I've been saying for years that Borb should give Chris $20 a week and put the rest of his tugboat towards the upkeep of the house. And if he wanted something more expensive like a videogame he could save up for a few weeks in advance. But Chris has proven many times that he lives very much in the present and consequences mean nothing to him.

Really I blame the wellfare system for not cracking down on the Chandlers. Chris is unemployable alright, but only by his own hands.

He pays a lot for bills (or maybe Snyder). I don't think Chris is spending a majority of his tugboat on video games. The welfare system doesn't really need to crack down on the Chandlers, reality is doing it for them.

And really, it's not up to them to be that concerned about what Chris does with his money. He gets the tugboat because Bob's been able to establish that, due to his autism, Chris can't make a living wage. I mean, maybe if they're really concerned, they could establish some system to measure the income of the whole household, but I think the government has bigger things to worry about.

This debate comes up sometimes when people see someone buying steak or junk food with food stamps. Really, what does it matter? At the end of the month a certain amount of money is spent either way, so who cares what it's spent on? The only person who has to deal with Chris mis-managing his tugboat is Chris. It's not as if the taxpayers have to pay his bills on top of his tugboat because he blew it this month.

^What bothers me about food stamps being used to buy junk food is that people on food stamps are also likely on government insurance (Medicare, whatever) and if they're not taking care of themselves, who pays the bill for such and such as diabetes medication, blood pressure medication, etc? The taxpayer... again. I worked as a stocker in a grocery store, and while junk food here and then is not an issue, I've seen obese people (and obese families) on food stamps and I'm thinking to myself, well fuck, it's not as if they NEED food stamps because they're obviously not starving. Why should I have to pay for someone else's junk food/unhealthy choices AND their health care as well? Plus parents buy shit for their kids on food stamps and it just makes for an unhealthy cycle where the kids grow up and make shit food choices and they all end up with diabeetus and shit. So somejerk, sometimes additional bills ARE added on top of tugboats.

Not everyone on food stamps is like this, so I am not condemning welfare in itself, I just condemn how welfare can in some cases enable people to make shitty choices.

I remember Bob tried to control Chris' spending before by not giving Chris any cash, instead he had these prepaid cards he could use for food and such while Bob took most of the tugboat to pay rent and the credit card bills Chris racked up.

It is extremely irritating when people like Chris have more disposable income than those of us who work, but look at it this way; the money's gone from the moment it get's transferred to Chris' account, so what he chooses to spend it on is entirely irrelevant. He's also backing himself into a corner with inappropriate spending habits so it's only damaging himself in the long run.

The problem with these systems is more the fact that they rely on simply transferring sums of money into people's accounts, so people brought up on them (like Chris) have absolutely zero concept of the value of money or the stresses inherent in trying to budget a pay cheque.

Eh, well, I don't expect people to be perfect. It's pretty difficult to eat right and exercise properly, particularly if you're already poor. The government could do a lot more good and encourage people to eat healthier if they looked into things like subsidies to encourage better availability of healthier food.

I get the argument and it's a valid one, but i just don't see a way to reasonably make it happen that doesn't involve the government massively overreaching in one way or another. Your argument is that it's unfair to punish the taxpayer because of the poor choices of a few people who don't get it. But It's also unfair to punish or restrict the other people who aren't abusing the system because of those same people, which is basically what you'd have to do in the end.

EDIT: but i do think that this is one of those things that really should be discussed and debated more, instead of exactly how scary looking a firearm should be before it gets banned, or whether or not da homos should be allowed to get married.

If Chris had been born in Mexico, he would be out working and working hard, because he would have no other choice. He is not incapable of working, he might only be any good for simple jobs, but he could work. The :tugboat: enables him to be a lazy parasite.

Come to Utah. There are plenty of Mexicans living of da :tugboat: here.

I'm not talking about being Mexican, I'm talking about being in Mexico, where they don't have any :tugboat: for people like Chris.

Or when you can't find work, and you see Chris going higgedly piggedly on games and cheap ass shoes, and $100 laptops that don't work, while you get $40 from your dad once a week because he feels bad for you.

But he'd get his birthday off at least.

Thing is though, even if Borb did that and immediately put the rest of the money in to an account for house upkeep, Chris would of simply stolen their credit card so he could buy whatever vidya or cardgame that caught his eye.

And, given Barb's stock, I wouldn't put it past her to pillage it to fund her ever-growing hoard.

LOL Chris gets a new "i" product every day, I have been using the same 4 gig ipod since 2006 or 2005. The consumerism that's pumped into children at an early age, is still strong in Chris, "New toy, (or idevice) I NEED it!!" That extends to his food choices too, I love how he will shill for McDonald's in Facebook messages or in mumble chats.
Apple also happens to push the latest and greatest iShit, after a while, they cease updates for that specific piece of hardware, and force everyone to update if they want to have the latest software. I'm still surprised that Apple hasn't accepted my idea of a proprietary porn viewer called the iMasturbate, the iCame, or the iFap.

I can imagine Chris in the future having the next generation of the iPhone which is veeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy lonnnnnnngggggggggggg.

I gotta wonder about the PS quad.

Chris must surely be planning to get one, whether or not such a plan is not feasible. But the thing is due out in November, and I can't imagine Chris hasn't put significant thought into a life upgrade upgrade.
