I have one I got from a buddy who had put somethingorother linux as a separate boot partition type thing so I guess you can. I reinstalled just chrome because I just wanted a simple little gizmo for watching synchtubes and crap on.

I don't use it beyond basic webmail, cytube and taima, but it's done everything I've needed from it without changing the OS.

I read reviews about Chrome OS crapping out after a short period so that's a reason why I'm interested in installing a different OS on the chromebook.

Sorry for the double post since this is mostly question based but, what is the best computer manufacturer? I've mostly had bad experiences with Dell. I'm interested in ASUS but I've been reading reviews that they bad as well though they're top ranked in most PC magazines and sites.

Go for business laptops, since consumer laptops are being built to die after 12 to 18 months, and they are unfixable since everything is soldered to the motherboard.

Business HP, Dell, maybe Lenovo if you're looking for either a older model or a high end model like the P50 but they've gone downhill.

If you want a basic Thinkpad get an X220, it's literally an unkillable brick disguised as an ultraportable.

I have a refurb HP Elitebook (their tough-but-not-super-tough line) that I've been pleased with after I reinstalled Windows from scratch after I got it.
As it was they just deleted the old user or something, the registry was filled with shit.

Gaming laptops are also pretty good, but that shit can be expensive. I would also say ASUS is fine in general, but that is my experience with the brand.

Also, is not the fact that the motherboard getting damaged makes it unrepairable. Is the fact that the cost of replacing the mb is generally not worth

I prefer mobile workstations over gaming laptops, mostly because they're better built and in some cases even spill resistant. My 8770w is built like a tank.

I had a sick family member so I saw how doctors and hospitals treat them and they keep running through some pretty rough stuff, so I got a refurb one.

One of the speakers busted after about a year but otherwise it's lived up to my expectations.

Years ago.

Gentoo isn't hard to use compared to your average server/programmer focused linux distro. It just takes retarded amounts of time to compile everything from scratch all the time.

Though in that same line of thought, I'm looking into NixOS. The key feature of it, to me, is that you can install multiple versions of packages at the same time. I'll be pumped if I no longer have to break my currently running chrome by upgrading glibc at the wrong time.

I've been able to compile most of applications I use relatively quickly. Though QTWebEngine takes an ungodly amount of time, and major system upgrades can be a pain in the ass. All in all, I find it incredibly difficult to sacrifice a distro that can grow with me and my occasionally changing ideas.

I did. I personally prefer Void (and if I want something idiot-proof or on a PC I don't want to fight with configuring shit on, Ubuntu Mate)

I use arch. I'm a big fan of it. The distro itself is pretty solid. It's very slackware-esque, if anyone remembers that. But really, the gem is its documentation. It's top notch.

The timezone is US/Eastern. Sorry about the gap from 11/8 to 11/11, I was out of town and couldn't restart the servers.

We've got that spike in the middle of 11/11, and it seems that we've still had higher than average traffic.

So at the office there's wifi from my isp in addition to the company wifi.
ISP's WiFi is coming up all of the sudden as only having signal for ipv4, no network access listed for ipv6.

Is there some simple trick to force everything through ipv4 on Windows 7 laptops? Seems like my phone gets anywhere I want on the ISP wifi but not the two laptops I tried.

So across the street is a hotel with free wifi. I can sorta reach the signal but not reliably.

Glancing at an old router I have it says it needs the mac address to duplicate a signal.

Is there a way to amplify the signal from across the street without having access to their gizmo?

There are ways to plant a device to connect to the hotel's wifi and use that connection as the upstream, and then it can provide a wifi access point downstream for you to use.

Or there are probably ways to physically magnify the signal as well.

Go into your adaptor settings under network. Click on the properties and uncheck ipv6 though it should still see any ipv4 unless that option is disabled. So you might have other issues.

What you need to do is boost your antenne. Google for it a there are ways to DIY.

It ended up the wifi router was just borked and ivp had nothing to do with it.
