Maybe they can have some redneck bigot called Joe Hova slaughter them all. Why can't anyone who isnt Neil Gaiman actually write the Greek pantheon in a way which isnt total shit?
 
I wanted to ask about something that's been niggling at me. Doug TenNapel asked Sean Gordon Murphy to do a cover for Doug's newest IndieGoGo book, Bigfoot Bill vol. 2. SGM agreed, but some days later, Tess Fowler (ugh) got involved and told SGM that he was supporting an LBGTQ hate-monger if he did said cover. Shortly thereafter, SGM talked to Doug and they mutually agreed that SGM would no longer produce the cover, at which point SGM went into sucking up to the SJWs mode.

This whole situation sounds, well, weird. Doug is about as outlier-ish as you can get in the whole comics scene given his views. And SGM has risen to be a rock star within the ranks of DC, so he should know the comics landscape pretty intimately. I just wonder if this was a gayop on the part of the anti-CG movement, in that SGM already knew of Doug's notoriety, agreed to do the cover in the appearance of being ignorant but knew that Tess would have his back, the usual Twitter shit-show happened, and climaxed at SGM pulling his support. Ergo, the SJWs get another notch on their belt, Doug is even more distanced from the mainstream, and CG in general takes a side-swipe hit.

Does that have any merit or is the conspiracy part of my brain going bonkers? Is this being talked about anywhere else on KF?

Much as I wouldn't put it past the WC folk to want to do this (never mind celebrate this whether they had a hand in it or not), I highly doubt Tess Fowler needed any encouragement or help to hurt Doug. Then again, you also have to consider that Doug did seem to get a bit of a bump for BFB2.

On another note, you know, this whole thing sort of reminds me of Chuck Huber and Vic Mignona with Chuck being the weak-kneed friend.

And Yaboi Zack got a bump from getting canceled too. It's the Streisand effect, SJWs are just really bad at cancelling people that don't take them seriously.

Their threats and intimidation only work when they've got spineless effetes as their targets. Like Murphy willing to compromise his integrity and show his belly, or Holowka killing himself to escape the torment.

Let's be honest here, SJWs are really good at cancelling people. Ya Boi has to do all the writing, management, marketing and publishing work to make a single issue of his comic. As his campaign totals dwindle, less and less of that is going to be profit. Meanwhile, people like Whale Simone and Brian Visaggio are getting paid thousands of dollars to write books while bearing none of the risk and only having to perform a minute fraction of the work.

You forget just how little they are paid. They all come from wealthy families. Comics are a lifestyle hobby to them. They do it for the clout. Not the money. They live off of the bank of Mum and Dad. Even getting a netflix deal pays shit. They just want to go on Twitter and scream about how they're on Netflix and how great that is. The comics industry is a stepping stone to them. And eventually they'll all kick the ladder down when the comics industry collapses.
 
I asked my original question because, in a way, it reminded me of what happened to D&C and AP regarding Jawbreakers. At the time, the whole situation didn't make any sense (to me). D&C's reputation at the point he was trying to find a publisher was already WELL established. And when the contract was made with AP, I thought, "Huh, looks like AP is willing to weather what will inevitably become a whirlwind of criticism." Then, when AP pulled out after Waid's infamous phone call, it was just so bizarre since, I was absolutely convinced, AP already knew with whom they were partnering.

AP isn't some new kid on the comics block. They've been around for decades and should have a handle on the comics landscape along with the requisite inroads. They also publish right-leaning titles, so they should already have significant social media-resistant callouses built-up. Just what was AP's endgame? Were they really and truly that ignorant of Richard's reputation or did they know what was going to occur all along and were just waiting for the right moment to appease a growing number of SJWs, even if it meant being in breach of contract? And would they have done any differently if they knew back then that Jawbreakers was going to hit $400K in funding?

A lot of what happened between D&C and AP still doesn't jive to this day.

Going by the email written by Joe Dunn, I believe they really received a ton of pressure they never saw before when they made a deal with Ya Boi. That fact that he wrote in a private email that he was very pissed off that they were being heavily pressured to bow to a bunch of people who don't even buy their books tells me he's being honest.

Considering how badly their Jungle comics campaign has gone, I don’t see many people buying their books in the future regardless of their bending the knee in the Zack/Waid drama.

Wasn't there something about Antarctic leasing studio space to Marvel contractors, and that implied in Waid's spergery was that they'd go elsewhere if RCM had a book published through Antarctic? Quite possibly I'm not remembering this right, dunno, but I thought there was something like that going on.

I recall there was some "professional threat" leveled against AP by Waid, but I'm not sure of the details. Could've been studio space (dunno why Marvel would need to lease any since they're in NYC and AP is based somewhere in Texas) or it might have had something to do with AP enjoying a reduced cost side-benefit from their print outfit due to a symbiotic affiliation with Marvel. Whichever it was, it sounded really grotesque, but a completely toothless threat from Waid since he wasn't acting as an agent of Marvel (supposedly).

I just find it difficult to believe that AP didn't do any vetting whatsoever of Richard before signing on the dotted line. If they didn't, I guess they won't make that mistake again.

Perhaps. Like I wrote, though, if AP didn't do a single bit of vetting of Richard before agreeing to print & publish Jawbreakers, that's really on them. Plus, after all this unpleasantness, if I was the head of AP, I'd be seriously looking into eliminating or at least severely reducing whatever leverage Marvel might have in my company's affairs (presuming, of course, Marvel was behind this all along).

Then the current TI case against Waid should essentially be a slam-dunk. It's not turning out that way, though. At this point, as with the Vic Mignogna lawsuit, I'm starting to have serious doubts the plaintiffs will win much of anything.
