Gerhard seemed to get along with him okay. Also Cerebus itself didn't really go off the rails until the last leg of it, although Dave Sim was increasingly obviously nuts even before that.

I honestly don't see how you could have known of the guy through the rest of his career and then anything recent is somehow the last straw.

I'm trying to listen to this but getting kind of lost between where TUG is reading something someone has written and when he's stating his own opinion. Is he saying that evidence has come to light that Sim actually was sleeping with that kid before she turned 21 despite what he said in that other post?

EDIT: Okay, I guess he's saying he met with her and shared a hotel room with her in 1985. If she was around 22 in the early '90s, that would have been too young.

Apparently ℤoë Quinn is in trouble again after jumping into the comics industry for, low and behold, being romantically involved with a Reporter covering the industry. Apparently a lesbian relationship this time though. The Verge reporter Laura Hudson is proported in the article to having lost her job over this fraternization.

How can anyone take Max Bemis seriously? His whole persona is centered around "Friendly neighborhood sociopath. lol" that's built on TV cliches about the mentally ill. He's clearly playing a character in place of having an interesting personality.

This is disappointing. I like Dave Sim's work and I was looking forward to him helping Ethan on Cyberfrog (because, lets be honest, Ethan desperately needs help getting shit done). That said, I'm not too broken up because Sim's writing has degraded significantly since his heyday on Cerebus. Glamourpuss, for instance, was beautifully drawn and had some interesting concepts in it, but was ultimately dragged down by walls of text and a lot of incoherent prose characteristic of Sim's latter day pomposity. His Cerebus in Hell run is no better in that regard, with many panels leaving me scratching my head wondering what the punchline is supposed to be.

Despite Sim's many flaws as a writer, he's still very good at plotting and dialogue. It would've been nice to see him in a collaboration with someone who could tell him to tone it the fuck down.

Whoa there, Turbo. There's no evidence so far that the relationship was sexual, but still it was clearly a level of friendship that warranted disclosure. It's also not clear that this article was the reason Hudson had to leave the site; I imagine if the article itself warranted that, it would be amended or retracted. It appears she was on her way out anyway.

At any rate, as I said in the Quinn thread, I don't blame Quinn for this so much as The Verge and Hudson. It's their job to disclose this sort of thing, not Quinn's.

Apparently Edwin Boyette directly question Sim about this, and Sim told him about making arrangements to bring the underaged girl across state lines, share a hotel room, and take some pictures. Supposedly Sim admitted it was a Mann Act violation. But don't worry he surely waited until she was 21 to have ACTUAL sex with her... uh huh! Surrre he did. He's a Creeper. No question. I was expecting some Mark Waid-esque professional behavior where he's punching holes in walls, sending black wreaths to former coworkers and back-stabbing every person he's ever worked with.

I don't see any reason to give her a pass. This isn't her first rodeo and she already knows the rules from long personal experience. She's a corrupt whore who never fails to steal money or sleaze her way into good press, or more or less anything, with absolutely no scruples to stop her.

There is a world of difference between being the Al Bundy'esque loser who rants about how the womenz suck all the joy and creativity out of everything, and transporting a 13 year old across state lines for lewd and lascivious purposes. You don't have to disown every friend or colleage if they are a bit of a Cave Man mentally. Deplatforming and Unpersoning people for speech and beliefs is kinda a bad thing. Whereas staying the fuck away from an admitted child molester is wholly within the bounds of reason.
