Nyk is a millionaire, he won't be running out of money any time soon, unless he does something really stupid like buying himself lots of real estate all over the world like a lot of celebrities do, that they are later forced to sell at a loss when their marketability starts running out. I don't think Nyk will ever detransition and I believe he's serious about getting the snip.
The reason why only a minority get the snip is not just because a lot of these trenders are just trans-LARPing with no real commitment to go through a full transition, it's also because 1) in countries where there is gatekeeping you have to be a diagnosed dysphoric to get the snip covered by insurance and 2) in countries like the US where the surgery is commercially available at privately run gender clinics, you still need a referral from someone who has diagnosed you with GD, and the procedure is quite expensive on the free market (read this Quora post for price comparisons). Nyk is rich so he can easily pay for bottom surgery, he can also easily get a referral (gender specialists hand them out like hot cakes, otherwise he can tap into his dad's "connections"). I think it's taking Nyk some time to get the snip because he's probably going to see one of the top SRS surgeons who have a long waiting times, like Bowers (3 years) or McGinn (2 years). There is nothing standing in the way of someone like Nyk getting SRSs. (Except fear perhaps, he seemed quite terrified at the prospect of getting FFS if that The Darkeness video was anything to go by, also looking at his subsequent statements about how he was up all night the day before the surgery.)
There's also Nyk's public admission from the deleted Livestream with Milo Steward that he never got himself diagnosed with GD before he went the informed consent route. I suspect this is the main reason Nyk finally decided to see a therapist, to get the ball rolling on getting that referral he needs for the SRS. The catch here is that Nyk only went to see a therapist after two years of HRT and after FFS, so how the fuck is that therapist ever going to dispute his LARP? That therapist has only seen Nyk as a feminine presenting transwoman. He never saw Nyk as the fucked up drug addict alcoholic who ordered HRT from the darkweb only to end up at an informed consent clinic thanks to his new-found Patreon wealth. If that person, that 2017 person, had walked into the therapist's office from the start, the therapist might have even turned down Nyk, also taking his psychiatric history into account. Nyk deliberately made sure he only walked into a therapist's office almost two years into his transition, because "first impressions are lasting impressions" and Nyk knows that. If the therapist's first impression of Nyk as a trannie is of a post-FFS already thoroughly feminized Nyk, that therapist will be more likely to go along with the LARP than a therapist who had seen Nyk as a man from the start. It's all very sneaky and calculated on Nyk's part, I am sure.
Another thing that Bailey and Blanchard have talked about is that HSTSs are reluctant to get SRS whereas AGPs want to get it as soon as possible. HSTSs don't put as much emphasis on having a neovag as AGPs do. For AGPs getting a neovag is the crowning achievement proving that they are a true and honest woman because they are fetishists who fetishize female genitals (given that they are already intimately familiar with vaginas as straight men). On the other hands HSTSs present as women because they want the straight boy, they don't want the neovag per se (since they are gay boys who are not familiar with vaginas at all and probably find them gross anyway).
