and now they attack entire organizations and making them crazy.

Most recent, and what spurned this thread, is CNN losing their shit over a wrestling meme, then threatening to dox a rando if he didn't apologize

Their whole staff is going insane on air, look at Sally Kohn losing her shit over a meme

Jesus, I miss Hellblazer.
How much of this is a long-term consequence of the slow demise of cable tv (old and busted) to internet writing/streaming (new hotness)? Is this just what we always should've expected no matter who won the presidency because CNN and all the other once-big cable news services feel pressure on their bank accounts and it makes them lash out like cornered animals?
It's a combination of a lot of things, but that's at the core of it, I think. There's a certain radicalism that pervades all of culture these days, and it makes us dehumanize people whose beliefs we now view as dangerous and threatening, instead of just, like, different from ours.
But the big push is always gonna be money. Sensationalism sells, nobody buys cable anymore, millenials don't give a shit about any form of media that can't be streamed to a tablet, and thus the old guard of Fox News vs CNN is on its way out. They both know they're a joke with an aging audience, and to me this feels like a desperate cling to relevance.
It's a publicity stunt that backfired hard, nothing more.

I rate this "feels" because I find it really sad how these people brand themselves the righteous guardians of an ethical mandate, but they feel no remorse about selling lies and stoking divide and hatred across the world to line their pockets and maintain their egos.

Ethics in journalism, indeed.

It's a sort of curious ethical disconnect. The people on the other side have beliefs they view as harmful. Therefore, the people are harmful, thus they are enemies and must be destroyed. We can't just disagree about stuff anymore, everything on every issue has to be this great battle for the "Real America".
It's been going on for a long time, but we've finally hit the point where we've lost all objectivity, and the media reflects it, because that's what we as a society respond to now.
CNN is just digging in their heels and trying to pile in to the same mudslinging shitshow all of cable is in now that they know they're on their way out.
Honestly, the biggest issue here will be the fallout. They've picked a fight with an entity that doesn't sleep, has nothing to lose, has zero sense of proportional response, and will remember this forever.
Picking a fight with internet trolls is like trying to punch the tip of a blade. Even if you succeed, you've lost more than you gained just by attempting it.

Maybe declaring war on the internet was the best thing that could have happened. Maybe that's the quickest way for them to fall on their face and cut off the flow of bullshit.

Which ones? And did they have any career of note beforehand or were they all unimportant figures with nothing of note.
Anita
Zoe
Nathan Grayson
Patrick Klepek
Leigh Alexander
some walking simulator devs got butthurt
Tim Schafer has since shut his dumb trap
Kotaku is down for the count
Polygon is a joke
not interested enough to get a full list

I don't think anybody has ever had a substantial career in video game journalism, but these were some fairly well known people, all of which are quiet now or have virtually left.

Since when?
Did you forget the times when there were articles about how "being a straight white male is easy mode"?
We don't see those anymore.

I thought this was gonna be interesting and instead all I got was 6 minutes of Natasha Leggero and Moshe Kasher being complete fucking retards about trump why the fuck would you even post that

'People didn't care about the women's march because it had woman in the title!!!'

are you shitting me?

And having it backfire badly, will CNN realize what they've been doing is a mistake? Or will they keep on doing this until they have it hammered into their collective heads that they fucked themselves over?

Because I'm more than willing to see how it happens if they go in either direction.

Well, they're kinda right.

But not for the reasons they think.....

I also love how they are talking about the various mental illnesses and use that as a sidebar to talk about how hurt their feels are when people shit on their comedy

And then after going over and over about how clearly Trump is suffering from mental illness they complain about how people are in their echo chambers and don't let facts affect their opinion

The War on CNN is working, lads!

CNN Staff losing their shit about being doxed

Several anchors and reporters at CNN have had their home addresses published and have received threats of rape and other violence in the wake of a story published by Andrew Kaczynski, who heads up the network’s investigative K-FILE team. Anti-network trolls are encouraging viewers to wrongly accuse CNN staffers of pedophilia and child pornography. There is also “tons of anti-Semitism.”

“Frustration” is the predominant feeling inside CNN, The Mirror has learned.

Kaczynski published a story on the 4th of July in which he appeared to threaten to publish the name of a Reddit user who parades around anonymously as “HanAssholeSolo.” HanAssholeSolo claimed to be the originator of the wrestling video tweeted by President Trump in which POTUS flattened a wrestler whose face was a CNN logo.

Trump has long accused CNN of being “fake news” and “very fake news.”

The network seems to be fulfilling Trump’s need for a public enemy. In other words, CNN fills the void for “Low energy Jeb,” “Little Marco,” “Lyin’ Ted” and “Crooked Hillary.” In recent months, CNN has become a virtual punching bag for Trump supporters. The reason doesn’t often matter. Be it White House correspondent Jim Acosta bitching about press access or “New Day” host Chris Cuomo deleting a tweet, they’re drunk on hate and their perception that the network is not giving Trump a fair shake. They delight in clobbering the network as much and as often as possible.

To be sure, Kaczynski’s home address has been posted online as have those of various CNN anchors and reporters.

“Frustrated by our critics’ double standards,” a CNN insider said on condition of anonymity. “Frustrated that CNN staffers’ private information is being published in ‘retaliation’ — when the network made the decision to not out the Reddit user. Frustrated by the speed in which misinformation, lies and hate spreads. Frustrated that POTUS’s son has no accountability.”

Some CNN employees are taking steps to protect themselves, but details are hush-hush as revealing them could jeopardize employing safety measures in the first place.

CNN App down to 1 Star on iTunes

CNN plummeted to a one-star rating on Apple’s app store just days after the network published an article that appeared to threaten to publicly identify an anonymous Reddit user who made a video depicting President Trump body-slamming the CNN logo.

Out of 3,215 total ratings awarded to the CNN on the app store, 3,063 of them were one-star ratings. Angry users flooded the app with negative ratings on Wednesday and Thursday, with many of them outraged over CNN’s coverage of the Reddit user.

“CNN is a tabloid masquerading as a legitimate news organization. Its ‘reports’ are littered with opinion, and it spends too much time trying to convince its readers/viewers what they should think instead of simply keeping them informed about what is happening in the world (and letting them make up their own minds),” one of the thousands of one-star reviews stated. “Thus far I have had no trouble accessing the biased filth I have come to expect from this once-proud organization. It’s a bit like having a waiter on-hand to feed me all the pig excrement I can eat: the service is nice, but the product is horrible.”

“If I could give negative stars, I would. What used to be a respectable, if not left leaning news source has become as far left as Breitbart is far right,” one recent reviewer wrote. “It’s become a satire of itself and of journalism as a profession. I’m glad the world can finally see CNN for the circus show it’s become.”

“I downloaded this app as a favor for a friend who was searching for a reliable news outlet. The style of the app was appealing and the ease of use was nice,” one reviewer started off, before describing being turned off by CNN’s bias: “There was a systematic disregard for objective viewpoints. The authors write using accusatory language that leads the uninformed reader to specific and planned out conclusions.” The reviewer, “Big E the attorney,” concluded: “Based on everything I can see it appears that the accusations of CNN being fake news are correct.” The app store states: “9 out of 9 customers found this review helpful.”

Many negative reviews focused on CNN’s coverage of the Reddit user.

“They had no right to do what they did over something as silly as a meme,” one reviewer wrote. “You have gone too far this time, to attack a mere meme farmer for a simple joke? Pathetic,” another stated.

Another reviewer noted the network’s “campaign to gag a person on Reddit through threats of DOXING for posting a meme,” adding: “They are a shadow of their former glory and are now activists not journalists. ”

Some reviewers gave CNN better ratings but seemingly still did so as a way to troll the network.

“Bruh I got a bone in my boneless pizza and CNN won’t even report it,” wrote one July 5 reviewer, who gave CNN a rather neutral three stars.

Another reviewer gave CNN five stars but pretended he was being blackmailed by the network to do so. “They are the best and I am making this review completely of my own free will. Please give them lots of money and more great reviews. Once again I am not under any blackmailing threat and am doing this on my own free will,” the reviewer wrote, concluding: “Please don’t hurt me CNN.”

The negative reviews were still flooding in on Thursday afternoon.

“They are against innocent civilians and promote doxing of anyone they don’t agree with,” one of the most recent reviewers stated. “On top of that they push false narratives just to make a buck. Crap.” Another wrote: “Let the meme war continue, fake shitheads.”

The :autism: train hasn't even pulled out of the station yet.

Waiting on Len Shaner, so hurry the fuck up dude. No Tis'm Train is complete without him.

And though I don't support false accusations of crimes and harassment against CNN reporters, this whole fiasco shows what happens when your staff believes journalistic ethics are antiquated and irrelevant.

Live by the narrative, die by the narrative.

Who is here to rescue you when you complain about being the target of trolls who don't use facts?

For a decade or more you've treated everyone not on the left as hateful mongoloids who can't be expected to be civil, and they embrace that and NOW you call "foul"?

Cried Wolf too many darn times....

It's amazing how much shit people can avoid when they just shut the fuck up and do their job, in this case, just reporting the news. Not spouting off opinion pieces disguised as news, not having roundtable coffee discussions with like-minded people making six-figure incomes to have said opinions, and most decidedly not trying to out-troll trolls.

This is what happens when you try to tone-police, you inept, soft-bellied asswipes. I'd offer you some painkillers but at this point I'm pretty sure you'd OD on them.

lol Trump used his time in a presser in Poland to shit on them some more

and the media lost their shit about it

Many in the media recoiled at Trump’s criticism of CNN, as well as Trump’s mild skepticism of American intelligence conclusions regarding Russia’s role in the election-related hacking, although the president did add, “I think it was Russia.”

“A trashing of the American press corps and Intel community in Eastern Europe of all places,” wrote MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, apparently disgusted with Trump’s answers. “Could Putin have asked for anything more?”

Nigga for 8 years whenever Obama visited a foreign country he shat on American values, on American history and the American people itself and the press never said a word

Now that a President is making fun of you that's when you lose your shit about Presidents speaking abroad?

No, you just lorded his dox over his head and made it clear that you would release them unless he stopped making fun of you. What a sleazy fucking company.

I'd also like to point out that a few spastics on Twitter do not have quite the same viewership or coverage that a multinational news corporation does.

The network seems to be fulfilling Trump’s need for a public enemy.
They are all so goddamned focused on this being about Trump. I despise Trump but I want CNN to fall because I hate them more for using Trump as a lazy bogeyman excuse to overrun the world with their pretentious pc bullshit.
