I found that even in non-filler issues of the manga I wanted to get into, there was a weird presence of 'slice of life' that American comics were probably too short per floppy in order to really get into. Well... I say that, and Marvel is probably a month away from rebooting Wasp which was like an Archie comic about a diverse group of female lesbians written by a dude with a brain tempered in soy.
Chip Z is writing a good daredevil run, it suffered from lack of a good artist for like 5 issues in the middle but he's got a really talented guy working on it again now.
I will say I’d take manga-style slice of life over Big Two & other webcomic-tier slice of life. At least in manga the slice of life is either taken to really bizarre places or drawn in a way that makes it feel like there’s more happening even in the simplest situations.

If I ever see another #woke reboot of a C-tier superhero where the slice of life shit is treated as the A-plot rather than plot breathers because the hipster twitter feminist writer doesn’t like action or conflict, and said slice of life mostly consists of characters whining about bullshit while on their phones, it’ll be too soon.

Today's shit storm started with this tweet (at least for me, it's the first one I saw).View attachment 1023060
Then it got better. (This is the inker of Rebel Wilson optioned the comic fame "Crowded").

It's been going for few hours now, between many pro creators with staggering result of less than 100 retweets. And so far no-one, no-one, just stood up and said, that people are simply curious of thise comics, but don't find them good enough to buy and maybe if you're operating at almost loss, you should find better job (or writer, because Crowded is plain bad).

I hope they unionize and pay all the earnings in entry fees only to realize it made it worse.

(Also, from this place, I want to thank all the pirates for doing the god's work and delivering the goods to my bum fuck nowhere, so I can make informed choice and which comics are shit like Crowded and not worth the 40+usd in shipping. Carry on.)

This always amuses me. Piracy in media is a fairly easy to defeat problem. If you are getting so much rampant piracy that it is breaking your ability to do business or profit, it means your product is outside the price/valueratio to which consumers will tolerate. The way you defeat piracy isn’t by whining, shrieking or putting up draconian drm schemes. It’s by making your product more affordable, and by making it easier to get the product legitimately than it is to Pirate it. ITunes, Netflix, Amazon, Steam all thrive by having this understanding. Current comic pricing is so far outside the window of a consumers perceived value that the majority will either Pirate it or more likely walk away and find another hobby.

The irony of "slice-of-life" or the western "superheroes/supervillains day off" variant for DC and Marvel is they were quite capable of doing it right up until the mid 90ies before the dark times started and went into full swing.

listening to EVS new stream with Zach. And I'm at the part where these SJW wanted EVS, ZAch , CG and others broke and homeless
But now these SJW in the comic book are are losing money and some are having issues paying bills

Bottom line, SJW, leftist, Woketard crap does not represent the majority of society and in a free market
people vote with their pockets.
And these Leftist , Woketard etc, products are crashing all over the place from comics to film to shows and even in politics
But the interesting part, the only way these SJW idiots can compete and win, is by censoring their competitions, via de-platforming, kicking people of social media, and finally losing their jobs for income
And I have no sympathy for theses SJW, these people are pure garbage
There are still those of us who believe in creating original content that is free from moral busybodies and identity politicians at every level of development. As long as there are customers who enjoy fantasy content that isn't about a 5'1" 90lb. woman doing backflips and defeated 10 250 lb Marines at a time or having women wear a garbage bag over their entire body, there will be creators who provide.

Most people here who agree with your points still think comicsgate are mostly a bunch of spergy lolcows.
Acknowledging Doug Tenaple is a loser and a shitty person does not make you any less of a loser and shitty person. Both sides are shitty losers, both sides are cows.

What is it that makes these morons come here when everyone hates them?

I feel like this thread should already be marked 'plagued'.

In Tenaple's favor at least he seemingly produces in a timely manner. At least for projects under his direct control. His Earthworn Jim books are shipping. Which is a fairly impressive turnaround for one of these crowdfunded projects.

I'll take Doug TenNapel over other creators for one simple reason... he delivers his books in a timely manner.
EarthWorm Jim is shipping now.

That's how Doug handles all his projects even before his brief affair with CG. It's like he was too professional for them. He's about to release his book a month early. His 160 page hardcover book as well as a 96 page hc supplemental. For nearly the same price as Bloodhoney, I think it clocks in at $2 more after shipping per item domestically.

When cg streams go into full aut mode about the quality of art and call him transphobe and homophobe, they become indistinguishable from the sjws they purportedly oppose.

FFS Doug has months worth of live inking streams for EWJ, you can literally look at the art before you buy it and decide the quality yourself. I don't need a butt mad Ethan giving his subjective opinion on other projects, I only respect Comics Matter with Ya Boi Zack for book reviews.

Edit: Of particular note is the recent Jon Malin video (still banned from live streams because of EVS antics showing copyrighted material) where he takes issue with Doug taking CG to task for not putting out books on time in context with Doug saying he mercenaried out some of the sketch work for 30 pages of EWJ. As if we all didn't know Kyle Ritter drew most of Cyberfrog anyway. How dare Doug take measures to stick to a schedule!

Kyle Ritter is absolutely fantastic. I had him and Canaan White do work for my Escapism line of products for my store. The reason why I still support ComicsGate is because of all of the amazing talent I've met and now I get to work with. Plus Ya Boi Zach. Canaan and Kyle are not only professional, but genuinely the nicest people you will ever interact with... and they do care about the art.

I see we have infection from both sides of this dumpster fire.

Ethan may be a fat bald narcissist, but at least he's a very talented artist. No one can take that away from him. Doug's art is objectively shittier in every way.

Doug's personality and his videos are just as fake as Ethan's. I cringe equally hard when I hear Doug's video voice as I do when I hear Ethan's. Doug always pretends he's 'your funny, weird neighbor' despite hours of footage of him being just another kind of pseudo-creative elitist. Ethan's act has an extra level of irony, because he attempts to cast off suspicions that he thinks very highly of himself by pretending he's joking about thinking very highly of himself. Both pull very obvious gay ops.

Ethan's disingenuous streaming voice, the 'dulcet tone' he attempts, is so fake it grates on my soul -- but I'd take any book Ethan's ever drawn over EWJ or BFB because the art would be better no matter how late the book was.

Quality of the end result still matters, which places Ethan just a peg above closet-dweller Doug in my book.

Tell that to Sam Kieth with his Batman/Maxx mini that’s been on hiatus for months.

I get you, doomsday clock has been stretched to 2 years too. All I'm saying is that the anti-DC/Marvel """"comicsgate"""" didn't simply materialize because the their books are not on time. The point is punctuality is only a part of what constitutes professionalism. It's just weird that some creators are getting free passes (for criticisms) from customers because their books are on time.

I get that first-time comic book creators might not have the logistics figured out yet, so it's reasonable not to expect everything to go smoothly in their first campaigns. By their 5th or so campaigns, they should have a lot of the logistics systemized and the chances of the book release being tardy should be at low numbers.

I wouldn't know how good the artwork is of a creator who hasn't delivered their book to me. Doug on the other hand has delivered his book to me... and is shipping his second campaign, a 160 page book, early. That places him lightyears ahead of a creator who can't fulfill his own deadlines.

Delivering your book trumps not delivering it. So far it is Doug, 2-0.

Why is this turning into a CG hanger-ons thread again?

Anyway just being on time is not the Be All and End All of professionalism; If that were the case, DC and Marvel would have been absolute paragons.

Why don't you try that. Go get a job and then show up extremely late. You can then explain to your boss that you plan to do a better job than if had shown up on-time. See if that flies. Spoiler.... you'll be fired faster than you lost no nut November,

I dunno.... I don't really feel this comicsgate thing. I don't think they are all genuinely passionate for comics.

When I was a lot younger, when I have to make and publish my own comics/manga, I have to bootstrap myself and save enough money to do it. I mean there are still other indie artists that do it now. But it seems that the modus operandi for these comicgaters is to keep making videos crying about SJWs turning the frogs gay, then peddle their comic book shit. What is stopping them from bootstrapping for funds to publish their own comic books? Is their passion for comics limited by the ability for them to hustle their patreon/kickstarter/indiegogo?

I dunno, I guess I don't really get the crying in youtube that SJWs turned your comics gay to hustling for money is somehow shows that you are passionate about comics to the point you want to make them yourself. I dunno, I want to say a lot of things about it, but I guess its too advanced for me, or I am too old now.

the comics industry, through a series of stupid fucking decisions in the past 20 years, have created a high priced product marketed towards an audience with minimal means, little interest & values experience over ownership, while simultaneously turning its back on the long-time target demo that does have means to afford it, interest in the medium, and has no problem with ownership. It’s basically a complete failure of business 101 stuff. Either make a product that’s dirt cheap that even the“experience over ownership” generation will give a shot at, or make a product the older readers actually want to buy. They’ve elected to play mix-&-match & the result has been a vegan beef roast smothered in actual beef gravy. Nobody wants that.

There is a Axis of Passion

Guys like YBZ are towards the Passionate end. Guys like ethan are more to the middle. I think Mike has less passion
I agree plus YBZ had kickstarters from 2014 and always wanted to make Jawbreakers. I remember him saying on stream that he could make Jawbreakers stories for the rest of his life. You can hear the enthusiasm in his voice. Then there are some people in CG that are hustlers and all about the money.

That's a pretty stupid way to judge art lol. It's almost like you're here because you're a jilted customer, and not because you find all this shit funny 🤔.

Why don't you try that. Go get a job and then show up extremely late. You can then explain to your boss that you plan to do a better job than if had shown up on-time. See if that flies. Spoiler.... you'll be fired faster than you lost no nut November,

Comic artists are late all the time, they eventually get fired. Doug would never even have the chance because his art is objectively shit, and you're stupid for paying for it.

If you're here because Ethan was late with his book, you're here for the wrong reasons. Ethan is a lolcow because of his gargantuan ego, gay ops and actions on youtube/twitter.

You literally sound like you're just pissed you haven't gotten his book. If he had delivered on time, you'd probably be in his chat chanting 'heil caesar!' 😆
