Content creators in financial disarray after Patreon declines payments

Some creators on Patreon have been left in panic after finding that the platform has declined their payout for this month.

According to tweets from Patreon users, internal problems with the platform caused every single pledge to a creator to be declined. This chargeback also allegedly triggered credit fraud marks from banks.

Those using Patreon as a crowdfunding tool have also posted screenshots of their patrons' pledges being declined in bulk. This isn't ideal for creators relying on Patreon as a main source of income.

Yikes

Patreon is yet to comment on the issue. The last noise from the company was that it was resolving some connectivity issues.

I think we will see a lot of cow chimping because of this. Ready your salt reservoirs.

It works in reverse for banks.

Yeah, London is the world's financial capital for a reason. They have a special office (of which I can't remember the name) dedicated solely to fellating banks that do business in the UK and maintaining their influence. These banks - not the government or other private lobbies - dictate most of the UK's financial and economic policy, and that's not rhetoric in the anti-corporate socialist way; banking establishments are deeply and fundamentally ingrained into the day-to-day functioning of the British government and the city of London and have been for decades if not centuries. Patreon moving there could easily make financial sense.

Okay, if you want to make a living doing what you love, fine. If you want to use Patreon to make that living, okay. But the problem is that some of these people clearly put their eggs in one basket. Having these tools to help you are nice, but they shouldn't an over-reliance on them.

You can tell that these people don't have a back-up plan which is crazy to me. What the hell did you expect? You can't just make one account to have your shit on it and pretend it will always pull through. You're telling me you couldn't save ANYTHING from your money. Some of these people make thousands of dollars a month from Patreon alone. You're telling me you don't have any money to spare for a rainy day? An emergency fund? Nothing?

And then people are going to go on the pity party and beg even more for money. Give me a break.

Its not just about having a back-up; as other people said this will be sorted in a week. For anyone who has their shit together, this will be an unpleasant "shoot, my paycheck will a week late, better make sure I don't put anything on the debit card", but most of the "creators" with a patreon have zero fiscal sense; who needs a reserve fund? (That's money that could be buying funko pops!). Delay of access to that money means they'll be even later on stuff they're probably already behind.

And anyone with a Patreon worth subscribing to will be fine. Most people will resub, or donate in other ways to support the content. What's going to be excellent to see is a bunch of people who don't put out content won't have their betas bothering to resub.

Lol holy shit my friend works for an e-commerce financial institution and was just telling me that patreon recently switched to them. He complains nonstop about how everybody who works there is completely incompetent, I wonder if this is due to the transition or their fuck up. I'll ask him about it when we go for drinks tonight.

I know nobody can see or hear me but I'm poiting and laughing.

Unfortunately, I have a chest infection, so my laugh sounds like I'm undead and then I collapse into a coughing fit.

Damn you , humor. Damn you to hell.

Not going to say I believe you but I have seen the CEO or whatever and he looks like quite the dumb ass.

LIBOR is also a huge deal and is so for good reason. Imagine not being able to pay the bills because you had to skip one paycheck or better yet missed out on the $100-$300 most of these people seem to get.
