I kind of wanna see if any other kiwi users is into numismatics like I am; I got into numismatics thanks to the history and value surrounding the coin(s). Since I am big on Roman history, I usually collect coins from a certain time period of Romes existance or whenever. I haven't seen a thread that talks about numismatics or expresses the community of numismatics.

You can also talk about fakes going around on the internet (e.g. Ebay), because that certainly helps exposing frauds.

Eh, I collected the old Gustav V coins because it was fun seeing them show up in circulation.
Here's the guy in 1909.

I've been tempted to get into it as a side part of my interest in PM but there's a reason it's called the "hobby of kings." Even just owning the coins to begin with is expensive, but the actual high-grade coins collectors like will cost an arm and a leg. Roman coins are even worse in terms of price.

If I ever did I'd probably just get a collection of 19th/20th century silver coins because I'm a poorfag, or intersperse some pre-1933 gold coins into my collection. A few sets of silver eagles would be nice too I suppose and relatively cheap (although the premiums on some years are insane).

For PMs I majority have is silver bars. Buy Copper tho, as it might be needed for the world is heading rn.

Kalergi-imported sand niggers do not deserve a single ounce of Prussian Gold, so I do my best to keep it out of their hands. I like Numismatics for the historical value and ability to counter-inflation.

those pennies majority zinc, bullion sites how copper bars for sale.
The premium is utterly insane on those copper bars. Like it's way, way, way above spot price for copper. It's a premium you normally see on very high grade examples of common silver coins.

It's literally only good if you want both copper AND a paperweight. Just get pre-1982 pennies. You can find lying around literally everywhere, they aren't that much more rare than post-1982 pennies. Hell, wait around those machines at stores that collect coins and pay someone for their pennies if you have to.

Except for wheat cents, those are hard to find because they're so old. They've got a great aesthetic though and I've saved a lot I picked up off the ground over the years.

I used to have a much larger collection, but decided that there was no way I was going to be able to get a bu set for every coin I was interested in (I had this delusion I would be able to do it with Morgan dollars). So I decided to go typeset, but then what happens right after I make that decision dansco pulls their typeset album lets it go out of print, and no one makes a decent new type set book. So I have all these coins that are still in their blister packages in my drawer as opposed to in a nice album.

I'm a poorfag so I mostly just get silver coins that aren't too expensive and coins from other countries. I want to get at least one gold coin at some point but lolpoor.

i have a jar of weird coins i got from handling cash deposits but they're just sitting in a jar in my desk. every old coin and foreign coin i kept, but they've been in circulation so i know they aren't worth jack shit. i just think they're cool because they're little tokens of history, currency that doesn't exist anymore or old designs.

my favorite is this shitty coin with no markings on it, the sides of the coin aren't even brass coated. no clue why someone would make toy metal coins of archangels but it's based

Only buying typical investment coins so far (gold rubles, gold swiss/french/belgian francs, gold austro-hungarian ducats)
I have some American coins, They are PM but no clue if they are investment coins due to them being graded from coin companies.

Probably the best coin I have, and it is a 1852 1$ American Coin. It is also gold as well, the only gold coin I have right now. I heard that these coins are expensive as hell (selling around 1k+), but my autistic mind could be wrong.

I got quite a few old Japanese coins in my collection from across a few eras, mainly Edo and Meiji Era. Also got a few soviet kopeks. Probably not worth much or anything, I just think they're neat.

lemme see the japanese shekels

Very nice, the picture is fine. How much are Japanese coins nowadays?
I got a bunch of the older Mon coins (left) in a lot of 5 for about $20, the Meiji Era coins on the right went from anywhere from $5 to $25 each. Really depends on the denomination, the Sen coins tend to be on the cheaper side, but if you're looking for yen coins from the Meiji Era, those can run you a couple hundred. All I have is Sen and the older Mon coins, so I have the cheaper ones. Maybe some day I'll get the more expensive Yen coins, but not right now.

Ye, I have some money for expensive coins (aka graded coins) but I am not going to go willy nilly on everything. A lot of fakes are out there, so I keep myself from buying forged coins and making sure the coins aren't forged.
