If he's still into that Toro game, he might accept your friend request, since the whole goal of the game is to get a bunch of friends.
Friend requests sent from the Toro game look exactly like any regular friend request, so he couldn't know if you found him through the game or not. Until he realizes that you're not on his Toro garden.

Heh, y'know, the funny thing about that toro game is that Chris extorted some of his PSN friends to get friends on the toro game. He told someone who's been on his friends list for awhile (and I'm paraphrasing), "download this game and add me or I'm removing you from my friend's list!"

Just putting this out there as I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but Playstation network doesn't use friend codes, just your screen name called your Playstation ID. It's essentially the same as Xbox live with your gamertag. That's why the OP can't find a "friend code". All your achievements/trophies, friends, and online purchase history is tied to the PSN ID or Gamertag.

(edit) Oh, and it's also worth mentioning that if the OP's friend is wanting to play with Chris online then they're going to be disappointed, Chris doesn't seem to want to play with others and he views people on his friends list as a means to an end, like helping him get trophies or this Toro network thing.
