I thought it would be interesting to have a place to discuss various religious films and works.

Anything good or profoundly spiritual like the excellent Jesus of Nazareth, to something made in poor taste like Kirk Cameron's saving Christmas. Or anything you see in a work that tickles your fancy.

Could point out profoundly inspiring moments from film

or you could get a lot of mileage savaging bad Christian movies like the Cinema snob occasionally does.

I ended up watching Old Fashioned on a lark to see if it's that bad.

I legitimately couldn't finish it. It really hurt to watch.
Some of the movies he saw on midnight screenings I kinda want an actual catholic to watch to see if they get a different impression (like the two movies on the bomber who survived a Japanese internment camp or Winters tale) , but no this is absolutely terrible lol.

It's been a number of years since I last watched it, but I have somewhat of a soft spot for Fireproof. It's the one about where a firefighter's selfish behavior and porn addiction is destroying his marriage and he's being a dick about it, but the God of second chances keeps throwing things at him through people in his life and close calls on the job that helps him open his eyes to his destructive behavior. It's nothing special, honestly, but it's a tight, simple script that doesn't diverge from its themes, nor does it feel all that preachy when it comes to seeking guidance for one's weaknesses.

Compared to the other movies released by the same company and same director(s), I consider it competent. War Room is bad for a lot of things, but no one mentions how it's a lazy retread/recolor (literally, let's be honest) of Fireproof's script and fails miserably.

EDIT: Oh lol I just realized the main lead is Kirk Cameron. He looks so different in my head. :story:

And of course nobody has mentioned the most well known Christian media of all...

NOT the Simpsons. It is regularily blasphemous especially towards Christians.

There was a show I sometimes watched on Sunday mornings, that was about an owl(?) that flew around in a big ark in the sky and would tell Bible stories and such. I don't remember its name, but I do remember it being not too bad for a show about Christianity etc. That and there wasn't usually much on a Sunday for kids on TV for me (I only had the basic TV channels as a kid, none of the fancy paid ones).

I see that nobodies mentioned Gather's Pond yet. A lot of people shit on it but its honestly pretty charming despite the crude animation.
