The Israeli riot control at Al aqsa/the narrative that it was being attacked on Ramadan was gold. The one thing every Palestinian cares about is Al aqsa and the first Palestinian party to defend it would get a massive boost and effectively become the new Palestinian leaders. Hamas took advantage of that opportunity and now they are trying to position themselves as the leaders of the Palestinians.
