Culture ‘Concord’ Dev Writes Off Critics: “Why Would I Care About A Bunch Of Talentless Freaks Hating On It?” - Peak player count of just 679 lol

In a move that’s sure to engender some good will for the widely-panned hero shooter, a former Firewalk Studios dev who worked on Concord has written off the game’s numerous critics as nothing more than “talentless freaks”.

This PR misstep for the already embattled title came courtesy of one Xander Farrell, a now-former Firewalk Studios member who worked on Concord as a view model animator (in other words, the animations undertaken by the player character’s model when in first-person view).

Admittedly, things started off innocently enough, with Farrell, who uses they/them pronouns, taking to their Twitter on August 23rd to congratulate the Concord team on the release of their title.

“It’s Concord release day!” beamed the animator. “So insanely proud of the team and what they (and we) have accomplished. A labour of love like nothing else. Been playing it so much since early access started a few days ago, and I’m so excited for it to be available to everyone.”

“And I’m so honoured to have had this be my first AAA game. was a huge learning experience, lots of struggles but I’m glad to have gone through them,” they added. “Time to go play!”

Unfortunately, from there, things took a sharp turn to disaster.

In response to Farrell’s posts, Twitter user @Preston55272266 attempted to offer the animator their genuine condolences for Concord‘s abysmal reception, telling them, “I’m so sorry this has to be your first. I do not believe it is you, or any of the other devs fault that this game has performed so poorly. I can tell that a lot of effort was put into completing this game, it just came at the wrong time and genre.”

But rather than thanking them for their message, liking their post, or simply acknowledging their post in private, Farrell instead offered the now-deleted reply, “Eh. I don’t really care. It was a huge labour from a lot of insanely talent people making an awesome game. Why would I care about a bunch of talentless freaks hating on it?”

“I’m sure having fun playing it,” the animator concluded. “And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

To further compound matters for the Concord team, despite Farrell’s assertion, it seems the game absolutely needs the interest of some of those “talentless freaks” in order to survive.

At current, per info provided by Steam analytics outlet Steam DB, the game has only managed to draw in a peak player count of just 679 in the roughly 24 hours since its release.

To that end, for anyone masochistic enough to want endure a game whose gameplay and writing are both outdated by about a decade, Concord is now available on the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.

I know shit about vgs, but those designs are quite ugly. Is the game at least good? I could tolerate ugly characters if the game is good enough, but for what I've read, not even that...
From the gameplay I’ve seen? It’s slower, as in physically slower everyone moves at a glacial pace compared to most shooters, Overwatch. But that game came out a decade ago and had at least a few moderately attractive characters to look at during games. This game isn’t going to be having much porn of the characters made to keep it in the public consciousness that is for damned sure, and so it won’t be long at this rate before it disappears into the ether forever.

As someone who has taught at the university level, I can say that in the US, the honorific of "Professor" is very much reserved for someone who is an academic that is permanent faculty at an accredited college or university, who has a terminal degree (at least a master's or equivalent), and does not have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in their field of instruction. If they are permanent faculty and they are a PhD or equivalent you always call them "Doctor" as a matter of respect for the degree they hold. I once made the mistake in undergraduate of calling a PhD "professor" and was then given a 30 minute lecture on how you never call a PhD "professor" unless they allow it (you can be assured, I never made that mistake again). If you are not a permanent member of the faculty, have a terminal degree, and do not hold a PhD or equivalent, then you are properly called an "Instructor". If someone is adjunct faculty but holds a PhD or equivalent, you still address them as "Doctor" as it is respect of the degree, regardless of the permanency of their position, or lack thereof.

Outside of an academic environment no one that is a professor, and especially an instructor, ever expects to be addressed as such by anyone. If someone is a professor and someone addresses them as such, and they are not a student or subordinate, in a non-academic social setting, it would most likely be an indication of their personal respect for their academic accomplishments and/or of their personal closeness to that individual, but it would never, ever be expected. Many people would actively discourage being addressed as such unless the person addressing them was very close to them personally, it is a particularly formal event, and there is a substantial degree of mutual respect between them, most likely as colleagues.

For someone to give themselves that title and use it in a non-academic setting is just appalling. If I actually met someone like that IRL I think I would have to immediately walk away for the chance that I might snap right on the spot and tell them what a load of unbelievable self-aggrandizing horseshit they are engaging in.

Subsidies to the entertainment industry is YOUR money. Go ahead and pirate—you already paid for them.

I like the way you think.

If they wanted Concord to succeed, they should've considered not making it a 5v5 Hero Shooter with competitive play in mind.
Which was likely the one decision with Concord they had no control over because Sony wants a live service hit.

...It WAS his fault. Will Preston55271488 learn his lesson?

Anti-woke journos need the rope, too.

I will never, ever understand the high IQ powermove of shitting on a potential playerbase when a product is already tanking. Anyone with common sense would be trying to farm and hoard all the goodwill they can, but these morons time and again just double down and tank their game/show/etc. further.
Because those people don't care, for them the important part is being able to point at themselves as "one of the good ones" and just move from company to company feasting on the corpses of dead IPs.

They think it makes them look cool and to be fair in their in group it kinda does. These people used to called Social Justice Warriors for a reason. Their self and group image is based on fighting against deserving despicable enemies and their fighting style is shit talking on internet. Alot of their social capital is based on being the biggest asshole towards acceptable targets.

So not that different from us farmers but we tend to realize that you need keep that shit separate from your actual life, especially your work.
