It's something of a turning point, as BRSRKR's success (raising over 400K in the first 24 hours) is a hard proof that crowdfunded comics really are going to become "the way of the future" for professional publishers and creators (as opposed to a stepping stone into mainstream publishing), as per Zack's prognosis all along. Not so much because of Keanu, but because of Boom Studios' embrace of the crowdfund model. Ya Boi is elated that not only "other" publishers are proving him right, but are following the path of Expendables: Go To Hell by partnering with a celebrity in their crowdfund. Zack cares more about being proven right than what's necessarily best for his pocketbook, but how this plays out for other people in Comicsgate more attached to business than theory will be interesting.

It's a development that signals the beginning of the end of the gold rush in crowdfunded comics where anyone who plays their cards right and puts in the minimum work can make it big quick; the money in crowdfunding is attracting actual professionals, first Dynamite and now Boom Studios and will end with amateur crowdfunders having to directly compete with organized professionals for backer dollars. Great for the consumer, less so for the creator currently getting bigger rewards for lesser efforts. But if the entrepreneur in question is able to keep up with the increase in pace and competition, the influx of comic project backers is a potential benefit; if not, this is looking like the beginning of the end for those who can't, CG and non-CG alike.

For people like renfamous, Joe Glass and their like, who didn't amount to shit even when the boom was at its peak, and now can't even control who is allowed to crowdfund or move from crowdfund into mainstream salaried work, this is a bitter pill to swallow.

I don't disagree with them entirely. When Kickstarter launched the main idea behind it was that you could get money for the project that would struggle to get funding via traditional channels. So yeah, BRZRKR didn't need to go to Kickstarter to get published so it does betray that original idea of Kickstarter.

Problem is that this has been going on for years now (and is pretty much new normal) so singling out one project sounds stupid. Were they complaining 5-6 years ago when such stuff was already happening and in theory something still could have been done to prevent it? I'd guess that no.
 
The difference is that Boom Studios is an established publisher turning to crowdfunding as opposed to an individual creator, and this is an ironclad refutation of the narrative that crowdfunding was the refuge of people who can't get published (in reality people blackisted by gatekeepers in the comic industry). When the publishers themselves are abandoning the direct market and traditional models to crowdfund, it's no longer a credible argument.

Dynamite was the first, but they did it secretly as part of a weird conspiracy with Comicsgaters like Cecil and Frog as opposed to Boom Studios who are doing the same thing openly, with beloved celebrities like Keanu Reeves.

They're releasing BRZRKR periodicals to LCSs but as Ya Boi says in his video, it's just for optics reasons. They'll sell in the low tens of thousands to retailers like other non-Big Two titles on the direct market while the kickstarter is on course to move TPBs than any single title from Marvel or DC this year. Not even factoring in COVID-related downturns but using 2019 numbers.

It's definitely Keanu pushing it, everyone loves him and it is reaching outside of just the comics sphere. Some guys from 2000ad did a KS last year and it couldn't even hit it's target of 30k although it was located in Ireland so shipping costs probably drove off loads of Americans.

Keanu Reeve's has no social media presence. He avoids social media like the plague, if this is being advertised it's purely by BOOM and kickstarter.

Hostilities between WC and Testefy-HD's people continue to escalate on both sides. WC released this video of former member "Wiggle Wiggle" masturbating a rainbow dildo in a pink ape suit to the encouraging chants of his brethren.

"deltaspergforce" in turn shared this picture of WC's main patron/big fat guy SoCal, which was met as causus belli/"open season" by the WC camp, as allegedly it was only seen in their discord.



Testefy-HD took to Youtube to discuss these development, both to reiterate his own baseless insinuations that Liam is a pedophile (reviewing a portfolio = "has unauthorized contact with minors without parental consent") as well as register his outrage that Ryan "WordNerd" Palmer would bluntly call him and his channel/discord a group of "pedophiles with an unhealthy preoccupation with other people's children", and that he will be escalating this to the highest possible level of reporting WordNerd's tweet.


Finally, Nick Rekeita was confronted by Thomas Roiloup of SWC in the wake of their channel being flagged by Liam. Roiloup and Rekeita have a somewhat storied history, their last interaction being when Preston Poulter ghosted Rekeita's show to appear on SWC instead, leading to this exchange as Rackets efapped their show for legal analysis .

Roiloup requests a statement from Nick in response to the indisputable evidence that #comicsgate engages in flaggotry, one of the few (only) golden rules followed by Youtube grifters like Nick. And that if Rackets didn't have anything to say, either on that or being part of a "doxing ring", a possible expose might be in the works for ole' No Refund Nick's hit-and-miss ass. Rackets says Comicsgate drama is too fast paced for him to follow, that he doesn't know who SWC or Liam Gray are and does not care and, additionally, does not care if bad things happen to his friends or if one friend acts wrongly to another friend. Being Rekeita, this sentiment takes him an hour and a half to work through.

The highlight of the stream is undoubtedly where Rackets posts the DM of Roiloup calling him a coward and that "basketball players" and "greek men" ought to be going full Space Jam on Lady Rackets's vagina for having such a weak husband. It's unsure what the future of SWC's channel is at this point, but the situation is gathering attention quickly. The full set of DMs have been posted in TUG's thread here.

I've always liked Roiloup's esoteric references, but him subtly quoting Freddy Got Fingered out of nowhere had me laughing so god damned hard.
 
Updates:

Frog has returned to creating edited short videos after the other options he floated out there ran the risk of earning Sketch Therapy's ire.
The videos themselves are good, dare I say even a return to form of dabbing on Gail Simone, "bisexual lighting" as well as soyboys threatening Rob Liefeld, but this can also be taken as sign of the rising level of competition that's entering the crowdfunded comic book market, that all of the sudden Frog is taking steps to resume growing his channel.

On the other hand, Frog has also been doing solo livestreams more and more lately as he finds himself having more to say to his audience. It's likely a mixture of both factors.





The Warcampaign/Etsy Boys conflict has escalated from the mundane spamming of flashing gifs at epileptics, mutual accusations of pedophilia and flagging of channels that we've come to expect in Comicsgate conflicts as the real heavy artillery is wheeled out. Testefy-HD has been making the claim that, rather than be a stalker of women gone rogue as asserted by Warcampaign, that orders to go after ThatStarWarsGirl came straight from the top and has been tweeting leaked DMs that actually lend credence to this.

The real Smug Frieza is very particular about the correct spelling of his peculiar art, as seen with this exchange with Grimm, who was then doxed (with one x). I once discussed the etymology of the word "dox" with the man and escaped with a mere light swatting, which I am to understand was just a warning. It is a testament to the depths that this conflict has descended to if The Kiwi who Smugs is being evoked in the name of Comicsgate war.

Finally, Nick Rekeita (pictured) and his show are becoming the unwilling battlefront in the fight between Liam Gray and the shittywebcomics (SWC) brothers. The stakes: the existence of the latter's youtube channel after being flagged into a radioactive crater by Liam. Rekeita neither knows nor cares about any of the parties involved so his role in this is unexpected, but Thomas Roiloup won't let Nick off the hook that easy, demanding he condemn Comicsgate's orange leprechaun or forever be known as an associate of censorious false flaggers like Liam and members of doxxing ring like ThatUmbrellaGuy, calling him a cuck for good measure as well.


Steering blindly into the unbridled esoteric Comicsgate autism that is SWC vs Liam, Rekeita calls on TUG to help him navigate these murky waters. First is to address the charges of the Mailbox Martyr being a doxer. TUG completely shits the bed with his defense and his flagrant refusal to answer any direct questions on the matter and the Grifter King just concludes TUG is guilty as hell. Fortunately for Matty, Rekeita doesn't actually care if he doxed anyone or not.

TUG moves on to a retelling of his own history with 'Anti-CG', the well worn legend spun out over hundreds of livestreams - TUG's Dox: A Tale of Mayors, Midgets and Mailboxes. This goes on for about 30 minutes before an astute reporter starts asking the real questions.

Information on the cartoon porn aficionados and RibbitCoin investigators haranguing Nick Rekeita is inexplicably sparse but TUG, Nick's CG intel man, lets slip that one of the SWC brothers is in fact a legendary kiwi doxer and that they have some nerve accusing other people of doing the same.


















Perhaps it's best not to dig too deep into the mystery that is SWC, lest they unleash their true, hidden power. Rekeita reiterates that while he has no problem with SWC, he does not have a stake in their conflict and is not going to be coerced into resolving their problems for them. The show devolves into chaos and finally "Alien Xenomorph" superchatting how Micah Curtis is out to destroy Rekeita, hates him, and was the right hand of JewWario,, easily forming the best part of the show. And with that the stream ends.

On the note of Keanu Reeves coming onto the scene, it smells like a big pro-invasion is on the rise. Small fries in the crowdfunding scene are most likely going to drop out of the game into irrelevancy pretty quick, so I can see some of them trying to do last minute grifts out of desperation.
