I have been online since 94. In that time I have witnessed a number of internet celebrities and their businesses rise steeply in popularity and then explode like The Challenger. It takes a certain stubborn nature to put meat on the bones of any grand design. However, there always seems to come a point where the swagger turns to hubris, and the architects of these empires effectively start handing out the blueprints for their downfall to the people who most want to see them fail.

I have always thought that you beat the kind of person who posts demented Tumblr tirades about how their cats, Kylo and Rey, refuse to mate with each other, by succeeding in spite of them. If, by your own hand, you bring about a situation where you are expending time, and possibly money, defending yourself against their lunacy, all that does is take you away from the people and the things that you love and the projects that you want to get done. In the process you give oxygen to individuals who do not deserve oxygen. If they must inhale a gas, then let it be methane.

It will not greatly impact me if you do something so dumb that it either holes your career below the waterline, or places an artificial ceiling on how high you can go. It will, however, sadden me if someone who, a few years ago, pulled themselves out of a scrum of people who were intent on kicking them back down, goes on to play a role in engineering their own downfall.

I have seen how the 'fuck all the haterz, I ain't changin'" mentality plays out online. At best it ends with a lengthy time-out in the wilderness, followed by an understated return, and attempt to regain lost momentum, in an online landscape that has moved on and is no longer recognisable.

Much like her cohost Katie, Mariet is also an active member of the Reylo community and is also a devotee of social justice. She also appeared on a podcast called Scavengers Hoard: A Star Wars Podcast titled "Episode #132 - A Roundtable on Racism, Reylo and Star Wars Fandom" [archive] which is also shared on the Reylo communities tumblr. Her artwork is shared by Reylo's offsite and again like Katie although her twitter has been nuked, we can find examples of her shaming others for not being woke enough.


Her tweets while gone also feature in many online articles discussing Star Wars and telling Dean Cain to "eat shit."

Her about page [archive] describes her likes, mixed Puerto Rican/Ecuadorian heritage and of course contains pronouns which are She/her incase you were interested. Unfortunately for Mariet it was her unique artstyle across several platforms that made her so easy to find.


She like Katie also nuked her Linked-In account, twitter and privated her Instagram no doubt expecting the backlash to be fierce.

EPILOGUE: THE DISNEY CONNECTION​

Curiously both of these specimens hardly have the resources and knowledge to be able to pull of something with as high production value as the Rewriting Ripley podcast and medium article. After reading the 70 minute long read and comparing the text speech to Katie, the previous contributor, the speech patterns appeared different. It was @Mister Dongs who insisted that there may be another unseen force who was using these two Reylo's as puppets to further their own agenda. While both Katie and Mariet have podcasting experience, Katie analytic skills and Mariet graphic design it still felt like there was someone else who was involved.

Enter Michelle Buchman, a former social media manager for Star Wars and Lucasfilm. Dataracer too felt like Michelle was likely involved from a collection of tweets he posted where Michelle asks twitter for "academics" to discuss a project with, with Katie in the replies.


Which is curious because several days later Michelle Buchman would allegedly be driven off of social media by rabid Reylo fans [archive] after she got into arguments with Reylo fans when several of them went after Pablo Hidalgo [archive].

However during the course of originally searching for Katie, one of our methods was searching for Webby Award winners of the same name to help narrow our search since the author of the Medium Article boasts about being an award winner, but it would appear Katie is not a Webby Award winner.


It would appear that Michelle Buchman however is an Webby Award winner, she is also focused on marketing analytics according to her own linked-in profile.


While we continued to dig into Michelle Buchman we noticed several curious developments, little mysteries and coincidences if you will. The first being that her former twitter handle was taken by a dummy account back in January of this year, right before the podcasts begun.


The account has 0 followers and 0 tweets despite being created several months ago and has the same handle as the former Michelle Buchman.

The most interesting mystery however will be in her dox post below.

The most curious thing about Michelle however is that despite finding traces of her social media profiles, her parents and even some former addresses she has largely been scrubbed from the sites we use to find out targets. Voter registration sites, information aggregators, online white pages, there is no fucking trace of this woman or her current whereabouts. Some of the best doxers on the site assisted us in tracking this woman down and yet we all came up empty handed. I'm told the only way this is possible is Michelle must have paid to have her information scrubbed from the internet, possibly due to the Reylo's attacks on her, or maybe in anticipation of something else. Still I will post what we were able to find below:

Aside from being bullied by Reylo's off the internet and possibly being the brain behind the Rewriting Ripley podcast, Michelle has her own Bleeding Fool article titled "Is a Crazy Person Running the Star Wars Social Media Account?" which was authored by the Fandom Menace's own Itchy Bacca [archive].

She also starred on a podcast Comic book show on youtube, late last year.


CONCLUSION

So there we have it fellow kiwis, the unmasking of the Rewriting Ripley team. Unfortunately we may be left with more questions now than when we started. I admit it could all be a coincidence relating to Michelle Buchman, but I highly doubt it. The Webby Award connection, her relationship with Katie, the scrubbed social media and in particular the lack of any aggregated profile of her address including in connection to her own parents is highly suspect. It's important to note that according to her Linked-In page she ceased working for Lucasfilm in August 2020, it may be possible there is no true Lucasfilm involvement at all even if she herself is involved.

What's left is a mystery, left for others more interested and autistic than me to solve.

The worst take I see on this subject is a demand that Snyder "clarify" his comments. Holy shit, any ambiguity is a gift.

When Jeremy says that "the true test of people is to stand up when things are the toughest" after laying down and letting Zack shit all over them legitimately made me MATI. "Oh it wasn't on my channel, I wasn't there, they do what they want but I told them behind the scenes not to escalate." I am obviously not saying that they should have came out with guns blazing but asking for clarification on the spot would have either cleared all this up or would have lead for a very interesting continuation.

Never watched G+G stuff because all the FM guys basically say the same stuff, they just got different areas they cover, but Jeremy comes across as a slimy corporate scumbag, I swear he said "brand" at least 50 times. Yeah "there will come a time when I address this" too bad nobody but your echo chamber will hear it. I get it that the point of the FM/CG is to build alternatives and the G+G brand is one of those alternate things, but if the community behind that is allowed to be shat on and the leaders do nothing then the whole fan community/movement is meaningless.

Props to EVS for actually reading the superchats that roasted the hell out of Jeremy because they were absolutely right.

I prefer using square brackets for additional information [example] but I was unaware that [ private ] (no spacing) triggered the bbcode for a unique spoiler that hides information for guests and removes results from search engines. It was triggered for mentioning that her social media was privated and then it attempted to fill in the code by placing an [ / private ] at the end of my post.
