SJWs aren't the biggest problem, the problem is the Direct Market just isn't sustainable now especially with the Covid shitshow.

DC seems to have caught on to that or AT&T is forcing their hand on the matter given their new focus on the mass market.

And let's be honest the Direct Market itself enabled a lot of the worst of this shit because as Comicsgeist noted Big Retail wouldn't tolerate shit like Iceman,America Chavez or New Warriors it's sink or swim bitch.

I say good. Bring back the spinner racks to my 7-11. Then I have an excuse to get on my BMX and go over there like God intended.

I said myself years ago that I'll be perfectly happy if the Industry shrinks back down to the bare essentials like in the post war era.

Even without the wokeshit comic books have been bloated for years. In no world do we need 12 Spider-Man and Batman books.

Retailer is sceptical about two years plan:

I also find it a bit suspect because I don't understand this idea of slow transition in the first place nor do I get how all of this is supposed to help with this transition.
DC is supposed to be hosting a big event next week but I doubt they'll talk about this.

That said I find it hard to believe things will continue as usual after AT&T just gutted a 3rd of the company.

They can always hire some rat stranglers to fill the gaps.
I guess but if AT&T was apathetic towards DC's operations why even bother with the layoffs when they're just a smidge on the books.

Not saying AT&T cares but it seems odd they gutted a 3rd of the company if they'll just let business continue as usual.

Nah, things will probably change, but as I understand idea of "transition" is that DC will leave direct market and I just don't see it. I can see them shrinking down their output, but leaving it completely sounds stupid.

Well I might have phrased it wrong but what I and I'm assuming the article meant is the DM would still be catered to but no longer DC's priority or focus.

It sounds kindof like Richards mistake in his videos on the subject. They won't leave the direct market, but they also aren't going to do anything for it.

Fact. DC is small potatoes that at most earns a little profit.

Also fact. Those salaries add up fast. Nuke a 100,000+ in salaries, while the division makes more or less the same and you've just improved the bottom line. That's what companies do in hard times. Look for redundancy and non-essential staff.

At&t is doing that across the board most likely and if they are they could wind up saving some real cash overall.

Same thing. They'll sell to the direct. Why not? It makes them money. They just won't be invested in the long term growth of the direct market.

Well at this point what can they do for it? Kicking out the SJWs isn't going to make kids go out to comic shops to spend 5$ on a 20 page floppy * And both Marvel and DC's attempts to be hip and with it to appeal to teens have been sales disasters * or stop the ongoing digitization of media.

The problem with the Direct market is that it's wholly reliant on a shrinking demo of 30+ year old men. Eventually this reality is going to hit Comicsgate stuff too.

To be fair, having YA Batman can make some future 20-somethings search for grown-up Batman stuff in a couple years. The challenge is putting out good, affordable Batman stories for different demographics. And no, Gotham High is not the way to go...

More from BC so take with a huge grain of salt as GranDuke said but apparently the Generations initiative * DC's sure to be shit take on all new all different Marvel * has been shitcanned and DC is reviewing it's "exclusive creator" * that includes Bendis and King * contracts.
Rich Johnston's shift from being an unrepentant soylent shit-heel to somebody that once in a while shows what approximates journalistic integrity is a greater character arc than anything DC and Marvel have thought of in 15 years at least.

Great! Bends is almost guaranteed to be affected. He is writing a lot of books, he brought over his Jinxworld imprint, Superman books under Bendis are selling worse than they did under last few writers, DC readers' reception of him was mixed, and given how DC marketed Bendis they are likely paying him a lot of money. He is the prime target.
King's involvement was already being scaled down, and this will only speed things up.

Hopefully Abnett won't get hit too bad. He can be a much better writer than either King or Bendis, but he has been slacking lately. Maybe some fire under his ass is something Abnett needs.

Well take it with a grain of salt because a shop owner's said that folks at DC were telling him the opposite regarding the two year plan.

I don't think that these things have to be mutually exclusive. Even if DC is still going to focus on direct market booting Bendis, I think, would make sense since he hasn't really justified faith put in him neither with sales nor with quality of his work.

Well no one else has been booted yet they're just reviewing the contracts if true.

Honestly I'm surprised only executives were shitcanned.
