Time to feel like an old man.
Back when I was still in college in 2003... I had this cultural anthropology class taught by a professor that was straight outta Africa ( I forget the country). I thought to myself "sweet I'll get some real world perspective instead of textbook parroted bullshit!". But then I noticed all the text books for the classwere written by the professor, all the course materials revolved around her life, and every lecture was "let me tell you all about me and the things I have done while being me". I walked out of that class after a week and got my tuition back ( sans some fees) a put in a formal complaint. I didn't sign up to learn about one woman's life experience in the middle of nowhere and pay her to have a big personal cirlcejerk, I came to learn about the world.
On the flip side that same year I had the best psych professor ever. He said something that has stuck with me ever since "From the womb to the grave, one thing that remains constant is that we are always learning. and that is one thing that will never change". dude was amazing and totally earned his tenure.
