Oh wow sperg time! Russians know how to fuck shit up. I played orchestral music a lot and in symphonic bands so I am quite familiar. I do miss playing but practicing that much every day is a pain in the asssssss.

Once again the Slavs win on being based.

Dvorák Slavonic dances are fun to play. I used to do the duets with a friend or mine.

I also have a soft spot for Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D major. It was written for his lover (he was gay). So always listen to it like a story of forbidden true love. I've wanted to transpose this music before.

I'm more 50/50 with Russian classical. But yes, Slavs are based.

Anyone else have one piece where they have to relive a solo they fucked up once every time they hear it?

You do have an A+ trumpet player personality tho
I'm not sure whether I should take that as an insult or a compliment.

(Seriously though I was second trumpet at best and usually third. They definitely kept me away from anything where I could seriously fuck something up.)

I'm having a blast listening to Appalachian Spring performed by The Knights. It is good to hear a small, alert orchestra of 30-odd members on this work. They brings out transparency and clarity, like the morning sun brings light and beauty to a wide prairie. It isn't that often you can hear the double-bass in this work so clearly. Small might the orchestra be, they are no slouch when it comes to the climax either.

The first time I became really concious of this song was in an american commercial, for car insurence or something, taking place in some idealized 1950s suburb.
They didn't expect you to understand the lyrics:
"Hells revenge is cooking in my heart,
death and desperation,
death and desperation burn around me!
Unless, by your hand, Sarastro feels the pangs of death,
you shall be my daughter nevermore" etc along those lines
