IN Citi employee sues after being fired for allegedly saying it was a ‘nightmare’ to work with Indians

A Citi staffer who was fired for allegedly saying it was a “nightmare” to work with Indians is suing the bank, claiming she faced discrimination herself over her menopausal symptoms and long COVID conditions.

Ann Watson, former senior vice president in Citi’s Finance Solutions Group, slapped the bank with a lawsuit filed in London after she was fired in 2023.

During an internal virtual job interview, Watson allegedly told an interviewer of Indian heritage: “The project failed because I was working with a team of Indians. No offense to you, Kapil, but you know what Indians are like to work with. It’s a nightmare.”
In the suit, Watson alleged she was unfairly dismissed and discriminated against for her sex, age and disabilities — including menopause and long COVID-19 symptoms like brain fog, memory loss and uncharacteristic behavior.

She is seeking compensation for unfair dismissal.

Citi denied the allegations. The bank declined to comment.

The bank claimed that after Watson made the alleged racist comment, she was placed in an online waiting room.

When the interview resumed, she allegedly said: “Now it’s your chance, Kapil, to get me back.”

Watson claimed she was “shocked” when, nearly a month after the interview, Citi’s human resources team told her she was facing an accusation of making a racist comment.

“I was horrified to hear these as I would not blame a culture or country for any kind of failure or direct any such comments toward an interview panel that I was applying for a role with,” she said in a witness statement for a London hearing on the case.

Watson was apologetic, though she claimed she could not remember the alleged derogatory comment.

“I did not deny making the comments as I simply could not recall as a result of my long COVID-19 and menopausal symptoms,” she said.
Rather, she alleged she was let go because of her medical conditions at 55 years old. The “too harsh” firing did not take into account her 12 years of service at the bank, Watson argued.

Citi said its investigation into Watson was fair and impartial, and stood by the decision to fire her.

Her alleged symptoms could not have “made or contributed to the claimant making racist comments,” lawyers for the bank said.

Yes, working with a bunch of jeet "experts" is a nightmare, but she was a fucking imbecile to tell one to his face. The only play I can see here is that she planned to get fired and file a lawsuit, which would also be retarded but not quite as retarded as being oblivious to the fact that calling out your coworker's race in an interview is going to get your ass axed.

Came in thinking it some some low-level programmer, came out with the understanding that it was an incompetent woman VP who is trying to blame her failure to perform on everything from jeets to menopause to long covid.
The “too harsh” firing did not take into account her 12 years of service at the bank, Watson argued.
You old bitch, it's not 2003 anymore. Nobody gives one iota of shit-eating fuck how many years of stockholm syndrome you had.

I can't wrap my head around being a VP and making a mistake like this. I was more diplomatic at 18 - aside from the racist angle, it just looks bad to shit talk your team in such a simplistic way. "My team were all dopes" is cope from a shitty manager, "we tried our best but changing priorities at the bank meant we were constantly presented with an ill-defined and moving target" is the kind of thing that sounds like a situation a credible manager could have failed in, and you can bullshit your way around via half-explaining. At the very least you could cite cultural miscommunications if you really wanted to say the problem was Indians but also had a teaspoon of sense.

With all of that in mind - she might have actually been fired for a disability. It's not credible that a VP with over a decade working in a bank didn't know how to not say the worst possible thing in that circumstance. If it's not some sort of medical issue, it's drugs.

Also - nice job getting your full name and reason for getting fired plastered across the media, instead of having a sympathetic/ignorant coworker put a good word in for you at RBS for your next VP gig. This woman might be an undiscovered lolcow.

You either live on your knees, or you call a pajeet a street shitting nigger retard in a blaze of glory. Choose your fate.
I dunno. At my last job I complained rather pointedly about the quality of sample parts we were getting from Indian suppliers and strongly stated they didn't know how to forge steel.

The one Indian guy in the department remarks, 'You know, I'm right here.'

To which I responded, 'Dude, shut the fuck up, you're from Texas.'
(Which he was -- he was like third gen or so, definitely not a newcomer.)

Nothing ever came of it either. I wonder if he was just bantering. He'd seen the reports, after all.

Staggeringly based, make her CEO (of racism).

We can call it even for all the times Indians have said the dumbest, most heinous shit about women/their wives in front of entire offices like its the most natural thing in the world (well, natural for rapejeets anyway)
