Something I like about Marys is really involved ones with a lot of different vegetables in them, served in a pitcher in the morning. It's a great way to start a Saturday. Or recover from one. I like some variety, like celery, carrots, cherry tomatoes and baby onions on skewers, etc.

I like the base to be a mix of Spicy V8 (or just V8 with spices) and Clamato, but no other animal products whatsoever. That putting bacon in a Mary shit can not end soon enough. Then vodka or any neutral grain spirit really. I also don't mind rum. I'll then usually add some Tabasco, or freshly ground pepper, then the usual stuff like celery salt, lime, worcestershire (although soy or even fish sauce would do fine and I have actually done Vegemite too), maybe horseradish but I usually forego that if I am going the Tabasco route, then served in chilled glasses dipped in Tabasco and rimmed with coarse salt.

Or when I don't need to make a presentation of it to someone, half Spicy V8, half vodka, splash of Tabasco, done. Serve in red Solo cup.
That mix sounds really good. I stopped getting premade stuff because the sodium was so high. recipe i follow uses a cucumber with seeds removed.

My favorite cocktail is a White Salamander

2 (or 3) parts Irish Cream
1 part Rum (I use spiced rum, usually Sailor Jerry or Kraken)
Crushed Ice
(Optional) 1 part milk, preferably 2% or whole
(Optional) Walnut Bitters, very optional if you are using a spiced rum

Mix over crushed ice, stir periodically

Very smooth and drinkable, sweet enough but not too sweet

I was recently introduced to the White Russian and I was instantly addicted. I could drink these things all day and get fat on them. I'm not even into drinking that much, this is just liquid candy. And they're so easy to make at home too... Share my pain.

Combine
50 ml Vodka
30 ml Kahlua or another coffee liquor
Shake or stir with ice cubes and pour into a glass
Pour 20-30 ml of heavy cream on top

Have you ever had a Bloody Bull? I know you said no other animal products, but. The basic idea made me want to hurl but then somebody stealthed me one—they subbed the Clamato out—and after that I was a fan. There was a joint we used to go to that served their Bloody Mary’s with little bits of steak in them which sounds sickening but can’t lie, shit was tasty.

Adding Vegemite sounds good.

Bloody Marys are the best cocktails out there, especially if you’re a person who leans more towards savory as opposed to sweet.

Try a Tom & Jerry sometime. It's the ultimate winter-time drink. Just use a good brandy or it may get that unpleasant medicinal aftertaste that the cheap brandies impart. You'll need a stand mixer, or hand mixer for whipping the egg whites, or a strong arm and much patience.

Related to the energy drink thread, a few favs of mine that I discovered organically:

-Monster juice mango loco with a good coconut rum to taste. I like Koloa as it's coconutty and 40% abv. I'd call the result extremely complimentary of both flavors. Dark rum works too but not really complimentary, just tasty.

-Same brand, Pacific Punch (the one that tastes like Hawaiian punch but not as artificial) with a good dark rum, again I like the Koloa but as long as it imparts a distinct dark rum toffee/caramel-ish flavor when diluted it should work fine, the result is very complimentary, but not quite as good as the above combo. Coconut rum is also good but doesn't elevate the result.

-Mostly Red Bull yellow (the tropical one) with a bit of Creme de Cassis, just enough to get a visible layer on the bottom if poured carefully (mix before drinking though), and then a neutral spirit. I used vodka in the past, probably use a tiny dash of everclear 190 these days to get the same oopmh as the vodka, doesn't take much.

-Any of the sugar free watermelon flavors that are heavy on citric acid and taste like Jolly Ranchers (currently Monster makes em as a pure zero, Rockstar used to make them and stopped a few years ago) with neutral spirits to taste, again I use a drib of Everclear 190 these days but Sobiesky or Kirkland was my go to previously. This combo hides the spirits very fucking well especially compared to other sugar free things to mix booze with.

Honestly I'd like all of these more if the flavors weren't energy drinks, but c'est la vie, their use probably gets you drunker if closer to a heart attack.

Try mixing jim beam red stag with some jaeger, it makes a delicious cough syrup that will make you twice as sick as before.

So which is a great cocktail to recommend?

None, because if you are into cocktails, you are into cock.
Not into chickens really. I've encountered one and we've been terrible rivals since, thus destroying buildings and properties in the process.

If you really want to kick your own ass try the Blind Russian.

1 to 1 to 1 Vodka:Kahlua:Baileys

Nothing else, that'd dilute the alcohol so make sure to chill all of it beforehand. 😁

I have always liked sidecars. Another underrated cocktail is the "lunchbox" which is half beer, half orange juice, and 1/6th Amaretto. It sounds like an odd combination, but imagine the flavor of grapefruit juice with a pleasant aftertaste of almond. The hops in the beer and the orange juice balance each other out quite nicely into a grapefruit flavor.
