It's just more old man yells at cloud bullshit.

They just can't stand their false gods being challenged by people they see as inferior.

Most people who are Gen-X or older hate anime with a passion, my best guess is that it's too fast paced and it doesn't have enough hostess fruit pie ads.

But Millennials were subject to the "Asian Invasion" of the late 90's and early 2000's; and then the Zoomers and Alphas grew up with anime as standard entertainment. No barrier to entry like finding a Suncoast store that had the right DBZ tapes you needed to find out of Goku and Vegeta kicked Kid Buu's ass or not.

So for Richard, Ethan, and the rest of the crusty old fucks that rage against anime, this is Hell. It doesn't get worse than seeing Superman mogged by a 12 year old with a sword. Their great and glorious Fantastic Four, Marvel's First Family... Completely BTFO'ed by a kid with a sword. They absolutely hate this, it's a revocation of every aspect of their "I'm cool and hip" attitudes, it smashes their megalomania and reminds them that they are---in fact, very out of touch.
Thing is I watched BOTH Superman and Demon Slayer this year. Superman was perfectly fine. But that's all it was. Fine. Not outstanding.

Demon Slayer was the culmination of 7 years hype. Even longer if you had been there at the start of the manga. From a technical perspective, it is the best animation Ufotable has ever made. Fights are incredible, story does what it needs to, and the music is fire.

Zach cannot understand this. There is no expanded universe bullshit or decades of lore. People just like it because it's fun. You don't need a major in multiverse theory to understand it. Watch the past seasons before the movie. Boom. You are caught up.

BTW, I just wanna say once again how much the opinions of people like Zack and EVS remind me of UAW employees in the 70s and 80s bitching about the "Japs kicking our asses," after they go on strike for the umpteenth time (meaning not working). It's uncanny.

They really don't get it. A lot of American comic product is either inferior quality crap or, in the case of CG, nonexistent.

The American industry is getting its ass kicked, because it deserves to. It's lazy. It doesn't serve its fanbase anymore.

With all due respect, you're falling into FROG's trap here. That's what he wants you to think.

With Ethan, I am convinced all it really takes to aggro him is that people are giving money for product X, instead of him. Iconic, July, the Japanese. It's all the same.

There's plenty of old people who like anime, and plenty of young people who hate it (i.e. Null).

Ethan was born in '74. He's the right age for all the heavily localized stuff that played on TV in the 80s. Robotech, for example, was '85. Hell, it was even a comic line that went through several U.S. publishers.

It also committed the sin of making money on time and under budget. The last season before the movie ended June 2024. This aired July in Asia before hitting the states. They had 13 months and 20 million dollars to do it. Comicsgate could only dream of such a turnaround time
Seriously, it is so stupid! He is trying to argue that him buying Transformers Toys and complaining about G.I. Joe is more mature than the guy who buys Gundam model kits and complains about the Gundam anime.

How about "stop being a bum and open up your own fulfillment and order taking site"

I mean, if that damn niggo can do it, so can big smart hole in the head Richard.
If he could do that, he would have.

That was partially because the Japs were making cars that did not spend power like a nuclear submarine. Their bosses failed them too. Still, a bad time to be striking.

Exactly. The mangaka, while they need to solve the overwork problem, know that the comics industry is a harsh one. You have to grab and retain interest. Going on and on about how much you hate the fans and how you will not listen does not work in there. If the sales drop, you better course correct or have a good pay-off in the end that ties everything together and gives satisfaction to the reader. Otherwise, you are fucked.

Could be argued that anime became big after his time though. He was 10 at Robotech and 20 at DBZ. He missed the age it was supposed to appeal to him. Then again, he was into making comics so keeping an eye on the geeky stuff should have been a given.

You know how the creator of Asterix decided to make a storyline spoofing manga only to be told that he does not get it and just give up on it after a while? EVS, Zack and the rest are like that but they decided to keep on mocking that which they do not get. For those who do not know, you have to have a great understanding of what you spoof in order to mock it successfully and in a funny way. CG tries to mock anime without understanding the first thing about it.

It's absurd. I know why he's mad too. He said nothing until it passed Superman in the box office. Now it's real shit because those FAKE NIP COMICS are making more money than REAL COMICS. Like, nigga, I hate telling you this but Demon Slayer AND Superman are both for kids, no matter how many statues you buy. You can enjoy them as an adult, I do, but you don't need to get so ass hurt over a box office score

I always saw Metokur and guys like him as unicorns.

This is what I saw with most Gen-X. They were too old when Toonami started, and never connected that Thundercats/Silverhawks/Tigersharks/Tranformers were animated in Japan.

[SPOILER/]

People who have crash outs over movie box office tallies are a special kind of stupid. Superman and F4 were solid movies IMHO: not perfect but certainly far and away better than the capeslop churned out over the last 5-6 years. They’ll find a second life in streaming like most movies do, because not everyone wants to pay $100+ for the experience for a movie that’s in a dying genre that may or may not be good.

I don’t get the hype behind Demon Slayer, but people like it and far be it from me to judge others’ tastes.

Dude, I am in the same generation as Ethan (Gen X), and Robotech was basically my introduction to anime. And like I said, there was a whole comics run, starting with Comico, beginning in 1984 (yes, before the show even aired), and then going through to the present with Eternity, Academy, Antarctic Press, Wildstorm, Dynamite, and now Titan. I had a lot of the early stuff. Wish I still did.

I am just saying, I don't think age has much to do with liking anime and manga, unless we're talking literally boomers or older (and I even know a few boomers that like it). Gen X would be just about right for much of the first wave of U.S fandom. Individual taste could be more of an issue, but I really do think, in Ethan' case, he just fucking hates anything that people spend money on that isn't his slop.

Besides, isn't he working on some manga inspired Cyberfrog thing with Sven Stoffels? I mean, come on. It's ridiculous. Ethan ain't that committed to hating a particular art style. He'd love Kamen America if it were CG branded. He also spoke approvingly of Battle Maiden Knuckle Bomb, and the stuff Raging Golden Eagle did (both of which ARE CG affiliated).

Ethan just hates shit when he doesn't have control over it, can't legitimately take credit for it, isn't making money off it, and it's more successful than his stuff.

FROG is full of shit.

Unlike the auto industry, the American comic book industry is refusing to learn and adapt. I mean for fuck's sake, they are fossils stuck in the past.

The entire western comics industry is just a feeder system for streaming services, and now that era is over, the entire thing is crashing into the ground.

Woah maybe they should've I don't know, made something else other than superhero slop?

The American comics industry is built on superheroes. If you remove the capeshit, what else sells?

The Punisher? If we're going by a strict definition in that he has no superpowers.

Ummm... do people still like those Archie and Veronica comics?

No, but seriously, the big thing anime and manga has going for it is it's a medium and not a genre. There's a diversity of genres within it. The problem with American comics is that there's so much capeshit, one tends to think of it as both a medium and a genre. American comics have a brand and image problem.
