Christian theology thread for Christians - Deus homo factus est naturam erante, mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante

His discussion with Gavin Ortlund and his debate with Matthew Everhard might be good starting places if you want to understand him more, basically his whole movement is focused on the idea that it's never okay to voluntarily leave a church no matter how degenerate/leftist/heretical ect ect it gets cause leaving would be "cowardice" it's better to be in the gorgeous church with the atheist progressive woman pastor so you can gamble on eventually controlling that pretty building rather than taking shelter somewhere primitive like holding church in a field in the woods with people who hold to the Apostolic Faith.
lol what? What sort of insane logic is this?
So if we were in the Fourth century and his church decided to embrace Arianism (something based off the cold takes you mentioned earlier I assume he must disagree with), he’d advocate staying with that church rather than leaving their heretical asses? Or does he draw the line somewhere?

If that really reflects his logic, that’s very stupid. And contradicts the example of pretty much all the church fathers I can think of.

Redeemed Zoomer frequently twists and butchers the Arian controversy because he thinks his position is the Athanasian one, thinking that the correct position is to keep attending the heretical church until they either excommunicate you or attempt to kill you. Prominent youtube pastors like Gavin Ortlund and Matthew Everhard have tried to point out to him that Athanasius actually fled the churches because of their heresies to instead worship correctly in the wilderness or in whatever houses people could spare. A modern equivalent some people have used is saying It's better to worship in sewers with the Orthodox than in beautiful heretical churches.

According to Redeemed Zoomer, you're still a Christian if you choose to flee the Arian Drag Queen Story Hour church to raise your kids in a more sane conservative church, but you're a coward and should feel guilty about it.

What a strange take. Why does he put so much stock in not being a “coward” anyways?

Ignoring all the presuppositions he’s loaded into the word, his logic sounds like it can lead to very bad, explicitly unchristian views really quickly. Just off the top of my head I can think of how you can use this to argue that martyrs are actually bad and should feel ashamed.

He'll get heated sometimes and make some angry posts on Twitter or Discord about Non-Denoms, Baptists or Eastern Orthodoxy but then apologize quickly and delete some stuff. The big example being him claiming about a year ago he was done with Protestant apologetics because he felt he wasn't getting enough help and feeling like he was the only one trying to push back against non-Protestant Christians.
Again, he should finish his seminary if he hasn't already, get a few years under his belt being a pastor, then jump into the autism that is Apologetics, especially if he's trying to debate Catholics and Orthodox, who both have 2000+ years of works and apologetics by smarter men and better debaters than him.

That's something a sane person who doesn't fantasize about being St. Athanasius would do. A lot of people sadly have their dopamine receptors blown out by internet polemics rather than spending more time in prayer and scripture and reading the church fathers. I've been trying to spread the idea that people should wait until they're no longer a Catechumen before they decide to get into debates because it can show a person is serious, experienced and less likely to fall for something simple a more knowledgeable person would not have fallen for, and they're less likely to make their particular tradition look bad.

He needs a spiritual father to obey.

Unironically i think he falls into the jewish folly of focusing too much on the physical rather than the unseen. Genuinely i think a lot of what motivates this is for conservative-minded people in congregations to maintain "ownership" of the most aesthetically pleasing churches. He seems to feel a very strong resnonance with the aesthetic of churches, both seen in his choice of video topics which often mention it, and the fact that he has a christian minecraft server where people just build churches all day.

I get it to a point, nobody wants to see the Notre Dame turned into a liberarion theology pit, but at the end of the day a building is just a building, and if the religious core is rotten, it doesnt matter how beautiful the exterior is.

And my ability to actually do God's will needs even more improvement. I am His most spineless coward nigger.

For formation in discernment

Holy Spirit, you, light of our understanding, gentle breath that guides our decisions,
grant me the grace to listen attentively to your voice and to discern the hidden paths of my heart,
so that I may grasp what truly matters to you, and free my heart from its troubles.

I ask you for the grace to learn how to pause, to become aware of the way I act,
of the feelings that dwell within me, and of the thoughts that overwhelm me which, so often, I fail to notice.

I long for my choices to lead me to the joy of the Gospel.
Even if I must go through moments of doubt and fatigue, even if I must struggle, reflect, search, and begin again…
Because, at the end of the journey, your consolation is the fruit of the right decision.

Grant me a deeper understanding of what moves me, so that I may reject what draws me away from Christ, and love him and serve him more fully.

Amen.

Probably some coping mechanisms mixed with hopium. He thinks that the liberal/leftist element is weaker and you could outlast them. Not realising that when both the leadership and a plurality of the church has gone a certain direction you will not move it back.
