Reminder (updated):

The Current State of Nu-Vertigo:
  1. Border Town (CANCELLED) - Due to Male Feminist™. Currently at issue 4, no plans to publish the rest of the completed work.
  2. Hex Wives (CANCELLED) - Not sure on the reason, might be low sales. Currently at issue 4, will still publish up to issue 6.
  3. GODDESS MODE (Current Issues: 3) - Still a trash fire.
  4. American Carnage (Current Issues: 3) - Started out okay, devolved into crap. Not even good writers can make SocJus work.
  5. High Level (Release date: 02/20) - If Sheridan can keep his TDS out of his writing , it might be the only book to at least be decent. (:optimistic:)
  6. Second Coming (Release date: 03/06 CANCELLED) - Currently has a petition of >100K Christians asking for it's cancellation. Christians won.
  7. Safe Sex (Release date: Still TBA) - Might get quietly cancelled. Release date delayed, even the creators don’t know when it will come out.
EDIT:
3/7 Cancelled, DC sure picked a real :winner:. If only they were told how this would be a massive failure by a group of autistic comic consumers. If only.

tl;dw: The official story according to co-creator Mark Russel is that he asked DC for the rights to the property back and they consented. He will publish the series through a different publisher.

Obviously there's probably more to that story, but somehow I doubt that it's merely that the internet petition and other fussing by fundies was making the book a liability for DC. Maybe there were disagreements behind the scenes or the creators couldn't get their pages done in time or something like that.

Zack, for his part, didn't appreciate the busybodies behind the petition that wanted to get the book snuffed any more than he appreciated those who did the same to his book.

My guess is the behind-the-scenes stuff was that the LCS FOC (final order cutoff) numbers on 1 & 2 were so low that DC was gonna scrap it no matter who petitioned anywhere but it gave cover for Andy Khouri (Vertigo Line editor) to claim the petition was the reason & not that he’s picked literally nothing but garbage to be published under his line. Another from-the-jump failure might have been the last straw on his job since DC is actively looking for places to trim their output. If you have 1 editor that’s picked literally nothing but failures, he’s probably the first guy on the chopping block.
 
Imagine if DC/Vertigo caved to these groups when they put out Preacher, Sandman, Lucifer, or Hellblazer. Instead they said thanks for the free publicity.

Crisis was a major catalyst in the Legion's decline because the rampant retcons Levitz and future creative teams made would render the title near-incomprehensible for readers. For example, John Byrne's Man of Steel established that Clark Kent did not start his super heroic career as an adult and was thus never Superboy. The first crack appears because Superboy was both the team's inspiration and participated in most--if not all--of their adventures in the Silver Age and into the Bronze. Similarly, the character Mon-El could not exist because his origin was tied to Superboy as well. Levitz painted over the crack with the Pocket Universe Superboy and it worked for a little while...

...and then the Superman office demanded that Legion remove any reference to Superboy, and thus the soft-reboot we got in the TMK run. Mon-El gets the new moniker of Valor and takes Superboy's place as the Legion's inspiration and Supergirl gets a replacement in the form of Laurel Gand, later known as Andromeda. Another crack in appears in continuity, and more appear as TMK fuck up the Bronze Age Legionnaires (despite Timber Wolf joining the team in the Silver Age.) Things get worse when they introduce Batch SW6, and then things get so fucked up that DC reboots the team in Zero Hour.

Of course, the base is so broken after that that there are fans who incessantly complain about the postboot "Archie" Legion. DnA come on board--and surprise--more fans complain. Mark Waid reboots the Legion to wank the Silver Age again. Jim Shooter returns to the consternation of some of the fanbase. Geoff Johns brings back the "retroboot" Legion and fans complain that he is wanking his childhood Legion (again!) and the cycle never ends, so excuse me if I don't give a flying fuck if the "fanbase" reviles Legion Lost or not. The fanbase is a broken mess regardless of that fact.

The downright hilariousness of the fandom as a whole is that is will always be made up of bickering tribes and that every new iteration of a property is going to fracture it even more. Yet the powers that be at both Marvel and DC believe that inserting more characters or replacing existing ones with new ones will strengthen their brands. Most evidence points to "no" because it just encourage longtime fans to abandon ship and there are not enough new ones to replace them.

Heh I can see why she would lose her shit. Tbh Ren and the people that enabled her ridiculous attacks on Simeti and Alterna share the blame, but Ren isn’t the one that started it. Simeti didn’t get his name dragged in the mud JUST because of a fat hag in a blue wig. I think most of the blame should be put on the “professionals” who started the shitshow.

A thread I was thinking of making and lost interest in has been relit, expect it in the coming days.

This reeks entirely of Dan DiDio trying to help his bro Russell out. DiDio has been Russell's patron at DC as far as being the driving force for the Hannah Barbara line and Russell's success with said line.



DiDio wouldn't give a damn at the humiliaton of Khouri and the other jerks in charge of Nu-Vertigo and helping them save face. He DOES however, care enough to get in front of DC driving away a talent that he's been personally cultivating for the last couple of years.



And it's not the first time DiDio has released a project to a creator to take to another company. DiDio did the exact same thing for "The Boys" in order to keep on the good side of Garth Ennis, after the top brass balked at publishing an arc where a Batman stand-in had a three way with Not-Nightwing and Not-Catwoman (not to mention Not-Nightwing killing a gay fan club member that made a pass at him and serving as Garth's mouthpiece for calling gay comic fans a cancer who ruined Dick Grayson for him/other characters by way of projecting their fanon that character x is gay).



This is most DiDio trying to keep Russell happy so he will do future projects with DC. They'll present it as Russell asking for the rights PR-wise, but DiDio most likely intervened to try and to make everyone happy (well except Khouri and co) by releasing the project to Russell to publish elsewhere, before it comes out in order to pre-emptively cancel it. Khouri and co looking like shit is just a happy side effect of DiDio doing something like this

Tamra Bonvillain & Jennifer De Guzman are the 2 that are most directly responsible for the hate that Peter has had directed at him. They’re the 2 that started the pile-on back in the fall & were the first to label him a white supremacist.
