Did Elliot Fernandez give up on his book?
All evidence points toward it.

He has only updated his campaign the last 2 times (April, then just a day or two ago) because I streamed about it.

Now he launched an art book that he says he's gonna use the money from to fund another comic called "Evil Elementary."

I think Elliot's problem all stems from his dumb decision to increase Doomkicker from 48 pages to 100+. It's not manageable and I tried to talk him out of it years ago.

What he needs to do is release 48 pages, be transparent with his backers, and people would most likely give him a second chance.

His art book currently has 30something backers and raised like $2,800. Let's say it ends with $5,000, I don't know how that's gonna fund another book like he says, considering his art book is full color (he'll pay a lot for printing), and all the fees and postage. He will be lucky to break even.

It's interesting to note he launched on Kickstarter.

1. Too ashamed to launch on igg where his backers he ignores (or, like me, the backers he not only ignores but also blocks) are active and will call him out.

2. He is like Smiller, looking for the nonexistent "gigantic Kickstarter audience!!!"

Yeah the sad thing is, I love Elliot, but after him completely forgetting about Doomkicker, I am not inclined to support him. I can't say the story would be amazing since I don't know how he is as a storyteller, but I love his art and that alone I was happy enough to pay for. He definitely screwed himself over trying to overproduce, he should have done a Doomkicker part 1 at 48 pages, then a part 2 for another 48 or something like that.

It also doesn't help that Doug who (from what I can remember, but maybe I am wrong) was part of the project as a writer, and did little to no promotion of it.

Ah well, another one bites the dust.

Doug did no promotion, then complained to me in private that Elliot didn't know how to promote it on his own.

I don't have the exact time stamps but at least twice on this stream, we asked Doug about Elliot, and he gave ridiculous answers and tried to blame it all on Elliot and took no responsibility.

This isn't true. TenNapel was regularly Tweeting the campaign for months. He mentioned it on every livestream until it became clear that Fernandez wasn't going to do shit to promote it himself.

Since Doug scrubbed his Twitter before, I can't say one way or the other how often he tweeted it out. What I do know though is Elliot was upset with Doug not promoting it, and Doug was upset with Elliot for the same.

I think neither of them had an actual plan going in.

So you just made shit up. Typical Nasser.

What Vikki says is true. I was watching Doug's streams when DoomKicker launched and he had a spot open every stream for Elliot (along with a spot for Brian Shearer) to come on but Elliot was sporadic at best.

I'd give Elliot a break considering he had a heart attack a few months after launch but blaming his lack of promotion on Doug when he Elliot never promoted his own book is revisionist history and about as creative as what you usually write.

In news that is sure to please and affirm @Absurdity, Sketch Therapy uploaded this clip of the JACK show (Anna specifically) encouraging Sketch to make a channel about calling out Frog and Anna's channel chat jannies. Is he a monster? Was Anna serious or just humoring him? That's for God to decide, but Sketch argues that if he is a monster then he is a monster of Frog's making, as well as adding this beautiful, rousing speech in the description of the video.
Rule Number 1: Never spend so much money that you think you're owed anything more than a comic book! Sketch's ego fused with CG, and that was a big no-no. Never fall in love! Also, I gotta say how interesting it is that I clearly hear Ro's influence on him in just the way he rants. I'm still amazed at how far WC went into getting an actual comic book published with Ethan's cover art. At a certain point, you have to start defining who you are as an artist and a person in a positive way that doesn't require a constant stream of attacks. WC was validated by Ethan when they were at their worst so it's hard to call any of the scandal created by them as a mistake.

For all of my criticisms vs. EVS, I really have learned a great deal about the industry and about how pros interact with their fans/customers. Mostly about what not to do. But at least I know what to expect! If he were to reform his life tomorrow, I'd feel good knowing we'd still have the Enola Gay of CG lolcows in Liam to cherish.

But it's a tale as old as time now. I'm hitched to the new wave CG a-logism: the Donal and Cecil human ouroboros of depraved mediocrity! Shall we start the timer for when Ethan rips those bobbleheads from his dashboard? Once C & D are gone. the only remnants of that first year will be the reanimated Nasser, Mad Dog Malin, your Bisexual Twilight Boi and of course the Manboarfrog Van Sciver. All that will be left to do is to rename the thread Scivergate in recognition of my noble efforts. No? MATI you say? 2021 is still the Year of the A-log according to ancient Chi-Com tradition.

From what I recall Doug barely mentioned it, as did Elliot. I would give him a break for his heart attack but he's active on Instagram and doing commissions and streaming. I don't know if he's slowed down or not, but he did quite a lot after his surgery or whatever.

I'm also not condemning him all that much because I kind of lost expectancy of the comic coming out. But the forums seems to be more in the know so I was seeing if there was any more information. I also still hold my opinions on the matter, he really did himself in with going to 100 pages, and not promoting it. Also, the fact that he's (I guess) putting out another campaign.

Comicsgate Financial Report - October 2021

With Frog and Lopresti's campaigns heading into Indemand and Jon Malin, Davis, Simeti and Canete's campaigns all closing off, the dropoff in collective funding is steep. Steep enough to reach June levels. The mometum from the Bloodhoney Box and action figure campaigns is enough to keep Frog himself from reaching CG Summer 2021 level of lows, but doesn't appear to have the longevity that the combination of Rekt Planet/Reignbow/Snowman/Creed had, we'll see how long that will be. For illustrative purposes I've added a purple line, denoting the average of the $5.9M CG took in over the course of 2020, not including campaigns carring over from 2019.

Regardless of Doug's promotion what he said about Elliot is true. Elliot unfortunately falls into the pool of high-talent, low-charisma comic pros who fell between the cracks in the turbulent months before the WC schism. He also seems to have a knack for choosing the wrong side, at least as it pertains to his own self-interests. I want to cut him some slack because of his heart issues but from what I remember he was on minor streams right afterward whoring himself out in menial art auctions when he would have been better off doing...literally anything else. He's a decent guy, but I'm finding it oddly difficult to feel much sympathy for him.

While I have you, CREEPSTERS! looks leagues above anything else you've done but the trailer sucks. Having some obscure faggot introduce himself as "Soy Rage" and unironically use the soyboy voice without context in what is supposed to be a promotion is both counterproductive and off-putting. You're appealing to an extremely niche crowd at a time when Comicsgate has never been more publicly visible.
Frog's Cyberfrog trailer is currently the bar for quality. Aim for that or above.

That's the CG line. Doug's didn't promote X.

Meh, it's been awhile since then. Plus he's apparently putting out another book and was doing other projects. So it wasn't as if he couldn't work.

No, I meant since he scrubbed his Twitter I can't search it to verify who's right. But to my knowledge Doug hardly mentioned it.

Take the L.

Ethan's apparently going to actually promote this one. If Richard is any indication, that'll tack on quite a few pay piggies

Soy Rage is a funny character on Nasser's show, but yes, when I played the trailer on ComicsGate Kings, people were probably less likely to back after they heard him do the voice over. It lacks context for my audience, who are only judging the project on it's visual merits until they hear that voice, and then they end up wondering what they're getting into by supporting Nasser.

"That's sick" is also kinda played out.

Nasser is most amusing when you underestimate him, and he plays along with respect, and then suddenly uppercuts his elders with playful disrespect they weren't anticipating. He did a great job on ComicsGate Kings this past Sunday when it was time for him to go. He thanked everyone and then called us all old timers who'd be long dead while he was in his prime, or something. It made those guys laugh. Vintage Nasser Rabadi.

Anyhow, I'd like to see Nasser making $20K per project again, so that's the goal with CREEPSTERS, which really does look like a winner to me.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but SOYRAGE is not a character. That is Stu.

We tried to tell him the "SOYRAGE" thing was played out and people were tired of it. Also talking about fucking nasser all the time was getting ridiculous. Stu only dreams about fucking nasser and being overly racist now

The whole plan was to have 2 trailers where they were bookended with Nasser voicing over the second one going over the Perks of the campaign... the same length as the first with soy rage saying YES at the end to counter act Nasser's "THATS sick" from the first trailer.... but alas life gets in the way and it was never filmed... It played its part as a gag for the show beautifully but yes, its time for a new one for the NEXT 60 days.
