What are some of your favorite things to wear for me its either Wrestling T-Shirts and Blue Jeans or Suits and Ties for important shit, I don't really like wearing sweat pants unless im just in my Home.

Nothing special:
  • New era cap with the visor bent upward
  • Oversized flanel shirt with only top the button inserted
  • White wife beater
  • Dickies black & baggy 3/4 work trousers
  • Knee high white socks
  • Black Vans Sk8-Hi
  • Hi-Point with the serial numbers filed off and a killo of cocaine
  • Insatiable thirst for a Pepsi

For several years now, I have been refining the Indochic-look. Basically 1950s French Indochina/Algeria surplus wear. Practical, adaptable for hot/humid/cold/dry weather conditions alike, and very cheap to acquire and replace.

Personally I like wearing some vintage leather jackets, japanese stuff like visvim, john varvatos, and loro piana stuff. People undervalue dressing in an appealing and cohesive way; dressing up in a way that is neat and stylish, doesn't just do a lot for you, but also can elevate the environment you're in. If kiwis need any fashionable clothing, check out some of the 2nd hand clothing apps out there, as most designer prices go down significantly on the 2nd hand.

I have been looking at suits and I feel retarded because I cannot tell them apart. How the fuck are you supposed to pick one?

Have you tried going to one of those stores where they fit you for a suit? Those places are pretty good if you tell them why you're looking for a suit they'll help you find something then you can just buy something similar from a place that won't charge you your first born son for one.

I am planning my attire for later on when I am thin. I am apparently expected to buy a navy blue suit with nothing special and then a white shirt. The YouTubers say it needs to be double vented and the shoulders need to fit but everything else is less important.

If it's just a suit to have to have something nice then the the shoulders are probably the most important part. If you're going with Navy blue you want to pair it with brown shoes and a brown belt. I know that much at least from my wife hammering that shit into me. Don't pair black belts and shoes with blue jackets.

It depends on what you're dressing for. If you're looking for something simple and versatile, then follow the Youtubers' advice & go for a single-breasted classic fit in navy blue or grey -- that'll do you just fine in 90% of situations where you need a suit. For formal occasions you might want a three-piece or double-breasted number, but these will read as excessively stuffy in a casual or business setting.

I don't think most people have any idea.

I've mostly only ever worn suits for weddings, and they've always done a thing where everyone goes to the same place with like a code the shop looks up that tells everyone exactly what color/style of suit and tie they need to match (plus they give you a group discount on top of it).

Usually that's how you wind up picking one in my experience, you go a shop where they're used to fitting straight men who know almost nothing about suits.

Blue with black seems to be less common but imo it's not some fashion faux pas. You can look it up on google and see lots of professional photos of dudes in blue with black shoes/belt, depending on how dark the blue is I sort of prefer it.

It looks like it is a bit of a minefield.

Also for when you buy a leather jacket, be aware of moths :)

It depends on the shade. Navy blue and black clash. Lighter blues are ok with black.

As someone who wears many suits and comes from a family of tailors, go to a good suit shop, where you get measured and everything. Explain to the guy it's your first time and they will guide you through and explain what everything is supposed to be. What is your budget because I can recommend based off that. But my suggestion is go pricey. A good suit can easily be seen in the material and how it lays on you. Don't go picking styles because they may not look good on you. Let the suit salesman fit and suit you. Then of course either use the in house tailor or find your own. When it comes to color just get the darkest blue you can for one suit (this will be your main suit for formal events, if you have to go to court to represent the farms, talk to the media, do interviews etc) and then get a grey suit (this will be your "secondary" suit for when your blue one is at the dry cleaner or you want to change it up, its good to have two suits). DO NOT GET BLACK. You are not at a funeral and a black suit makes you look like a waiter. Do not get a vest you look like a waiter. A 3 piece suit is fine but they are pricy and you will look very British (same with double-breasted). Your shoes and belt should be black (belt and shoes must match) and for the love of God do not wear sneakers with your suit because you will look like a black guy going to court. And if you wear brown shoes and a blue suit you look stupid.

For suit material, you want the following: 100% wool, fully lined (half is fine, but full is better). If you really can't find 100% wool try to get to as close as possible, but 100% is ideal. Try to get it made in America, or at least the wool is made in Italy or USA or Britain, basically, a place that has a tradition of suit making. Places I suggest: Joseph A Bank (but get the made-in-USA stuff), Brooks Brothers (anything is good; the presidents historically got their suits there, and their suiting quality has, for the most part maintained), or your local suit shop if it's well known. Regardless, you need to have a person to help you. Good rule of thumb if they don't start out by measuring you, walk out and find a different store, no one can know your measurements by look alone. If you are in an area with (older or more established) Jews see where they get their suits. Jews traditionally were in the garment industry so their patrons have high(er) standards. It is your first suit, go basic don't go to some high-end chequ place (gucci or armani) or someplace cheap (H&M, Banana republic, etc).

You don't need custom made suits, you need "off the rack" suits tailored by a professional. Dress shirts you can kinda cheap out on (aka, you don't need to get them at a suiting place. If they are too expensive, you can get them at your local Macy's or outlet store; just make sure the shirts aren't too thin) and are the proper size for you. Belts, dress socks and shoes you can get at an outlet store too, just make sure they aren't fake leather and are one color (no reversible) and for ties. Make sure they are 100% silk. Again outlet stores can be a place to look. Unlike woman, men will "accessorize" with small things such as ties, cufflinks, pocket squares (although there's some matching that people do which I don't know well enough to give advice on) and tie bars. As for tie colors, I suggest red and blue and one "fun" tie but that's a personal choice on you find a tie that you vibe with and get it.

Depending on where you live you might need a jacket or (formal) leather gloves for the rain/the cold (think trench coat) I suggest only then do you go to a place like H&M or Uniqlo or Macy's or the outlet store. Just make sure its the right size and the material isn't complete garbage. The thought process here is that the jacket is simply protecting the suit and when you get out the rain/bad weather you will just take the jacket off and your nice suit will be very dry. I bought my formal outer jackets from H&M, Zara (when I was in Europe) and a brand called "London Fog". I will say one thing, if you get a cheap outerjacket (like a peacoat or a trench coat) you get what you pay for (thinner material, fake leather, doesn't last long etc) but for the 3 or 10 times you wear it is fine. It's like an umbrella you can spend a lot of money but a cheap umbrella that looks "fancy" will do the same job a $400 umbrella will. Do remember to shine your shoes and good luck! My DMs are open if you need any more advice.

fashion is fucking bullshit, stop following trends and gain a little bit of humanity.

It's so hard to find Jeans that aren't baggy or cut short, it's all made for the scum of the earth.

Style wise, @Maori Kiwifruit Growers covered it, but brand wise I can suggest a few.

To reference my last post, I would highly suggest checking out apps like therealreal or poshmark. A ton of these brands can be found extrodinarly cheap, and are ones that'll you last forever.

The primary classic brands I would suggest would be loro piana (the brand itself, and other brands using their fanbrics/liners), brunello cucinelli, brioni, and ralph lauren purple label. Those selections will be the most luxorious and comfortable. The latter brands (still very nice) are isaia, ermangildo zegna (mainly 15milmil15), mainline giorgio armani, eleventy, canali, and cobra s.c. Despite all of these, my personal favorite out of all is john varvatos. His suits are fine quality, but they're cool and a lot more interesting than most (especially his leather pieces and jackets).

the problem with Poshmark and those apps are that Josh doesn't know what looks good on him. Poshmark and similar apps are for used clothes. Those brands are ok but remember he's starting from zero so classic is better.
