It's not just money that's required to set up a conservatorship -- the conservatee (Is that the right word?) needs someone who cares about him/her in order to set it up.

In Britney's case, I am convinced that her dad had her best interests in mind. He saw the self-destructive path that she was on and recognized that she was on track to join "Club 27" and stepped in to get her the help and support that she needed.

It sounds scary to a sane outside observer because we all value our independence, and more importantly can handle being independent without going off the rails. But I really don't think that was the case for Britney.

The mob mentality intensified to the point that her dad said: "Screw it, it's not worth it." and gave up, and thankfully nothing too bad has happened since the conservatorship has been dissolved, but if things go wrong, we won't know until it's too late.
