When you are a bunch of completely talentless pieces of shit whose only plus is you work for nothing, they'll just laugh at you if you try to unionize.

The sad part is that these people are paid very well in relation to the work that they do. Let's say the average writer is paid $50/page. A comic book script can't take more than a week to write, and can be done from anywhere, at any time of day. A 20 page script will make you $1,000, and if you write one a week you're making $52k/year. That's the median income for the average American.

Granted, few writers get to write 52 books a year. But even if you got one book a month, you can have a full time job, write your comic for 2 hours every night and still put 40 hours into your script by the end of the month. That's a $12k supplement to the income from your regular job.

This is only unsustainable when you want to be a fulltime "creative" and live in the big city. Yeah, $12k or even $52k is piss bucket money in NYC, but if Bixsexual Lightning moved to Montana, he could afford a house with a ton of land on that kind of income (with plenty left over to buy health insurance).

I'll disagree with your premise - if realistically you can't expect to make a living off of a given field, it's not paid very well. The moment sucking dick/working McDonalds/being an investment banker is required to make ends meet and making XYZ is a side hustle, you cannot call it lucrative.

Alternatively it could be that the major companies are incredibly fucked up, since random nobodies on the internet can outsell and outearn them. Ionno.

Its freelance work. Individual jobs pay very well in relation to the time, experience and skill required to complete them. The problem isn't the wage, but the number of jobs they're able to get.

Its the same challenge any private contractor/freelancer faces. A lawyer might get $300/hour for his work, but if he can't get clients he's still going to be living in poverty.

I've worked freelance for 8 years before embracing the wagecuck life, I know how it goes. Still, even when I've had bad months I still could support myself from freelance work. By your own post, comicbook pros usually can't - they get paid like shit even with a busy schedule.

Hey LNC, care to explain why Mitch is retweeting EVS - the guy you say is keen to rape his wife?
Hey Billy runs that channel and guess who decided to take a swipe at him because he did an interview with everyone working on Vestige

And the orca blocked him because he's not gonna play her shitty games and he'll talk to whoever the hell he wants. This bitch is afraid to directly to talk anyone that won't bend the knee and get involved in twitter drama. https://archive.fo/6sz5W

Maybe all the local bands in my area should unionize and demand a living wage for playing covers of Tom Petty every Friday at the bar.

Expecting that you should be able to make a living from being an "artist" is lol.

Is there something wrong with me that I'm continually amazed at Lauren's self righteous awfulness?

She does literally NOTHING but tweet and spend daddy's oil money on Grubhub.

And because I know you're reading this, you're still fat and ugly, bitch.

I don't know where you got that from. My whole point was that comic book writers are paid very well.

I'd say they're paid very well for what they do. That guy who is a regular who, because he constantly produces, gets some semi-livable wage out of it can turn it into a good wage if he also works the convention tour, gives autographs, gets speaking engagements, and otherwise milks what isn't a great wage into a lot of side income.

Throw in the occasional thing like something getting optioned for Hollywood, even if it's never made, and it's actually pretty good. Someone like Mark Waid is pretty comfortable if they don't do some stupid shit like become a malicious tortfeasor and get sued out of house and home.

Speaking of convention circuit...

I'm reminded of Mags constantly going to conventions and nobody ever giving a shit. Aren't those all-expenses paid by the publishers? Technically it's work, but if the pros weren't spiteful anti-social NPC's they'd be able to have fun with fans as if they were mini-vacations several times a year.

Can confirm. At a con I went to at the (I know now hights of her beed with ya boi) her table was empty pretty much whole weekend, tho she didn't have many books with her. My guess is she didn't bother taking much. Now that I think of it, it's pretty much true for any internet famous artist/writer that doesn't sell well. Sean Gordon Murphy had two hours wait line. Babs Tarr was effing bored out of her mind.

Disclaimer: This was also way before I actually knew who she was in comics, so I didn't really have a chance to have an opinion on her beforehand. Just that I wasn't sure if that was a man cospalying or a tranny at first glance. Sometimes it's hard to tell at cons 🤷‍♂️

Without too much detail of our interaction that would be too easy to identify- out of curiosity I spoke some to her and she left me with quite to the nope first impression. She wasn't unpleasant per se, but I'd say she was so sure of her own opinion, that she wouldn't stop to consider that something she thinks is true might be fucking opposite to reality for me. So I shrugged and went my own merry way, because I won't be arguing with weirdos. She also didn't have really inviting presence, sitting there, not even trying to interact with passers by, so I'm really not that surprised. In honesty only people who were trully interacting with her were other creators from her clique. So yeah. Confirming, normals don't give a fuck about twitter woke cred.

(also the books she had were ugly).

When at a con, ugly woman in cosplay... always assume she has a dick. Pretty woman in cosplay... always assume she has a dick.

I dunno, man, I've seen some chicks in cosplay at convention and there was nowhere to hide a dick. Seriously.

Still, remember, somewhere out there, there's a guy utterly done with her shit.

That being said, the costumes looked nice too :)

From the latest Ollie's flyer. They're still trying to sell their comics hoard, it looks like prices may be lowered.
