{quote} But my point wasn't that this isn't happening. My point is, that these success stories, unless they are really mild, received assistance from their peers. And they NEED that help for their entire lives. They didn't just get their on their own by "being willing to seek help" and by listening to advice on the internet.[/quote]

My apologies. I see your point now and you are correct. It is truly unreasonable to expect Chris to " make something of himself". He requires help and if he doesn't get it will probably devolve further

Chris didn't even realize, by himself, didn't realize that the clearly offensive and futile attraction sign made him look retarded. He had to be told by his MOTHER, and that only stopped him from doing it for awhile.

um, that's a common thing with autism is that you're completely unaware of how you come across to others because of the autistic lack of social awareness. I mean, that's part of what defines autism. And yet not every autistic is jobless.

I'm not using this as an argument that Chris is capable of holding down a job, only that your reasoning here is a piss-poor argument.

did you not read the part where I said that I don't think Chris is capable of holding down a job

You take CatParty's posts seriously? :D

Anyway, let's put it another way.

Let's say, that Chris DOES actually accept help and makes "the first step". Now what?

How does he seek help? From where? With what resources? Even if we ignore everything else, we know for a fact that Chris is very unintelligent, driver's license or not.

If he starts reading this forum for advice, how does he sort the good advice from the really dumb ween advice? How will he keep a schedule for the things he needs to do? How does he make sure he actually goes through with that schedule, without his mind wandering off or getting lazy? Remember, most regular people have problems with consistency when it comes to diets and fitness. He would have even more problems with that.

Really, Chris "accepting help", etc., would be no more effective in getting him anywhere, than realizing he "needed a boyfriend-free girl to turn in to a sweetheart from the ground-up" was at getting him laid.

The only even vaguely positive constructive help he is getting comes from Ms. Shoemaker and the Wesley congregation. Perhaps if reverend Ed made him a cause, the parishinors would rally to his aid? ( a la raising funds for Ethiopia/ child soldiers/ operation christmas child etc?

Chris will never receive the help he needs because of not only the nations indifference to the importance of mental health but the lack of personal contacts willing to help him. As been said before Chris has to be "trained" to do things right. Doing things the way he has been doing them for years has been ingrained into his mind as acceptable. Yelling at him on the internet isn't going to fix him. And unless someone has the actual intent of helping him in a way that's effective, ie not on the bloody internet,

This is another point that needs responding to.

Government social service and health dept. agencies, the court system, psychiatriac evaluators, and people from his church have all been involved in trying to get Chris to accept help. So it hasn't just been Internet white knights.

I don't think you understand what I mean when I say "help". He needs things to be beaten in to him, figuratively. He needs an authority figure in his life to condition him. A Child doesn't understand or comprehend certain things, so we keep punishing/rewarding them until they get it, regardless of how much they don't approve. That's what needs to happen to Chris. The only one who could really do that right now, as far as I know is Barb. And, well, she is Barb.

kudos, i forgot about temporary move from bugland and the shielding from the prison saga. maybe there is hope in his church or something that he wont endure the wilderness saga, but it has to be active, engaging help, that he and barb might not like for a while. my point was more centered around that internet white knights aren't going to fix chris, neither is internet wake up calls. the idea being that cases like chris require IRL people to do IRL things and establish an IRL relationship with an extremely irritating and ungrateful person.

example
Problem:chris' house is filled to the brim with flesh eating bugs
solution:move him out and bugbomb it(the church did that right?), bugs temporarily vanquished
alternate solution:yell at chris on the internet about how he's a slob:bugs live :alog:
alternate solution 2:tell chris he has to maximize his inner potential and clean the house in order to be the true hero that he truly is called by godbear to be: bugs live. :anna:

That's pretty much what Chris is saying. Well, trying to say. How a native speaker can mangle his own language to the point of rendering it incomprehensible is beyond me.

Seriously, UNLESS, I actually, FINALLY, find IN PERSON and fall in love with a pretty or beautiful, and Truly Compassionate and Caring, woman who will Have To make the first move and everything, because after ALL of the emotional damage I have experienced, it will take a Honest and Truthful LOT to win me over.

Said person wouldn't operate in the way Chris wants them to. That person also has to prepare him so that he can function as independently as he is capable of. Chris wants a slave. Chris needs some kind of involved figure that wants to see him not embark on the wilderness saga.

Said person will more than likely be a corrections officer

This quote makes me laugh/cry. After everything he has been through in the last 5 years Chrissy STILL expects a hot, rich, super-model to see him in McDonald's and fall instantly in love with him and whisk him away to a life of pleasure and leisure.

If there ever was a true /face-palm moment; this is it.

These resources are available to Chris but he refuses to take advantage of them.

Sometimes, Chris is so stupid :stupid: , I just want to bitch-slap him :alog: . This is one of those times.
