because money is the main measurement of a book‘s success. Look at Order of the Stick. The art is total shit, but it’s at the top of the crowdfunding heap because of that 1.2 million dollars it made. Meanwhile, books with actual good art and story can’t even make funding. So tell me, why should these other metrics even matter if customers won’t open up their wallets for them?
Probably because I know you're only making this argument as a new attempt to rationalize why you repeatedly use money alone as a metric. Mainly so you can try to ignore the shrinking pool of customers for each successive project, who instead tend to just buy multiple copies.

This particular model was why it only took a week of lockdown to melt the industry btw.

Cyberfrog Bllodhoney had an average contribution of $63 per person. Rekt Planet has almost double that at $117 per paypig.

Rekt Planet has 300 more contributions than bloodhoney. This is counting the main campaign only and not all the additional retard campaigns.

Ethan has basically managed to squeeze twice as much money from the same number of people.

His backer number has only increased by a small percentage but the money earned going up by 100% should be a worrying sign that his support is collapsing.

If there was REAL demand outside of a small number of whales that will buy any and everything he puts out that backer contribution number would be a lot closer to $25 instead of $120.
Let's look at "Icarus and the Sun" a comic that earned more than half a million dollars on indiegogo. The average contribution was $36 dollars. This shows there is real demand and support for the book across a wide audience.

Let's think of this another way. Who is more "popular" one guy who gets 500k from ONE person. Or one guy who gets one dollar from 500k people? Both make the same amount of money, but the guy getting $1 from a lot of people has a much healthier support group.

Ethan made good money and should be congratulated on that. BUT his support is a lot weaker and prone to collapse because he relies so heavily on a small number of people making big contributions.
If 1000 people refund Icarus and the sun he only loses 36k dollars. If 1000 people refund Ethan he loses 120k-200k.
It doesn't take a big brain to see how Ethan milks his paypigs and will continue to squeeze them until in the near future this business model is no longer viable. There isn't royalties in perpetuity for Cyberfrog. I just hope he's investing some of this money because when you look at the numbers its clear this is a speculation bubble built on retards who are ignorant about the comics market.

Try to compete against EVS [Who has thousands of extra copies] vs your handful of copies. It's clear he's rigged the game in his favor.

Look how many Salamandroid foil variants he still has. He's capped his own market value at $100. You're never making that $200 honeycomb box money back.

Since I enjoy playing devil’s advocate, I will continue to do so.

I think it’s perfectly fair to dunk on Ethan when he’s sperging on here and starts beating his chest like a gorilla when people question the quality of his art or the way he’s treated his associates over the past 3 years.

However, as I’ve said in the past, EVS has placed the price of every new book he puts out (the only exception seemingly being the Unfrogettable Tales books) at 25$ and the people paying him have more or less accepted that. Things are always worth what people are willing to pay for them, regardless of whether or not they can flip it for the same price (a car loses it’s value as soon as you drive it off the lot and so on). That in mind, the honeycomb box, which seems to be a point of contention for some people here, is worth exactly what EVS is charging for it (if not more so) since it has 8 books in it. It’s no different than Ubisoft cranking out a 150$ “Collector’s Edition” every year that just includes a game and some inane bullshit (do they even do that anymore?).

If people are willing to buy it, who really cares? Laugh at EVS when he shows up on a livestream screaming “YOU COME IN HERE WITH BALLS?”, but don’t A-log him for printing money.

Bingo.

The Salamandroid cover was "exclusive" and "limited" until it wasn't and now it sells for what Ethan asks on Ebay because it was neither. The smooth brains who bought that lie are the same smooth brains that will be suckered by the same tactic with Ethan's fancy reprint of Bloodhoney in the $200 box.

This is why you are a paypig Trunk.

This is what is colloquially called a "self own".

Thank you for acknowledging that the financial success of a mega crowdfund has far less to do with quality of product and everything to do with hype.

The fact that you are one of the people buying snake oil at the medicine show is the most entertaining part.

The big question is "Will Ethan give a damn about your brown nosing if and when you get whatever unremarkable project you're working on to the campaign stage so you can get funded on borrowed hype instead of merit."

Good luck.

Don't cry for me fellow kiwis I'm already dead inside. I can't exactly remember what got me nuked from Liam's chat but it was after Micah was insinuating that FAN was a pedo I said something along the lines of:

"lol Micah calling FAN a creep after his good friend JewWario from Channel Awesome was caught red-handed grooming kids and offed himself. My fucking sides 🤣 "

Which triggered this response:

Despite setting the stream to private it look's like some anonymous individual uploaded it to bitchute.

Do any of you know who this handsome individual, Smug Geezer could be?

Okay, I love how this Micah talks about slapping people. This is the real world dipshit. Always talking tough.

Is this your new final form?

In comics news this week.

DC is hard at work destroying themselves.

Greg Capullo continues to waste a year of his life drawing Scott Snyders shit.

Snyder has Dr. Manhattan taken over by the batman who keks I shit you not.

KSD continues to write Aquaman, DC's biggest movie property and Mariko whatshername is writing Wonder Woman.

Oh, Blake, black lives matter, Northcut and SGM put out Catwoman.

Snowflame appears, its very much a 90s esque paint by the numbers story

Marvel continues to be worthless, with Jason Aaron leading the charge!

A number of indy books came out.

In YT

Richard continues his reviews. He reviewed Catwoman and loved it.

Dan Shahin interviewed Noah Van Sciver.

-They talk about political issues, Dan identifies as a libertarian? I'm guessing liberals that don't like taxes? Mr. Dongs is going in the chat, he seems to like Bagge? A superchat asks Noah to say hi to CG and asks if he draws CF. Oooo, Dan says he doesn't have to say anything, but he can answer the question.. Noah does not say hi to CG but says he did draw CF as a child, its in One Dirty Tree. Dan doesn't understand what based means, assuming that our good Dong is saying biased. Dan remains a schmuck.

Lots of snore streams from @FROG, I'm sure shills in here love them.

Frog remains an exceedingly boring cow. I can't even bring myself to finish his second stream in days with Richard because its him fake laughing while they verbally circle jerk each other.

I saw this the other night and it's an amusing example of how you can never be woke enough:

Sadly, Kelly Suck doesn't get cancelled, but Vita Ayala gets the attention and validation she was looking for. Post-chinavirus, she should be gone from the industry.

And could the rando guy caught in the middle be more obsequious? If you're 53 & you're still learning the difference between men & women, you're already fucked, Stan.

Stan's biggest mistake was interacting with KSD. Anyone who apologizes for not knowing the mental illnesses of comic book people is a cuck's cuck.
This made up make believe gender bender bullshit blows my mind. It's like Chris saying he's a magical CPU goddess that fucks pokemon in his very own version of toontown.

If Stan were a real man and wanted to answer the question of "who's not a MAN in comic books" the correct answer is Matt Fraction.

Rekt Planet wouldn't have done anywhere near the numbers of Blood Honey if he hadn't changed the game with the Honeycomb box innovation. Redefining the crowdfunding game, even if by complete accident, is how he's going to be remembered from all this. The interesting part for me is if he can keep up that innovation. And before he's shit on for accidental innovation we should be reminded that most disruptive innovation is accidental.

And for crying out loud stop sniffing your own farts by calling this "art". Comics aren't the Mona Lisa for fucks sake. It's mindless entertainment. There's nothing wrong with that - or even making a fortune off producing it - but lets at least call it what it is.

I actually do see them as capable of being art. But I see Big Macs as art. Not everything is or should be the Mona Lisa. Sometimes I want a Jeph Loeb comics that's horrible and funny.

Her time will come.

Welp, I just love how he doesn't list actually talented women or classic comics every fan knows. Odds are he's either a twenty something who hasn't even read comics made before 2012 or he just doesn't read comics.

Is it rational though? He cant tell me the expenses before shipping? Even if a certain shipping rate went up, he can tell me what he has left before shipping.
He will have to refund or resend the orders that got lost/got damaged. Shipping rates can change. If he wants to be fair, he will wait a couple months after shipping to know the exact amount he owes you.
It would be much better business to cut you an advance right now and pay the rest when the campaign is deemed as fufilled.

OOTS was awesome though, despite the stick figure art. You are wrong.

I never really mentioned perspective once....
I wasn't talking about any one user in particular, just in general. I was feeling a little underwhelmed since I noticed the thread had moved 3 pages and assumed something juicy had happened while I was away. Instead it was just the content I described previously, alogging and perspectives.
Flying Sparks Volume 4 will be launching in august! Once this is out we'lll have 15 issues of Flying Sparks by itself.

I'm working on a strategy 2-player board game design to go along with the comic now too with a top-notch creator. Stay tuned!
See what you've done @FROG, your shitpost shilling has now encouraged Jon to do the same, who's next to join and promote themselves Mike?
I feel that containment was broken when Preston was discovered to be a cuck and it was allowed to go on for 20+ pages here and wasn't forced over to that thread.
The containment thread has been dead because @FROG has been avoiding it like the plague and posting here, so naturally the a logging moved with him. If we could all come to some agreement for him to shill and us shit on him there, then hopefully this thread will return to normal.

Also I'm not begrudging anyone for shitting on Ethan, I've done it quite extensively myself, but I keep it to the containment thread.
Smug geezer might be his long lost non-canon brother, Wisenheimer Cooler.
Sounds German.
Threats of violence from the sleeveless wunderkind?

You must be terrified Smug. Why is it that all the over weight dullards in CG think making threats about what they might do if they met someone IRL is somehow intimidating?
I'm literally shaking, I'm shook. The thought of Micah Curtis swinging his ham hock, sleeveless arms to slap me in the face has me terrified. Since Micah threatened physical violence against me, perhaps I should take a note out of his and Liam Gray's book by attempting to alert the FBI?

Or I could just not be a bitch.
Place your bets fellas. Awful mailers, ziplock bags, poor print quality, or something else?

I'm calling printing errors and bad packaging.
I'll see those bets and raise you shit tier art and terrible lettering.

What is up with these faces? And what's with the "kill whitey" vibe of this comic? Does Micah the paid Russian propaganda poster support BLM or something? I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a comic written by the self confessed "fifth best writer in Comicsgate." :story:

However, as I’ve said in the past, EVS has placed the price of every new book he puts out (the only exception seemingly being the Unfrogettable Tales books) at 25$ and the people paying him have more or less accepted that.
$25 is the generally accepted minimum for Comicsgate crowdfund projects and for a good reason; CG has not found a way of shipping product to individual backers in a way that makes selling $5-10 comics cost effective. Since periodicals are the most accepted format of comic books, this is somewhat of a problem. Let's take a look a this in practice by contrasting calculated tier results vs stated crowdfund total to see where the money is going on shipping.

1594968662217.png

Paying 10 dollars to ship something you paid $40 or $50 for is a much easier pill to swallow than paying that same $10 to have a $10 comic shipped to you. A lot of trial and error has resulted in the general consensus that products worth at least $25 are what get the customer interested. Comicsgate's problem is a lack of creators able to reliably and regularly make, market and deliver something that is convincingly worth a $25 price tag.

Let's contrast this against another campaign, Vestige #2.

1594969641421.png

Although WC proclaims to have many dedicated funders at the highest level, 56% of backers backed Vestige at the minimum level ($25) available, who also forming the plurality (23%) of Vestige's funding. In comparison, the top fifth of Vestige #2's backers contributed over half of Vestige's total funds for perks like original art pages, being featured in the comic and limited editions. Telling is the difference between equally priced tiers "Two Copies of Vestige 2" (8 backers) and "Vestige 1 & 2" (59 backers) combined with the majority of backers at the minimum level all allude to legitimate interest in Vestige itself as opposed to speculators or collectors of the Warcampaign brand.

Now let's compare this to something that is indisputably based on a personality cult: Another Case of the Littlest Umbrella

1594976225558.png

In contrast to Vestige, the ACotLU crowdfund was primarily funded (66%) by the top third of his backers who put up a minimum of $100. Like other successful campaigns, TUG was sure to put $25 as the minimum contribution. One curiosity is that, at the $25 dollar tier, purchases were overwhelmingly for the LUG drawn cover, but sales for either cover were neck and neck on any other tier.

Finally, we have Cyberfrog: Rekt Planet

spergstuff - cyberfrog.png

@Analog Devolved was right when he pointed out the massive $500,000 Executive Honeycomb tier component, of CF:RP's million - but it works out to this one tier forming nearly two thirds of the campaign's revenue while also consisting of a plurality of the backers. The entry-level $25 tier is still available, but more people have bought the full honeycomb box set than anything else.

I skimmed the past few pages and couldn't see anything about SGM's Plotholes, has the ending of the campaign been discussed?

It finished on a quarter million, which is pretty good! If it wasn't for Twitter BS I bet he'd be on at least £300k. The decision to quit twitter, whether it came from him or DC saying "the retards wanna cancel you but you're a piñata which gives us money and good comics, maybe deleted?", was a good one.

But, fools & their money....

Bonus: Donal admits he can't draw girls' faces (there's a lot more wrong with this one than just the faces, Donal!), & that he put out bad work (just because?)

I'm not sure if the "thought he would've gotten Anna" guy is trolling or stupid. There's no accounting for taste, I guess.
