In this video Chris talks about how his site got hacked so he bought a new domain and that one got hacked too. I'm sure it was a matter of him having a weak and predictable password, not actually being hacked.

I wasn't around and following Chris back then, but does anyone know what actually happened? The CWCiki says that he gave out the password to sonichu.net, but nothing about sonichu.info. Instead of attempting to restore his sites he just buys a new domain? Did someone have access to his email and actually do the transfer process to switch ownership of the domains?

Here are some previous Chirs-owned domains that are available now:
sonichu.info
sonichuandrosechu.com
CwcVille.com

Chris should add the return of cwcville.com to his list of ridiculous Megan-demands.

As I recall the details were a little bit hazy on what actually went behind the scenes. Chris's reaction to all of these hack attacks, however, was really to just move the site to another domain.

I didn't have the presence of mind of figuring out what hosting service he used at the time, but I suspect he kept using Tripod for his stuff - he used to have the site on free Tripod plan and I suppose he went for the paid version later on, which appear to be $5/month plus domain fees. (In the last volume of comic, he blames Tripod for all of his security woes, so I don't think he changed the host.) No idea what service he registered his domains through, however.

I also have hazy memories of seeing Chris's mail password floating around in ED around the time of the leak, and that password was pretty short. The guy probably has no security consciousness to speak of.

That makes a lot of sense. It probably would have to be an all-in-one place where he just upgrades his account and picks a domain name. I couldn't imagine him having a host and buying a domain from another company and changing the nameservers and all of that.

Because it's too much work and Chris is allergic to effort.

I've asked this before when we were talking about the new forum's domain name and didn't get an answer: why are CWC-related domain names so expensive?

Look how fuckin greasy his hair is! LOL

I know webcams are very forgiving, but he would be doing himself a favor to ditch his current look and go back to the classic look. He has semi-modern glasses now so that'll help.

Chris probably picked a password like "sonichu" or "cwc82" or maybe even "password". Chris is definitely the type to sacrifice security for easy memorization, as evidenced here.

When the domains expired, the registrar probably calculated that based on the amount of hits it would get. Since Chris is of "barely-above-average" popularity on the internet, cwcville.com probably got a few hundred hits and they surmised it was in demand enough to charge that much.

My favorite Chris is, "Big glasses striped shirt awkward" Chris. I wish he wore those big glasses in every video.

Do they not reappraise? Or do they just stick with whatever it was worth when it was abandoned?

I think somewhere on the CWCKI it says one of his passwords was "nutmeg".

That makes perfect sense. He writes like he's just been snorting it.

(He later switched the order of the letters and made it "gemtun." Perhaps this pointless anagramming led him to "Megtune" -- with an e borrowed from nowhere -- and the genesis of her recently-revoked Sailor Senshi Powers.)
