Why? I don't understand. EA is ran by the Enemies of God, but why would they hire someone that is demonstrably incompetent? Their typical strategy is to hire someone good and corrupt them.

EA did rehire the original Sims 4 director Rachel Franklin, after she left the company to work at Facebook (?), in some sort of diversity/anti-toxicity role.

the worst part about concord is that they decided not to do a F2P rerelease so everyone could laugh at it flopping again

I thought the same, especially after Veilguard was an IMMENSE fuckup for EA.

I think to an EXTENT EA has enough funds they don't need to worry because yearly sports games, but ffs this really seems almost frightening that they just DO NOT care. They appear entirely aware and CONTENT with burning millions.

I suppose this isn't new in entertainment, but this is perhaps the most BLATANT example of this.

I believe you are right on that. Sports Slop 20XX make such insane amounts of money, even more now thanks to gamers being condition into accepting microtransactions, that they likely throw that cash away either as a tax write off or even on the slim chance it will make some cash.

For Concord they definitely got mondo DEI bucks from Blackrock too.

Following up on this, the auction for the Plaque was removed:

Is it possible that the troon/DEI hire who previously owned it decided to take it back from GoodWill's hands by withdrawing the auction? I can totally see the original owner selling it on Ebay so they can get the thousands instead of for a charity

EA also makes tons of easy bucks off of The Sims, since the player base has severe Stockholm Syndrome and continue to buy the broken ass DLCs, even though The Sims 4 is getting more and more broken and will never be completely fixed.

True. I looked it up and they actually make MORE MONEY THAN VALVE, and valve are known as fucking money printers, who basically HAVE NO CONCERN for """budgets""".

So it seems they truly can eat several veilguards / concords if they wanted before it became a financial problem.

EA a few years back was making a billion dollars a year just from fifa microtransactions alone. That's not including the rest of their annual sports slop, shit like the sims, all of their bullshit mobile games, etc. Throwing away 100 million dollars basically means nothing for the company.

That being said, with all of the games EA regularly cancels part way through development, those had to have been so fucking horrendous even EA wasn't willing to continue wasting money on them.

She appears to be currently working AT EA formally now as a "principle world designer". Sounds like an important role, so nobody learned anything. I think this is also a sign of things to come at EA.

I guarantee it is. The retards that run these places never learn.

They decided is was too much work and money turning something good into shit, so they thought they'd just go right to the logical end of the process and start with total shit. It will shorten the production times for the output of complete shit by a tremendous amount.

That seems unlikely. Once you donate something to GoodWill, it's gone for good. The GoodWill auctions tend to be for higher value items that they don't think will reach the right audience locally. Why they pulled it I don't think we'll ever know.

I wonder WHY??

Was it withdrawn by the owner? was there too many racist name bidders?

Did someone STEAL the plaque????

This leaves too many questions for my comfort.
People fucking with them would be the biggest reason.
It will probably be relisted with a disclaimer that all proceeds go to a tranny charity(lie) to pwn da chuds.

It's a symptom of the irrational forces at play in the market in general. Between DEI grants, short-term vulture capitalists, government regulations and sheer institutional inertia, the normal feedback loop from making bad product -> product failing -> course correct/crash is so distorted that a company is perversely incentivised to churn out slop just to keep the next quarterly line go up even if that means the company just fails in the long run.

I'm thinking about buying a boxed copy. They're going for way cheaper than right after it got cancelled.

You could buy your own DVD case, print a label for it and put a cardboard disc inside it and it would be as accurate a copy of Concord as that.
There's nothing on the disc its like 78mb of an exe that lets it download the rest off PSN - which you can no longer do

Now look at the AAA games industry. Concord was in production for eight years and Veilguard was in production for a decade.
This is tangential but I think it's interesting so I'm posting it here. I was watching a video by a relatively new YouTuber called iFrames called 'The Death Of Our Favorite Game Studios'. The video is basically what we've said here a million times: that these legacy studios now exist in name only, but during the Bioware section he put up this great timeline graph detailing their release schedule and how it coincided with key members of the studio leaving or returning (then leaving again).
Bioware Timeline.webp
The main reason I bring it up is because of what you said about development cycles. Bioware released the same number of games between 2011 and 2012 as they have between 2017 and 2024, and they've released less games since the co-founders left in 2012 (4) than they did in the entire period after being bought by EA (6).
I wonder WHY??
Is it possible they were contacted by a private buyer who offered a crazy sum to have it withdrawn immediately, kind of like eBay's buy it now option?

I think Sony already learned their lesson on that front after Morbius got re-released to cinemas and made like 5 bucks.

Maybe? I saw on twitter that stuttering craig seemed to be SERIOUSLY contemplating buying it. He did arbitrarily drop 80 bucks on a whim to buy 2 copies of concord, so I kinda wonder if thats possible.

might be he made some calls and offereding something stupid like 5k, OR that the seller saw one of the biggest people mocking it would probably win the bid and pulled it.

That kinda makes me wonder if they are trying to make sure haters don't buy it but like....HOW?

The Fitgirl release of The Sims 4 (which includes all DLCs at the time of each release/update) is the only viable version of it. It's fully integrated, and a fully-portable installation. No DRM, no spyware, no online checks, no phoning home.

Craig should be thankful. It's a lolcow artifact, a genuine cursed object. He's already cursed to wear makeup. If he got his hands on that, he'd probably troon out.

I wonder if the plaque could be argued as company property of Sony? It has the producers name but maybe it was only supposed to be something for them to keep in their office, but when the mass firing began someone scooped it up? It could be total bullshit I wouldnt put it past sony to call up and threaten goodwill as the whole story is bad press for them especially as every other live service game meltdowns around them they dont want Concord to be brought up again.
