That's what stuck out to me. That's a well used budget automobile. It will grant the driver no status and the occasional inconvenient breakdown. Even a rich cheapskate is going to own a newer economy automobile to avoid getting stranded by the side of the road. A man who likes to brag about his wealth is going to make sure that the thing has 4 fucking hubcaps.
So it might not be his car but that big house suddenly becomes a lot less impressive knowing there is drama and at least one other disgusting slob of a furry yiffing around.
The 1% is 400k a year it makes zero sense to live like that if you could pay for the 100k house and 1k car in cash with a middle class chunk of change left over every single year. 100k is on the upper end of devops pay in ohio, no startup is going to pay like that there. They don't have the money and if they did they'd move to a town with a greater concentration of talent.

I don't see a garden. There aren't even any geraniums or some other decorative masochistic plant that thrives on punishment. All I see is a lawn that needs mowing. And the 'young contractors' sounds rather like the next door neighbour's early teenage kid making some pocket money, provided Connor hasn't so thoroughly creeped out the entire block to the extent that there's a blanket ban on anyone under the age of sixteen making eye contact with him, let alone saying, "Hello" and talking about the weather.

Anyone that grew up with money knows that you don't talk about money.
The way he constantly talks about money leads me to believe he's trailer trash that managed to get a decent paying job. I doubt he's actually rich and thinks being able to pay your bills every month means you're a trillionaire.
