Colbert Report Grieving Thread - Life Before Trump Derangement Syndrome

He was always just a thinly-veiled propagandist like everyone else associated with the Daily Show, but he used to have better writers and cared about putting on a performance as opposed to his cbs gig where he doesn't even put any effort into anything other than being as shrill as possible.

Just the usual. Any kind of confrontation had her flummoxed. He tried to play the "ACKSHUALLY" kind of gamer where he asked her to name three games and she couldn't, so he quickly moved on to the next part.

Are you seriously telling me she couldn't do something as basic as name 3 games? This is the woman that got to shape the direction for games in the western world? Amazing.

Remind me, who are the privileged members of society again? Can you imagine a male in any scenario having such an impact on something while knowing so little about it?

It's amazing times we live in, it'd be hilarious if it wasn't so awful, to quote a video game "Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of."

I ended up watching Colberts talk show tonight after yeaaaaars of not watching it due to it being basically an anti-trump jokeathon with some interviews and music in-between (and I don't even like trump as a politician tbh, but kinda admire that he stuck to his guns).

Definitely hasn't really changed, though the jokes are less frequent... Isn't critical of the dems at all - moreso makes light-hearted jokes about them, and still (more subtly now) shits on trump / republics, after X many months.

It amazes me that some people can't see through this, and seeing that it's basically an agenda being pushed on them in terms of entertainment, and take it as truth lol.

All I can think about whenever I see his name is him jumping up and down on a bed in Russia chanting “peepee tapes” and just feeling massive embarrassment for everyone involved.

I doubt anyone doesn't see through it. I would not be surprised if the ratings for shows like his are greatly inflated by a bias in the rating systems to the large networks. Then the people randomly tuning in, leaving TV's on or just watching for guests. Cable boxes left on, even though the TV is off.

You'd have to be a completely tribal, low information Dem supporter, Orange man bad kind of person to watch it. Knowing and not caring it's so dumb, but just because it's going, "otherside / Trump bad." Getting off on that hatred. It's so cringe.

I watched his show regularly until the Trump years. I'm not American. I think both sides of US politics are bad. However the extreme bad faith, dumb, lying and low quality of the material is what made it unwatchable. How is it satire or comedy when it's not even based on reality? Instead just pushing fake narratives and propoganda.

I get the Colbert Report was biased, but it still tried to be based on reality. So the satire worked and was regularly great.

Now he puts on aviator glasses and pretends Biden is some bad ass cow boy. The same way he mocked a fictional Trump. He praises a fictional Biden. Which everyone must see the disconnect. I can get people might be in an echo chamber and believe fictional Trump was real Trump. I don't know how they could be in one of them, but think fictional bad ass Biden was anything but retarded fiction.

It reminds me of how SNL created a fictional Hillary and people then chose to pretend that was what the real Hillary was like. As they didn't want to see how terrible the real one was. I guess the fictional Trump, is because they don't want to see Trump maybe wasn't all bad.

I see clips of Jon Stewart here and there. He seems to still have principles and in good faith. Although the other night I flicked him on and had to turn it off as it was him and some comedians having a narcissistic circle jerk about themselves being comedians and the leader of Ukraine being a former one. All about praising themselves. It was cringe.
