Gotta love that he's using shitty basic bitch 3D backgrounds because drawing straight lines to a vanishing point is too hard. He should probably stick with it seeing it almost looks like a real production compared to his actual backgrounds, at least it shows a semblance of structure.

Here's the thing; I actually think Narwhal's style was really, really intriguing with Foreign Agent. I didn't sign up for the book (which speaks more than words, I know), but I think it was more polished there, and a lot more fitting. The artstyle and color palette was equally subdued, yet characteristic enough to make an impression.
499 went from looking closer to that, to now looking like a Spongebob storyboard set with less line work and an Andy Warhol paint job. And I don't think Zack is blameless in that. Likely the opposite.
We see this a lot with creatives who have a breakout success, as far as the term goes in any given context. They have a seemingly unorthodox style that's moderated by a want and pressure to gain credibility in their field. When they get it, they get arrogant, allow their pretense to take control, and overindulge, failing to actually improve on what made their work resonate, or pick up the slack where it was lacking a little (or a lot).
Bird, Whedon, Gunn, Kojima, Bleszinski, Howard, arguably Tom King, just to name a few. As much as Manga is kicking American comics in the teeth, a lot of those writers run into the same problem.
The thing is that neither Zack or Narwhal are on that level, and that's within the confines of comics. No offense to either of them, but those are the facts.
@FROG has the right idea. The indie comic rush isn't going to last forever. At some point, you're going to have to start reaching more than three to ten thousand people. And you're not going to do it by being artsy all of sudden.

We don't know yet. Looks like he's trying to do something different for this particular story.
But if you've read his prior books, you know what he's capable of. Looking at each individual drawing and complaining is like having your nose pressed against a Monet painting.
If you are interested, wait for the finished piece of work, read it, and then make a judgment.

A lot of it is indie 80's and 90's Nostalgia.
Narwal has this rough but unique art style one could find in 80's indie comics (I mean, have you seen the first issue of TNMT)
And Zack has the insane ideas the Image (or Vertigo) guys would come up with in the 90's.
When established pros will praise someone they probably see something in them and it is also important to mark every word, because what they don't say is often some sort of a diss, for instance Chuck Dixon telling that YBZ has a fertile mind can easily hide a "but dude can't write for shit".

It boils down to this. Zack made his name on being the basic dude who knows what he likes. Relatable, funny, likeable. He built his channel by roasting the pretentious political amateur garbage coming out of the mainstream. We loved him for it. But this is what happens when you give a guy more validation than he can handle. This is where we discovered that the core of Zach was more upset that he couldn't be part of the mainstream. Once the dream was effectively fulfilled and he made it big, suddenly he's the idea man who can turn anything into gold. He was not nor ever will be a serious "artist" because he is not a serious thinker. I caught him blathering about religious tolerance because he had a kid with a Muslim woman, which was an incredibly stupid thing to do when he's essentially an agnostic type. But hey, who needs to talk about ideas when you just can't say no to a wiggling burka?
Narwhal's style is a troll on western comics pretending what is good enough for a comic strip is good enough for a comic book. Like a comic strip, every panel is begging for a punchline. It's distractingly bad and takes away from any attempt at serious storytelling. Perfect for the funnies, terrible for a comic book. He even managed to make the colors so vomit-inducing it makes me think of the time I got sick from drinking milk and Hawaiian Punch one right after the other when I was a kid. My heart goes out to the epileptic reading those panels too quickly.
Frog's famous lack of principles is showing up once again. All that really matters is personal loyalty. What's that? You have someone on your team who has an alcohol problem? Ah, I can't tell someone how to live their life! A couple of comic con-artist pros can't handle a deadline to save their lives and sell out their patrons to Wally World? I'll conveniently be the last one to criticize them! Zack going down in flames? That's alright he's served his purpose, but to double down on his bad decisions let me promote the digital dribble of a fat oceanic unicorn.

That's not how it went.
Ethan just said "Yeah I dunno I don't think we should be making Trump books or anything political that'll be outdated in a few years." and people got angry. Tim didn't have to leave--he was still on CG streams after the 4th of July mega stream, and he was still working on Cash Grab with Cecil and Nerkish. I still don't really know why Tim and Nerkish left that book. But either way, I don't think Ethan every said "YOU MUST LEAVE CG FOR MAKING TRUMP BOOKS" I just think he and Tim butted heads a little, so Tim left.

There's nothing wrong with that. Trump doesn't have to be on everything--he doesn't have to be the focus of our comics, especially when CG started because we were fed up with politics being shoved down our throats.
At the same time though I don't care if somebody makes a Trump book. I bought all of Tim's Trump books and they were funny. But there's nothing wrong with Ethan saying "Let's do something other than parodies."
Well yeah, don't go lecturing your customers.

Most or many CGers probably voted for Trump. Despite that, making Trump comics seemed short sighted, to me in 2018, for creators who are trying to build an indie comics scene. I was speaking of Chuck Dixon. I felt the creator of Bane should be creating something that might last, rather than trying to get Steve Bannon's attention with goofy Trump worshiping pamphlets. (I didn't give a shit about Tim Lim.) Trump comics have a limited shelf life, and without me promoting them, had a very limited audience. But by all means, make exploitation shit if you want.
Turns out, Tim Lim finally stopped being a hysterical woman, and took my advice. No longer making Trump shit, his numbers are finally growing.
The "Pride Is A Sin" incident was the 4th or 5th super-provocative Mike S Miller troll, and I'd had enough of his bullshit. He's an asshole that can't get out of his own way, and sabotages his own success. I was tired of answering for him where his activities brought my channel negative attention.
All of this shit is now 3, going on 4 years old. Obviously, in retrospect, I was right all along.
