Cobra Kai

finished the season while the site was down. i was surprised that Miguel's episodes were so short but glad it didn't over stay its welcome. seeing Mike Barnes was cool but it felt like he got cucked in the last episode being knocked out for the entire fight. Danny finally getting some pay back by kicking Silvers ass was satisfying and makes me wonder, how they gonna carry on the next season now that both villain's are taken care off and Cobra kai pretty much dead in the water.

not a bad season. i honestly dont feel like any season has been outright bad. sure, the romance sub-plot is teenage cringe but what are you gonna do? its a show for teens/young adults.

this is apparently because the actor got injured, like, really badly, during Karate Kid 3 and they just didn't want to put him in any real combat situations for any length of time just in case.

That final battle in Silver's house has to be the most 80s thing I've ever seen. The fact that they dropped all pretense and were ready to kill each other was really fun.

They'd never do it, but making some joke about California's depolicing would be a good way to lampshade why hardly anyone gets arrested in this show.
It also explains why so many kids would rather sign up for karate instead of calling the cops when things go bad. I think only Mrs. Larusso tries to do that. Everyone else either runs, lets the bullies walk over them, or fights back.

It's over bros.

At least they know when to end it. I didn't think it'd go past two seasons.
I thought it would've ended 2-3 seasons ago.

But the reason it survived so long is cause Cobra Kai only ever got started because William Zabka & Ralph Macchio wanted to make it as a passion project. It never had a possibility of existing or succeeding without them. It's pretty much the only YouTube Red original that survived because it was so popular. Once Netflix acquired it every season has been massively popular there. Especially considering how much smaller the budget is than their other major series like Stranger Things that relies on CGI so much

I’m sure they realised trying to milk it forever would wind up with the story becoming shit. I trust Zabka & Macchio to end it now because they’ve done well so far. It makes sense too cause when you think about it, the entire series is an endless shonen tournament arc about "teenagers" in their mid 20's to early 30's playing karate with men in their early 60's pretending to be in their mid 40's. It's the Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy of Netflix, & one of the reasons it survived the Netflix cancellation hell is exclusively because of nostalgia.

honestly, six seasons is pretty good. if they had gotten 7 I would've thought they were pushing it.

six seems right.

I agree, it's good that they're stopping while they're ahead. Tho I will say that I wish that the last season will have a small but well done Hilary Swank cameo even. Ralph Macchio confirmed Daniel & her met at Mr Miyagi’s funeral so they definitely know each other already.

Maybe she shows up for one episode to train Sam & Tory together to finish their beef once and for all. Kind of like how Ali showed up for that one episode & it didn’t feel too short. It just helped finish off old & new plot lines.

Also, Sony is making a new reboot movie about Karate Kid. Cobra Kai has minute amount of pozzing in it, which is not irritating in the usual modern Hollywoke way due to it being somewhat natural. Soyny is gonna fuck this up.

The only issue there could actually be found in the show is that there's some cringey teen drama moments starting from season 2-3 onwards. Get past that, & it's pretty kino.
The show is the best American live action shonen anime ever made. Every scene with Johnny Lawrence, Chozen and Kreese are pure gold.

So this thread hasn't been updated in a while. I've started to rewatch the show again before the first part of the final season drops on July 18th.

This series has made me so, so happy over the years. It has definitely been the most fun and enjoyable piece of media I've watched over the past 4 years or so. I'm actually not sad to see it end-- if anything, I'm happy and excited to see how it all ends, and I feel relieved that the ending has been planned out since the start of the show. That tells me the ending probably isn't going to suck!

One major thing this show has done successfully, in my opinion, is getting me to care about the young cast of characters. If, for any reason, there's another Cobra Kai show 20 years from now with these kids all grown up ... Fuck it, I'd watch it!

Wait, what? I thought the last season of Cobra Kai was the last season. I was impressed that it managed to more or less stay good for that long because that's very rare. Whilst Terry Silver was magnificent in it, I felt the show had pushed its luck as far as it could go. There's only so many times you can have a sudden reversal of allegiance. Unless they manage to find some good external threat to the characters I'm worried for what it will be like. The show was great but I'm not certain I can take more Montagues and Capulets for another season.

On the other hand, the creators made it way better than it had any right to be and impressed me. So, I'll keep my hopes alive.

(Also, that "trailer" was 90% clips from previous seasons.)

The creators have given me literally no reason to doubt what the final season will bring so far, so I'm optimistic. If the last season sucks, I'll be the first one to say it, but those are not my expectations.

The final season is going to be about the World Tournament, and it appears the main baddies are going to be Kreese and Kim Da-Eun. And I have a prediction that we'll be seeing Terry Silver in a more minor role this time (I've had this theory about him having a terminal illness this entire time, which would explain a lot), but we'll see.

The Cobra Kai social media pages recently released a pic of the new Miyagi-Do symbol, which showcases an Eagle flying towards the bonzai tree (amazing!). So it looks like we'll finally see an entire season of Daniel and Johnny working fully together, which I'm really excited about.

I agree. They've given me no reason to doubt them. It's just an extraordinary ask to have seven seasons of a show all be good. I'll keep my fingers crossed and it'll be interesting to see it broaden out into a world championship. I hope they really roll with that. All the main cast have sorted out their relationship issues imo and the season will need a strong external challenge for them to put the well-earned unity from previous seasons to good use.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed. It's also good to see that Miguel is returning given the actor is now a big movie star after the success of the Blue Beetle movie.

Cobra Kai has been amazing with every progressing season. Every time a new season has dropped, I've told myself, "I can't wait to watch this, but I don't know if I want to see another season after this because they HAVE to run out of ideas eventually," and then the season ends on the most exciting note possible, leaving the door WIDE open for more story.

For me, literally every season finale of Cobra Kai has been kino so far, and they always leave me in a place where I can't wait to watch more.

lol.

Check out Burn Notice sometime, it went 7 seasons and tbh they just kept getting better as they went on.

The key to a truly good show imo, is to know where you want to take it and know when it's time to bow out. The Sopranos did it too although the final season did drag on a bit. Good shows have an idea of where they want to go and this helps them to tell the story in a way that has impact. Cobra Kai doing this honestly could have been driven by the writer strike and passage of time more than artistic vision, but the result seems to be the same, they are closing out on a high note when it makes sense to do so.
