I'd be more willing to trust that article if the author could sort out some of the there/their confusion.

Maybe "mainstreaming" isn't the proper term. Considering all of the grief that his parents put schools through to keep him in a normal environment to maintain the theory he could beat his autism, I think we should call his education, "mainscreaming".

I don't know how he got away with reading Goosebumps in class. I was caught with a novel once or twice, and I got in trouble. If a teacher let that go simply because Chris was "special", then they really weren't doing their job.

Oh, the background check excuse is Chris' excuse and I really don't buy it. Most minimum wage, fast-food type places wouldn't do a background check on someone.

Mostly, I think Chris could get a job if he cleaned himself up and practiced for a week on how to not look/act like a tard. The problem is that he couldn't do this on his own and he doesn't have anyone who'd help him.

He'd doodle Sonichu and Rosechu all over his application, though, and they'd be like, um, no. (I mean, he drew them on his resume.)

But see, this is why I don't get why people think Bob is such a great parent. He's not.

(Pizza deliverary? I could see Chris "sampling" from the orders)

Chris isn't static. He's not necessarily the same Chris he always was. And, eh, Bob had a lot more time with Chris than we did. He had a better perspective than cwcki people do about Chris' abilities. I think the basic attempts he put into getting Chris a sustainable place in society were pretty OK. I mean, drafting is a pretty straightforward occupation a tard on Chris' level could pull off.

If Chris had some reason to get a job (and a really good reason, like he was desperate), he certainly could get a job with a bit of help.

If Chris had recieved the proper special education he so desperately needed, there is a chance (a slim one, considering his parents would undermine the special education system, but a chance still) that he wouldn't be so fucked up. For starters: I'm not sure about anywhere else, but the special ed. program at the high school I went to allowed those in it to stay in high school until they were 21, if they so wished (I stayed an extra year, since I didn't feel ready for college for another year). Also, they special ed. teachers would be better equipped to deal with Chris's unique issues. Mainstream teachers, try as they might, would likely not get through to a tard that would rather sleep through class and ready children's horror novels than learn.
