You don't need to do a crowdfund but you should, especially for things you don't actually need the fund to pay for like books.

Even if you set the goal very low, your most loyal supporters will back the project even at a higher price and you can add stretch goals to add to the value.

Books from Amazon don't come signed and you could easily include a hand written note thanking your fans for their contribution. I've backed a few projects where the creator included a surprise or a hand written note, some several pages, thanking me for helping them.

The people who wrote letters? I try to buy all of their work. Even if you just have a conversation with them in twitter DM's or an email it goes a long way toward building a dedicated base and goodwill. It's worth the time you take even if instead of writing 3k words a day you spend a day writing those words to your backers.

Some people even run discord servers or group chats for their core group to talk about their work and answer questions. They give sneak previews and may even hide Easter eggs in books for individual fans.

Crowdfunds are also a great way to build a mailing list which you don't get from Amazon. Ideally you want everyone who likes your content to be in the loop and have multiple ways to reach out other than twitter.

Some of the rhetoric I've seen thrown around by some our "victims" is absolutely retarded. There tends to be a lot of guilt by association and wrongful guilt attributed to non members of the site in an attempt to weaponize what has happened here on the farms as a cudgel against their online enemies.

When I first started doxing Warcampaign, several of them started running the narrative that @FROG was behind it or involved somehow. I even saw people claim that I was an alt account of his, which is impossible since having multiple accounts is against the rules and the mods will always out the members using the sock account.

Darth Lunga to this day believes that I am @Mecha, because he was doxed after getting into a twitter slapfight with Mecha prior. Again this is retarded because Mecha joined the farms several months ago, so my account cannot be his. I've also never interacted or spoke to Mecha before he joined the site and any conversation was limited to this thread and was brief.

After I doxed Clint Stoker, Liam and TUG did several videos and livestreams accusing me of being Thomas Roiloup. I then had to write up a massive post proving that I wasn't, showing that both of those chuckle fucks were morons and if they paid close attention to this thread they would know that was impossible.

Now the latest narrative seems to be coming from Preston and @Skinny that DA Talks and @VIkkiVerse were responsible for Skinny's doxing when it was @The Holmes. Never mind that Vikki has her own account here, so she couldn't be responsible lest she be exposed as operating a sock and DA Talks denies even having a kiwi account.

The point is whenever someone is acting like a retard on twitter, like Lunga was or like Skinny was, we notice. If they make enough noise or appear shady, we may judge them to be a worthy specimen for observation. Once immortalized here on the farms, they tend to blame the person they were arguing with off site. Warcampaign blames Frog, because it's convenient and suits their narrative. Lunga blames Mecha, because it's convenient and suits his narrative. TUG and Liam blame the SWC brothers, because it's convenient and suits their narrative. Now Preston and Skinny blame DA Talks and Vikki, because its convenient and suits their narrative.

At no point can any of these retards comprehend that we watch these livestreams, read these twitter conversations and occasionally enter discord servers looking for juicy targets or drama. We are not pro or anti-comicsgate and I personally couldn't give a fuck which tribe you belong to. Whether Comicsgate, Warcampaign or anti-Comicsgate, if you are acting like sperg or are associated to something shady, you stand to be doxed.

Neither of us have sock accounts. I have two Twitter accounts, my main and a backup, both containing 'vikkiverse' in the @. Dean has one. Neither of us hides and the only gay-op we ever got tangled up in involved a drunk Aussie calling Rhyzie a shoeshine boy and threatening to sue over being called a crack-smoking homosexual.

As for agenda, there isn't one beyond building an audience off of truth-finding. If we wanted to make money at this, we'd jump on an Amber Heard-type bandwagon like TUG.

Every time I watch a YBZ video, it feels to me like this wierd friend of mine who also likes comics gives me a call, talks about his day, the comicbook he just read and then goes on with their day. His style of youtube is closer to what Comictropes and Cartoonist Kayfabe or the other comic guys do, only less scripted, or what Comics by Perch does without the insight into the industry.

Unlike, say, the JAC show people who like to chill in a stream for hours and talk whatever they like and take the piss out of whatever.

You have three different approaches to youtubing and the times you have ragequit an EJACK show are hilarious. In your shows, the JACK people are reigned in your topics of choice and YBZ will pop in, speak for a while, then get bored and go away.

If you can reliably get YBZ to "call in" for 15 to 30 minutes during your livestreams you can get the best out of both your styles. Or do an "Ethan and Zack talk comics" half hour every week or two, maybe in a Cartoonist Kayfabe type show. Pick a topic, talk about it, get some superchats then move on. It will give you shorter, searchable content (that you need to attract new subscribers) and will give YBZ a way to connect to the audience.
But two hours of Zack can get boring very fast and, in fact, do those times you host him.

The issue with Preston is that he's completely internalized concepts from the online sex communities he frequents like Tumblr or FetLife, instinctively trying to invalidate his opponents' arguments on the ground of "kinkshaming". In the real world plenty of sexual behavior/kinks are considered shameful, especially the ones where shame and humiliation are the core component.
People keep telling him he shouldn't let his libertine take on sexuality consistently seep into his creative output and his business, not because it's illegal but because it's gross and nobody wants to see it, and his go to move is to accuse them of being prudes and kinkshamers. I think the art is serviceable, the problem is the layouts. There are pages there which are three panels of talking heads. There are splash panels where there is no "splash". Huge panels with minimal dialog can work if you're, say, Gary Gianni or Ody overrendering every part of the page and the art itself can carry the work as spectacle. but with Jeff's minimalist approach it just looks "sparse" as you say. It comes across more like someone unfamiliar with the format and dimensions of a physical comic book and instead are going with a poorly adapted webcomic full of 4 panel Tim Buckley-inspired headshots, or like Adam Post's first College of the Living Dead outing.

Not only is the goal extraordinarily high, its nearly as much as the previous campaign raised at $52,074. With no doubt a great number of the previous backers disappointed in the product I'd expect a trend downwards for a product that was received mildly at best for the second time around. Relaunches like Wart the Wizard: The Portal of Echoes have not exactly set records ($5,210) even with remastered art from the first book done by Peter Gilmore. Stealing Solo the Fandom Menace edition seems to be a new cover. features all new content created exclusively for this release! Which as far as I can tell is Anna's Cover and nothing else.

I have no doubt this campaign will at least hit the $40k goal but the $500k stretch goal has to be an inside joke no one else gets.

Also curious as to the "another Fandom Menace Campaign." I know TSWG has or had a pre launch campaign for an indiegogo but it seems to have dissapeared...

Stealing Solo had to have been the first big CG (or adjacent) project to fuck up, with the Sears Catalogue shipping, and being late

No doubt there's lessons learned from the first disaster, will be interesting to see if Jeff applied anything he learned on the second go around. His last update to the original campaign indicated as of early 2020 he was still not finished shipping.

I've had War Campaign riding my ass for over 2 years now. I've been smeared as a doxer, a stalker, some one who threatens children, and as a dog-fucker (just to put a bit of what's been thrown at me out there). While I fully appreciate this sense of schadenfreude you may be feeling, I've already been through this gauntlet.

Dean got tangled in Weeb Wars and has dealt with much the same, except I don't think anyone ever called him a dog-fucker.

Why would War Campaign or Weeb Wars be "riding your asses" anyhow? You seem to have deliberately stepped into both of those frays looking for trouble. Your "truth seeking", at least where I was concerned, was pretty much embarrassingly debunked, and while I've only seen Dean take a few pretty effective shots at TUG, TUG responded by unfortunately doxing your whole life...and for what?
