I thought people might be interested in a little overview of Youtube viewership leaderboards, to get some perspective on the landscape of tubery and marketing.
Starting with the bottom of the barrel,
@TheCosmicWarrior is a good example of a bad Youtube channel (no offense should be caused here, as he shamelessly admits to being a crap Youtuber) whose most popular video is one about BLM burning down a sci-fi bookstore, this savagely apocalyptic atrocity garnering him only a scant 3.4K views.
This lags behind the
Comic Book Hut, or Comic Butt as Thomas Roiloup has inventively dubbed him - the Butt's most popular video is a 5Ker about how crap Anna's Vampirella cover was.
The future seems brighter for
Jon Malin, who approaches 10K on the recent JACK show Halloween edition, which is now his most popular video - out of his public videos, at least, since he privated nearly all of his old videos when under attack from War Campaign earlier this year. This is a commendable achievement considering that content-wise the JACK show is just him sitting around talking and looking at rubbish with his friends. But as we will see, the soaring heights of Youtube viewership seem firmly out of reach for CG in general, with some interesting exceptions...
But before looking at CG, let's examine a few comics channels for more context.
Near Mint Condition: frequented by top brown-nosing commenter TheCosmicWarrior, this channel may be familiar to you as that Omar fellow who irritatingly calls his viewers 'Minties' at the start of every video. Regardless, NMC is a comics channel through and through, and has achieved 100K plus views for comics videos - but his most popular one is about the manga Berserk at 160K views.
That's a bit more respectable than
Cartoonist Kayfabe, though, whose most popular video is about cartoon porn women from Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler. Prurient perhaps, but they're steaming ahead with the power of porn propelling them towards 400K - and the video has only been up about six weeks.
So where do CG creators stand in all this? Well an interesting bit of CG trivia is that both
@FROG and
Doug Ernst are Brie-boys - the most popular video on each of their channels is a mean girl gossip video about Brie Larson.
'LOL CHRIS HEMSWORTH SHOCKED AT BRIE LARSON'S STUPID EGO!' is Frog's messageboard troll-esque title, fetching him 528K views.
'Brie Larson dumps on peers' is Ernst's marginally more journalistic one, fetching him 435K.
So Brie rules CG, and truly if it was all about the money, CG should be making snide, gossipy videos about Brie Larson to feed the bitter and insatiable envy of Stupidwomankind, who I assume are the people watching these. Of course I won't embed the videos here, on the assumption that none of us wants to watch them.
However at this point it's worth cross-comparing CG with Fandom Menacers, and I'm afraid the results aren't pretty for CG.
Anna TSWG has multiple Brie Larson/Captain Marvel rants occupying her top slots, each fetching many hundreds of thousands of views, her highest around 770K.
Meanwhile Frog's old pal and quasi-CGer, Jeff of
World Class Bullshitters, has popped the million view cherry and even hit a double on yes, you guessed it, a Brie Larson video. So that's two million more views in the bag for hate-bonered megacelebrity Brie Larson, but at least WCB's effort is a twenty minute, researched presentation-style video with a vaguely interesting, non-gossipy subject:
'How Brie Larson cost Marvel one hundred million dollars'.
But not everyone in CG/TFM is under the heel of Brie Larson -
John Talks, formerly
John Talks Star Wars until Star Wars became too shit to even bother talking about, can proudly display his lack of Brie Monetization Syndrome with his own top videos, which are footage of MMA fighter Conor McGregor in a post-fight fracas, and more recently Biden LOL videos. Without really getting involved in networking with the so-called 'bigtime' Youtubers, comics-friendly pop-culture discusser John Talks has broken 100K subs and has two videos that have gained over a million views.
This is especially interesting to compare to CG messiah
Comics Matter w/ Ya Boi Zack, who has a comparable sub count to John Talks and whose top video is much lower in views, and somewhat in the shadow of Brie:
'Captain Marvel is everything wrong with SJW Marvel' is the title, with a viewcount of 667K. In his defense though, Zack went Brieless for his video thumbnail, using comic art instead.
So it's clear that even as a Brie Larson/Captain Marvel video content creator, Frog lags behind his peers in terms of both brow-height and viewcount: his buddy Jeff did a proper attack video about Brie, garnering two million views and the number one viewership spot on his WCB channel, while Frog's girlish gossip video bagged him only half a million views - which is enough to earn the number one viewership spot on his CAPS channel.
Frog's lagging behind is more evident still if we compare him to another sort-of-friend,
TheQuartering, who has soared to the lofty height of FIVE million views with you guessed it, I'm sick of typing her name now. And yes, it's a bitchy gossip video, not a clever one. However, TheQuartering distinguishes himself - and somewhat shames the comics community - with his number two video, about Stan Lee's abuse and torment in his dying days. This sad video has two million views. It seems strange that a card game dork with only a passing interest in comics is the one with the two-million-view Stan Lee elder abuse video, but perhaps only a comics outsider had the nerve to tackle this painfully heartbreaking subject, while superhero dorks buried their heads in the sand about it and ignored it, like the shamefully cucked, emotionally-stunted lifelong cowards that they really are.
That concludes this roundup, however I've left a special surprise for the end. There is one channel, you see... a Comicsgate channel, no less... where there be a video... legend tells of it having a near 700K viewcount! And it's not about Brie, it's not even riding a hot trend - it's all about comics. And not just comics - it's about a Comicsgate project.
Curious? Well perhaps Frog should brace himself, this one will come as quite the kick in the nuts for him I think.
Presenting... the champion king of Comicsgate Youtube videos:
