Lovequest Chris Thinks Trolls Are Hacking His Text Messages

This is sad. The kindest thing to do for him now is to cut off the texts with him completely. Yes, he'll convince himself that trolls are deleting the messages on their way to his phone, but there is no need to give him anymore grist for the mill. This sad saga (yes, I said saga) needs to end.
Thetan hasn't texted back in months. Since the stop of texting Chris he has sent pictures of his penis contraption, texts asking to move in with Thetan, texts asking if Thetan would have his baby, and other random texts basically hinting that he loved her and that he wants to try and be with her. Again, Thetan has written nothing for MONTHS.

Thetan could block Chris's number, though. Which would be a loss for us, content-wise, but might be the kindest thing to do for Chris.

I honestly don't really give a rat's ass about Chris's feelings, though; I donated to the fire fund, but that was because fires suck and nobody should have to go through that, even a mean-spirited jerk like Chris.
And what would blocking the number do that ignoring him (for months) already hasn't? He'll think the texts are going through anyway... or that it's the trolls. Even shutting the number down won't do anything on Chris's end unless he tries to call it... @Thetan has Chris ever called that phone?

I've never tried to text anyone who's blocked me. Does it just go through or does it bounce back?
I believe it just bounces back as "your text cannot be sent"
It does not bounce back; or at least it didn't when I tested it out a long time ago. Friends and I were trying to see what would happen if you text a landline and other stuff like that. We tried an old deactivated phone and nothing happened. The text we sent on the working phone said "Sent" but not "Read" and the ones to landlines said "Sent" but not "Read" as well. We also tried it with mine and friend's phone where they blocked me (so the phone was still activated) and it went through as both "Sent" and "Read". Trying to call a deactivated phone gives you that weird robot message but calling a blocked number just makes it ring forever without an answering machine pick up.

Again, this was 5 years or so ago so who knows what happens now; but I'm going to assume it's pretty much the same thing.

As it stands, even if Chris found out the phone was deactivated or that he was blocked, he would only assume it was trolls doing at this point.

I wondered if Chris would do something on my birthday, but I definitely wasn't expecting this. And yet part of me feels like I should've seen it coming anyway.

Honestly I think Bob made the right choice in convincing Chris that he may as well stay on the dole. Chris is deeply paranoid, mentally ill and potentially dangerous so he's really only fit to either be a lolcow or a police officer.
Every time someone says Chris should get a job and responsibilities, I feel the need to remind everyone our number one worry for him (besides debt/homelessness) at the moment is getting arrested for assault after vandalizing the displays of a children's cartoon show. Chris isn't capable of holding a job.

IIRC @Marvin once said that the reason that Chris doesn't get a job is because he has the option not to (:tugboat:). So I'm guessing that if push came to shove (i.e. Barb deciding that Chris needed to get a job, no more tugboat, ect.) Chris could at least do a passing job. Or good enough not to get fired on the first day.

Yeah, basically, if Barb needed Chris to get a job to support their household, Chris would get a job. He might fuck up a couple of times, but eventually he'd get one.

If things are really bad and he absolutely can't keep a job, something serious would happen. The question would be: would Barb hold Chris accountable or would she hold Chris' boss accountable?

Barb would get into a big fight and possibly get arrested if Chris can't get a job. It would just depend on if she holds Chris responsible or if she holds the boss responsible.

(Though personally, I don't think it'll come to that. I think that with enough pressure, Chris could maintain a fast food job. He just has zero reason to get a job right now.)

It may just be Chris' poor grasp of English, but I find it interesting that he thinks that trolls are hacking into his texts rather than Renee's. This is especially true since the only things that have been posted are what he's sent to her. Either Renee is the only person he texts (which would mean that Catherine only communicated with him through email and OKCupid), or this is a combination of ego, stupidity, and, as someone else mentioned, "not my fault" blame shifting.

See, I have to disagree, with where he is right now, I don't see Chris lasting at any job. With old comic pages, new medallion issues, and new drawing commission issues; we've seen how poorly Chris handle's self-motivation and work ethic. He got fired from Wendy's less than a month after he started. And, as I've said, I've worked there... it's impossible to get fired. We've had special needs come in and completely fuck up and they stayed on until their job change. And that was old, dorky Chris.... this is new and 'improved' Christina we're talking about. No fast food restaurant is going to hire a man-child trying to be a girl who rarely showers and talks about god knows what all day. And now he's trying to be 'sex positive'? That means he'll likely make some co-worker uncomfortable by saying something inappropriate or asking some questions he shouldn't and that'll be a fun day on the job for him then.

Even if he lost the Lesbian look, he's still so far gone social-wise that he won't last long ANYWHERE, even Walmart or Cosco would have problems with him that they'd find just not worth their time and money.

I'm not trying to A-log or in any way say that Chris sucks or that anyone else is better, I'm laying down the facts as an employer would. No one would hire Chris and keep him for more than a month or two. Eventually he would cross a line that they could justify firing the special kid.

I'm not so sure about that, these places like to try to appear to be ultra politically correct and all inclusive, so as not to appear to be discriminatory. I have seen (and smelt) plenty of people working at McDonald's who are probably deserving of their own wikis.

But the point does stand that even if they hire him, he'd manage to fuck it up after a matter of days (if not hours)

Chris has created a situation where Thetan literally cannot back out. If she confesses, Chris will text "the trolls" telling them that he knows they're lying. If she ignores or blocks him, trolls have taken control of his phone and are stopping the messages getting through. Meanwhile, Chris has decided that Thetan is pretending to be Renee, who actually exists, and we're all going along with Thetan's version, snickering behind our trollface masks as we make post after post expressing our disbelief that Chris has fallen for yet another troll. What he thinks of the Trolling Ethics thread, Godbear only knows.

I wonder if maybe Chris is just in denial - in his clogged and overworked heart, he knows Renee is a fake, but he's leapt on the incredibly unlikely possibility that Thetan's posts are a double-bluff because it's somehow easier than confronting the truth.

I don't know, it's like he thinks if he denies it hard enough, Renee will magically become real.
