I’m thinking that since John is connected to Preston by his book getting published through Comics Gate TM, Preston would not want any accusations of Lamont being a pedo to hurt his business. Thus, that’s why he sent the C&D letter in my opinion.
But if his book is not being published by Preston, then I am confused as to why Preston would want to stick his nose in this.

This is Preston. Preston is about silencing dissent. Not truth. Certainly not common sense.
I could go into the whole autistic thing about how Lamont's artwork would probably fail the Miller Test, but I think the immediate action here is just for Dean to tell Preston to go fuck himself, and then see if they are dumb enough to file.
If Preston sues, he'll lose. I would be precisely 0% concerned about this. This also gives D&V amazing new exclusive content.
Also, bear in mind that Preston also has said he's going to sue Null for all the mean things we say about Preston on this thread. Preston has his head permanently in his ass.
To hurt/silence Dean and Vikki. He's got (bullshit) motives for that.
There's speculation that Preston/Lamont got Dean's address from Liam.

We're basically gonna see if Preston will fall into the second or third category.

I will attempt to give you an explanation but a lot of the facts still remain unclear.
From my point of view these current events were set in motion mid to late last year with Warcampaign leaving Comicsgate and Preston's Comicsgate™ faction imploding upon itself with various infighting and drama. Warcampaign's leaving was documented heavily at the time, so I won't repeat myself there but what largely flew under the radar was the disintegration of Preston's faction.
It mostly occurred during the time Preston was setting up a Comicsgate™ shared universe wiki and a competition to fund a comic book. At some point for various reasons several conflicts occurred between several of Preston's key allies/associates/friends which ended up with them all walking away. Preston's right hand man Zombienomicon dropped off the face of the earth, Mecha McCheese left for greener pastures with Mike S Miller's DnQ crew, VikkiVerse and DA Talks left to do their own show, the SWC brothers tired of Preston's attempts to cozy up to Warcampaign and abandoned him, The Comic Book Hut accused Preston of being a degenerate drug addict and completely disassociated himself while Jon Del Arroz left after Preston scolded his behavior.
Each of these key allies filled an essential role in Preston's faction and the loss of all of them in the space of several months severely damaged his channel's viewership, especially since the respective fans and audience members of each personality left with them.
With the loss of Warcampaign, Comicsgate has entered a phase of healing. We've seen both Jon Del Arroz and Nasser Rabadi rejoin the movement. VikkiVerse and DA Talks have a warming relationship with both Frog and several other Comicsgate personalities. There was even an attempt to bring Mike S Miller back into the fold, he refused, but still has appeared recently with Jon Malin and Frog on the JACK Show.
TLDR - with Warcampaign gone, the main criticism of Comicsgate has largely been addressed and rectified. Several of the critics of Comicsgate have now returned under a general amnesty agreement and the focus of Comicsgate has shifted from finding enemies within, to returning to fighting the enemy without (the SJW mainstream.)

It may have been cancelled since it technically broke the ToS of Kickstarter by having sexualized content of a character under the age of 18.
Though looking at these variant covers, the main character appears to be far younger than 17, images have been censored and will be spoilered below.
I'm looking forward to a Judge and Jury being presented these images and archives and not thinking the exact same thing that DA Talks and almost everyone else did.

I'm not American, but I would think that most states consider anything under 18 as minor.

Federally, they always have to be over 18. No porn for anything under. Which is why the GFMs/IGGs/KSs of the world won't want to touch it if they aren't. AoC is state dependent. Median is 17. That's not the relevant thing here though.
It's one issue the Prestons and Lamonts of the world can likely try and "correct" by changing the description of the character to 18. That campaign page is gone. If they try to relaunch, I bet you they will try precisely that.
The point is, he ain't gonna change the artwork. These are obviously depictions of underage girls. The artwork is designed to appeal to pedos. It's intentional. Through linguistic faggotry, they'll try to obfuscate things by claiming you only think you're looking at a minor. With a wink given to the true consumer base.
To that end, I'll make a prediction this girl will magically become 18 in every description moving forward. Including all shit they might try to rely on legally.
The other point is they are exceptionally dumb, and you should not discount they will make dumbass arguments.
And yes, Lamont is probably dumber than Shadman. Lord have mercy.

I don't even know who half those people are, LMAO.
What I think we can say there's no way in hell the CG audience is large enough to support that many "creators." I doubt it would be large enough if you doubled it in size, though I guess some of those are just hangers on who come onto livestreams to blather on. And WarCampaign is barely a twitter hashtag at this point, I can't imagine we'll be hearing from them again.

CG has been cooking it's own meals for a long time and SJWs are still good at cancelling people. Anytime a smaller CG'er goes looking for a fight with them, is really just putting up a sign on your platforms that says "Fuck with me, and inhibit my ability to promote my project" Anytime you go into that fight you have to ask yourself "Will I be able to change this person's mind?" if the answer is no (and it almost always is) you're just wasting your time and giving people who will mass report your tweets and dig through your internet presence a target.
While Ya Boi Zack still has a viable platform for Anti-SJW talking points, his channel growth has been stalled for a long time.
There's no saving Captain America, IronMan or Batman. CG fighting with SJWs is not a selling point for anyone who hasn't been doing it since the start like Frog, Ya Boi and Nasser, when he questioned CB Cebulski at C2E2. The Anti-SJW lines are beyond old at this point, and there are enough interesting CG comic books available now that are much more compelling than the old fight that got us here.
Guys like DWD missed the bus thankfully.
