He eventually got the comic done years later, after Wal-Mart buyers bought the comics for 50 cents in the bargain bin and putting out multiple interviews to the press saying he was never Comicsgate.I forgot all about Mitch. How's that walmart thing going?
Agreed on all points.
I like the idea of doing a replica of WIZARD magazine as a one off collectible for ComicsGate, but it has to be much better planned than this. We need an explosive, kick ass cover, art lessons, definitive interviews, polybagged with a trading card, maybe...it needs to be an annual program for ComicsGate that is worth buying. It needs to be FUN.
The fact that it's Steve Dye doesn't matter. He can design the magazine, he can collect the profits. But it has to be cooler than this.

Glad to see that Mitch is finding out what happens when you disrespect your customers like that.He eventually got the comic done years later, after Wal-Mart buyers bought the comics for 50 cents in the bargain bin and putting out multiple interviews to the press saying he was never Comicsgate.

Yes, I'd say Mitch Breitweiser is doing juuuust fine.

From the perspective of a consumer, if I wanted a tutorial I could watch videos by David Finch for free. If I catch Finch live, I can actually superchat him questions for five bucks and he'll drop what he's doing and sketch out an example of what he's talking about it like I'm in a teleconferenced art class. This isn't even getting into the hundreds of hours of free Comicsgate "drawstreams" out there for people who want to study the technique of an unrecognized and obscure indie artist for some reason. What am I getting for $25 USD here? Lettering tutorials from Eric Weathers? Promotional art from Narwhal?

At under 500 views after 9 months for free, I gotta say demand aint that strong.
Packing it with news about comic book crowdfunds and topical issues has similar problems - journalism in comics is even more devalued than tutorials are - with Bounding into Comics and Cosmic Book News instantaneously putting out all the pro-CG online print journalist content anyone could want for free, and Youtubers both offering digestible news bites and acting as talk radio for editorializing purposes, it's hard to imagine anyone paying for old news. This is a problem not just restricted to comics journalism but all journalism for the past 20 years.
One argument towards the value of a creator showcase magazine that I hear a lot is how Wizard magazine built up guys like Billy Tucci and Art Thibert and yourself as celebrities and rock stars but, again, social media and youtube chats allow for what I'd argue is a much stronger, participatory and direct connection between fans and creators than an obsolete publication like Wizard ever managed (there was just no alternative to it at the time). As opposed to "an inside look at the creators behind the work you love" like what Wizard offered, Rokit comes across as a vanity project in the service of nostalgically puffing up the egos of already very well known creators, where an 'inside look' is readily available and, again, free.
The one thing I can think of that there is still a market for and could possibly justify the publication's existence is for the creative expression of fans and creators. Maybe something, god forbid, resembling an actual underground fanzine full of ideas and long-form thought not available anywhere else, as opposed to some sort of cargo cult emulation of a dead and largely unmissed shill magazine. If Comicsgate could be said to have an subculture or aesthetic, a fanzine should be packed with 110% of it (like you said, explosive, with trading cards, etc), with every participant contributing towards it like a mixed media anthology under a professional editor. That might actually be cool.
In other news:
Edit: JDA beat me to it, but recently blacklisted brazilian Joe Bennett has been signed on for at least two Arkhaven Comics, written by Chuck Dixon naturally.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=CphxFVo29UI
Less known but still interesting is, in addition to possibly working with @TheCosmicWarrior, Bennett's long-time colleague Art Thibert is also commissioning him for a variant cover for the up and (eventually) coming Black and White #2.
Is Vox Day now under @FROG's "big comicsgate tent"?Probably the biggest news of the day! Looks like he'll be on a JDA comic coming soon too! We welcome blacklisted Big-2 employees into our big comicsgate tent.
It could be in the six figure club if he hadn't been so colossally gay about fucking over his backers. So as not to pull a Liam Gray, Mitch ran the book on IGG too. So it looks like a grand total of about $20K for that gorgeous looking comic.

But is it worse than 499?the cover is gorgeous but, the interior art looks like shit.
I dont follow much of this thread, but over a year ago there was a Comic book done by a group of SJW
think called Dead brains
how is thier comic going, got released, delays, etc..?
The third books came out earlier this year. It was really sad to go to one of the local Wal Marts to find the issue #3s and seeing so many unsold copies of #1 and #2.At my local Walmart they are still there collecting dust. Only you really have to dig to find them as Mitch is taking forever to come out with the third issue of each of his books.
And they're still keeping him in arms reach even after he's fully revealed himself as a worm. They'll make uncomfortable facial expressions when he's brought up but they won't actually say anything bad about him. Even after all this time, and even after he's disavowed comicsgate and the customers it delivered to him. It's almost like he's holding something over them. All the artists including Mike Miller and @FROG who tried to justify and cover for Mitch are pretty gay too.
The moral of the story is that if you help Ethan Van Sciver, Dickie Meyer or any of these fags you're going to get fucked. It could be in the six figure club if he hadn't been so colossally gay about fucking over his backers.

The Walmart deal had the potential to make a multi-millionaire of Mitch (if it worked) and position him at the gateway to a millions strong market (once again if it worked). And they're still keeping him in arms reach even after he's fully revealed himself as a worm. Just in case.So as not to pull a Liam Gray, Mitch ran the book on IGG too. So it looks like a grand total of about $20K for that gorgeous looking comic.
I'll never forget how Wenger described this book:The Walmart deal had the potential to make a multi-millionaire of Mitch (if it worked) and position him at the gateway to a millions strong market (once again if it worked).
Miller and EVS aren't going to cut ties with someone with that kind of potential no matter how many backers he fucked over and lied to.
If Wenger had a distribution deal with the Walton family EVS and Miller would be talking about what a "gorgeous book" DRAGOON KNIGHT ALDRAKE: The legendary Hero is.
Just in case.

This distinction is unnecessarily reductive.Lower-level CG is a circus of delusion.
