I think a lot of it has to do with SJWs by and large being seemingly allergic to anything even remotely related to effort or responsibility. The main SJW philosophy essentially boils down to "it's not me, it's the system" and this attracts tons of chucklefucks looking for an easy excuse who jump on the bandwagon as well as enablers who think that expecting someone to deliver on a kickstarter on time, or people not wanting to contribute to a "diverse" kickstarter for looking like a shitty scam, is ableism/homophobia/sexism/whatever, and the end result is you get a bunch of naked emporers at the top of the food chain who rake in easy money by paying meaningless lip service and sycophantic fans who either fall for the scam hook, line, and sinker, or people who aren't pleased with being ripped off but don't want to vocalize it out of fear of their "privilege" showing.
Because SJW millennials are lazy, entitled, worthless little shits. If they could complete a project on time they’d have 9-5 jobs, a steady salary and wouldn’t spend 24/7 on twitter sad and depressed crying about what innocent thing offended them that day.
Lazy and stupid. They didn't have a good portion of the project done before begging for money, they quit at the first sign of difficulty, and on top of that promised more than they could do.

I think there's an argument to be made that there's value in tracing your RL stars to enhance your comic book presentation, just because it's Star Wars and that's what fans actually want. It's definitely lazy, but this is one of the few franchises where it's probably the right move to make.
