public nuisance in general and, again, has never had to face any repercussions.

Yeah, he has shitty genes and his family situation was never good, but I'd say that considering what he was born with, Chris has been pretty damn lucky IMO.

Chris is lucky in sort of a Mr. Magoo way.

He isn't lucky in getting nice things, just lucky in having terrible things not happen to him.

It would have been perfectly reasonable for him to have his license at least suspended, to have had to legitimate community service, to have been sued for sexual harassment, and been convicted of at least one or two misdemeanors. But he just manages to waltz out of every bad situation and go on his merry way.

In the case of the Nintendo Power letters, I think it was the fact that he was basically saying, "I am an unattractive schmuck, and by giving Nintendo money for this game, I have become a sex god." Which, let's be honest, is the market dating sims are aimed at, but Nintendo probably don't want to say out loud.

Awful luck? i don't know...i always saw that subject as some sort of autistic tragedy, i mean, he has terrible luck in those things that you have mentioned, but he has also some "good" luck when it comes to not receiving any kind of punishment for his acts... there are several moments in his life in which he could have ended up in jail, or getting his arse kicked, and he somehow manages to go away with it... how?

He's like an IRL Forrest Gump.

Except instead of a feather floating in the wind, the symbol for Christian's life will be dirty crapped briefs.

People have already said it, but Chris isn't unlucky. Despite all the things you mentioned he gets away with a lot most of the time. It's just that now he's having to face the repercussions of his actions, which some would say is long overdue.
I agree with both the point that he's been lucky to avoid facing the consequences of his actions, and that it's not a bad thing it's finally happening now.

I just find it remarkable that a schmuck who is a perfect storm of bad circumstances does manage to accomplish things which are statistically unlikely.

...of course, in that, I don't factor in anything that's happened post-trolling. With people watching him, it's not remarkable for Chris to come to the attention of the media.

So back in the day when Nintendo Power existed, Animal crossing was a 'new' game and I had both, that collom on animal crossing towns frequently popped up. Really they would showcase any town so long as it looked like something unique was done with it or that alot of manhours were put into making it look good (or you could *cough* cheat, they wouldent really know)

Chris had both.

This was the very first Animal Crossing release for GameCube, and I don't think it was particularly popular at the time. Chris was probably one of very few submissions.

Didn't the Gamecube Animal Crossing spark the craze? Or was that the DS version?

It was for the Gamecube, and I thought it was pretty popular, but what do I know? My memories simply involve using my Action Replay to get all the NES games, then playing Punchout and Social Justice Warrios Got the Woods
