Chris's current plan is to drive the van over the rockies to Seattle taking one stop to rest in a parking lot.

After all these years it still shocks me when Chris says he's going to do something like this as if it's the most reasonable alternative. Like when he said he was going to go to Magfest(?) and just sleep in his car if he couldn't crash in a gal-pal's hotel room. Sleep. In his car. In the middle of D.C. In fucking January.

And lest we forget his car breaking down on the way back from Bronycon the other year. It couldn't survive the trip from Baltimore to Ruckersville, how is he going to get to Seattle? It's going to take a shit on the highway before he's even halfway to Cleveland.

I know he's literally retarded, but it still boggles the mind when he thinks something like a cross-country drive is within the realm of possibility (CPU Goddess shit notwithstanding).

This is bad news all around. Chris is Chris and it's in his head. He would try this if no one stepped in. As said van dies he's fucked and rescue ops. The chandlers have then 0 cars that work and cost to get van back and fixed shoot way up vs local break down Chris needs a flight back etc. Better off new (used)car at that point. Seen it happen to road trippers.

I don't think the argument here is that Chris deserves money to go to a Bronycon. I think the argument is that he's going one way or the other, and flying is the safer option. I would understand the vitriol if Josh was straight-up asking for money, but he's not. He's looking for ideas that can be implemented so that Chris can make his own money for the trip. I don't get why that's such an abhorrent idea to some of you.

As for the motive behind Null's involvement in this whole thing, you have to keep in mind that this site started as a CWC site. It's evolved well beyond that since, but Chris was very much the foundation for the Farms, and Kiwis have played a substantial part in Chris' life (either directly or otherwise) from the start. Null is clearly aware at this point that he shouldn't expect anything in return from Chris. I think it's just that Chris has been a big part of Josh's life (online at least), and I seem to remember him saying in a MATI stream that he feels somewhat responsible for Chris.

Still, I wouldn't call this enabling behavior. It's not even close. Chris has the capability to make money for his own trip, and Josh seems to be fostering that. I don't see what the big problem with that is.

If you want to step in, acting as a middle-man for drawings could be a legitimately helpful first step. If he's in any way prepaid for any amount of work he's yet to do, he will not finish it. You could commission drawings from him on behalf of others to release the money to him only after he has created and mailed them to you. Basically step in and make the connection between work and money as unambiguously direct as possible. Even the small gap between receiving money while still having to ship it is just too much for him.
