Lim reminds me of Fred Perry.
Ditto. Or Joseph Wight, who did Twilight X.

Antarctic Press had a few of those creators in their stable. Hell, Vol 1 of Kamen America has a AP edition.

Had I attended WellRead's KA review stream, I would have brought up this:

It's written and illustrated by Shotaro Ishinomori (of Kamen RIDER fame), but it was specifically done as a contract job with Nintendo for serialization in Nintendo Power (an English language magazine). Consequently, it reads left to right, and is in color. Viz collected it into one book. I picked it up a couple of months ago out of nostalgia.

Is it a comic or a manga? It's both and neither. You can successfully cross-breed the two styles, you just have to make sure a fucking idiot isn't in charge (like Liam).

If Narwhal's art was in some shitty SJW book, you can bet the CG pantheon (and Zack) would be savaging it mercilessly at every opportunity.
Agreed.

On the Ryzie stream, Frog said of Narwhal's art "I can say that's it's artwork easier than I can say it's good comic book artwork".
Yeah, that was weird.

It's a... uhhh... comic book. So, that's not a particularly good defense.

It's like saying "well, 499 is certainly a thing."

EDIT: Typo.

Damn, that looks cool. Thanks for posting this; I think I'm gonna order it.

On the topic of Kamen America, I stayed away from it for a while as I was sort of a CG diehard and didn't feel like buying books from anyone I thought to be "anti-CG." Then I realized how gay that was and how little those labels mean. So I jumped in on Kamen America because it appeals to me aesthetically and it did look like a decent blend of Western and Japanese styles/sentiments. And honestly, it's really enjoyable. The books are well written and well drawn. The characters are pretty fun and the tone of the whole book is just charming. And the ON-TME DELIVERY is just the icing on the fucking cake. I backed Kamen America 3 and received it maybe a month later. Love that shit. Anyways, from now on I'm just going to back books that appeal to me and continue to back creators who deliver enjoyable product.

WTF is happening in this thread?
WTF is going on with Zack? Somebody fill me in. I stopped paying attention to this in like 2019.
He's shedding nearly 40% of his backers from each Jawbreakers campaign, refuses to livestream to promote on either his or others channels, is putting out topical political books like Pandemic and Ballad of No, has neglected to fulfill his two largest campaigns (The Expendables and Jawbreakers: Grand Bizarre), abandoned his lawsuit against Mark Waid and has launched five campaigns since his unfulfilled big ticket campaigns previously mentioned.
Lim/Ethan Faggotry Timeline!
Lim/Ethan Faggotry Timeline!
My version of these events are as followed.

*Antarctic Press cucks on the Lost Souls deal which enrages a large portion of Comicsgate, former CG indie darlings Tim Lim, Rags crew, Punchline crew and several others defend Antarctic at the time which isolates them from the movement.

*An off hand comment from FROG on Trump political comics being Comicsgate sparks division.

The comment clipped below, decide for yourselves.

*This comment then leads to a livestream discussion between FROG and Doug Ernst.

DOUGLAS ERNST vs EVS working out a GRIEVANCE, LIVE

*Which was followed by a massive livestream with all the old faces which was dubbed "the transcript" stream, in which Tim Lim confronted FROG with a transcript of his words in the above clip.

COMICSGATE-GATE SUPER MASSIVE LIVE STREAM!!!

*After these series of streams the issue was largely resolved and FROG promoted Trump Space Force to over $70K. The next time Lim would land in hot water was walking away from the original Cash Grab collaboration with Nerkish and Cecil. What is often lost to memory is that it was Nerkish who first walked away from Cash Grab and Comicsgate in solidarity with Miss Sashi who was being harassed daily by Warcampaign, Tim merely agreed with him and left the project as well.

cashgrab.jpeg

*After which was followed by the "Black Glove Incident" which I've already covered previously in the thread and provide links to the original posts as it happened in real time.

Much of this drama is getting close to 3 years old now and is extremely tedious and gay. Both FROG and Tim Lim have moved on and are doing their own thing quite successfully. This cold war that exists between them is boring and played out. Who cares about 3 year old drama now at this point?
Tim got the boot before Vox didn't he?
No, Vox was booted around July/August of 2018 while Lim didn't officially leave until he left the Cash Grab project publicly with Nerkish during November several months later.
Wait what? @FROG was paying bail bonds for Antifa? Fucking why?
Dynamite Comics whom FROG and Comicsgate were previously involved with was funneling funds to something called "The Bail Project" a social justice group which raised funds to get dangerous PoC criminals out of jail and back onto the streets.

I originally talked about it in a Comicsgate News Update last year here.

You ALWAYS say the new book is your best book. If you didn't, why would people back it or look forward to it or care?
That is a poor form of marketing and one which a consumer will remember if they have a poor experience with the product after previously being promised that they will "love this book" like it's a definitive fact.

Meyer's choice of words should be amended to "I love this book and I think/hope you will too" instead of declaring "You WILL love this book" each time he launches a new one. He promised people they'd love Pandemic, Ballad of No and Iron Sights and look how those turned out.
are Tim and Zack still cool With each other?
I think I can remember Zack shilling the first Kamen America, Zack cites Lim's success in his spreadsheets and I've never heard him criticize him openly.

the draftsmanship has to be above the talents of an adult who doesn't draw for a living.
Bearing in mind the page rates of most comicbook artists today, the bar is higher than 70% of most comics published today.

See, this is the kindof stuff I can get behind. Renfamous lives in Texas too, right? Maybe she's given up on Frog and managed to seduce Richard.
I thought Ren wasn't brown enough for Richard - I extuingish PoC by having children with WoC adding some crackers to their chocolate gene pool - Meyer.

are Tim and Zack still cool With each other?
As far as I remember, YBZ is cool with Tim Lim and JSG is a megafan.
"YBZ is not comicsgate" is partly because he is not into the gayops and the beefs between creators.

If Narwhal's art was in some shitty SJW book, you can bet the CG pantheon (and Zack) would be savaging it mercilessly at every opportunity. There's no fucking way they'd give this a pass if some twit like Kelly Sue DeConnick or Gail Simone or Chuck Wendig was writing it. Not one of them would go "This book fucking sucks and Wendig is a talentless soy creature, but this art really has something that speaks to me". Just like none of them would recommend him to an editor or give him work after a portfolio review. He's got a niche, weird, hastily drawn style that kind of evokes a hint of animation but it isn't cut out to sell comics outside of a very small audience that's already into experimental artsy shit.
Let me present to you exhibit a:

YBZ has always been into that weird artsy artwork, to the point that even JSG did a great dig at him a couple years ago that made me chuckle. It was there all along just most people skipped those videos.

Testefy is having WAY too much fun with this.

And I'm okay with that.

Speaking of...

Is it bad form if I buy the AP edition of KA1, for the sake of completionism? I know Dunn cucked to Waid, but I also have to imagine Dunn was dealing with a tremendous amount of faggotry for it to get to that point. 🤔

This video came out in January this year, after Meyer announced his plan to model his channel after the much smaller youtuber and well known comic book farthuffer Cartoonist Kayfabe.

Original Ya Boi Zack was all about "your job is to give the customer what they want" this, "hot dog salesman" that as the prescription that would pull the comic book industry out of its tailspin instead of its catering to a non-existent audience. Current Year Richard C Meyer by contrast is... this.

For all of Frog's talk about the dynamism and expressionism in 499 and Jon Malin's teeth-clenched platitudes while railing against simplified, degenerate art in previous shows, there are people readily available even within Comicsgate who do it far better: Matt Crotts' Kyrie series for example is going for the same vibrant, flat color style that "Narzack" is going for, but unlike Narwhal actually has the talent and work ethic to successfully execute it.

In addition to an entry-level tier of digital option for $7 vs $25, you can buy 240 pages of work ($35) for less than the 88 pages bundle of 499 + this... thing ($40).

If nothing else, this should demonstrate how important it is for independent creators to be able to market themselves and their product to build a customer base. Watching Meyer's journey from artist to writer to publisher to "guy who has a mailing list" has been instructive if nothing else.

So what happened to all the money he boasted that he had?

So what happened to all the money he boasted that he had?
You're looking at it. It's building the shitty treehouse. Are you not impressed?

Honestly, between splitting the Xenotype money with Ody (who has since told him to fuck off), and the ridiculous and costly printing decisions he made (thanks to him listening to WC imbeciles), it's amazing he made anything.

EDIT TO ADD:

This should go without saying, but if Liam had both money and an inkling of common sense, he would hire a contractor to put this thing together. He's no Bob Vila. It's because he lacks either that we're enjoying this bountiful harvest of milk. @TESTEFY-HD is working around the clock to bottle as much of it as he can.

That Killing Joke one is a great example of the difference between 'garish' and 'shit', which Frog should maybe look into.

I bought that 'deluxe' hardcover in 2008 with the Bolland recolor. Had myself quite an autistic 'ree' moment with it, at one point I was questioning my own memory, like 'Did I just imagine how awesome this comic was?'

Then I realized it had been 'Special Editioned' and boring Brian Bolland had painted over the amazing John Higgins colors! I was like ree.

I think later they published another edition with both colorings in it. I was pissed! But ultimately the whole debacle was an important education for me in the powerful magic of color.

And fortunately, one of the actual good comics I found in my attic the other day was the original 1988 TPB, with the Higgins colors printed on nice quality paper, much better!

And hey, maybe Narzack will release a super-deluxe, double-color-job edition of 499 one day! Then will you philistines stop questioning the genius of Narzack?? LMAO!

The cucking is lame but having to deal with "It would be a shame if something happened" tier threats over a stupid book from "concerned individuals" who could actually follow through isn't a great situation. Not even Meyer is holding it against him. Might as well get the book, it's been long enough.

Just as long as you never make a deal with someone proven to fold faster than Superman on laundry day. ;)

That's the Absolute edition. But the classic Higgins version is printed on thin newsprint you can see through. It's a travesty. It includes an afterword in which Higgins describes his coloring choices and accepts the recolor with grace and warmth, which is something Tim Sale (in his introduction) and Brian Bolland couldn't muster for the original version.

A thing with older comics being reprinted is that the original colour was not for glossy paper. Once you see a 70's or 80's comicbook printed on glossy paper you realize how much it sucks (while cheap, pulpy paper makes it look like it belongs in a museum)
