He really hates winter

To be fair he does have a point winter in fact blows especially if you live somewhere like the UK
I'm really hoping that Clem doesn't actually think he's affecting time by not changing his clock.

I'll be the first to agree that Daylight Savings Time is a holdover from an earlier time and really should be abandoned but you're not actually "gaining" or "losing" time. It's just how we measure time is off.
I don't think he actually has a full grasp of what time or daylight savings are

Living in the UK alone blows. If it's not foggy it's raining. If it's not raining it's kinda cold and dreary. And I'm sorry but where he is it rarely gets below freezing in the winter. Come talk to me when it's -40 for days at a time with a wind chill that will freeze your face off in seconds if you don't bundle up properly and then we can talk cold.

And those of you who have / had to face Minnesota winters, or heaven forbid Canadian winters, know that I feel your pain.

He's 40 years old and never worked a day in his life, the only time he has to worry about are the years wasted, he's still getting up during the afternoon and considers 1pm a good compromise compared to 3pm.

Of Course Clem doesn't bother to wish the guy well, he doesn't care about comments unless its about himself.

Well, I happened across this thread and I just had to sign up and share a bit.

I actually went to school with Clem. I first encountered him around 1984/5 when I was 5 or 6 - he started at the same primary I was attending, so was a year or so below me. Didn't think much of him at first until the kid had a colossal meltdown in the dinner hall because they took away his plastic straw that he'd presumably brought from home to drink his water with.

That sort of set the trend for my experience of him in school, with meltdowns being a fairly regular occurrence. He had a handful of friends, or at least kids who tried, but I don't think he was interested even then.

Anyway, as time passed, our paths diverged, and it was a few years later, when I was in my late teens that, through motorcycles, I met his father Malcolm. Lovely chap, absolute genius and without any exaggeration, the finest engineer on the planet. The man would build working model steam engines from scratch in his garage, starting with literally a block if metal and do everything manually. Not a computer in sight. He didn't really talk about Clem, I guess he'd given up on trying to get through to him. Malcolm sadly died a few years later from a heart attack.

From what I've seen here this evening, Clem has obviously been a recluse for a very very long time. I figured he'd just gone off to university or something because in spite of his issues, the kid was clever. That, and I never saw him around town and nor did anyone else. I have sometimes wondered what happened to him, hence I found myself here and fuck me, this was a journey.

Anyway, if you guys have any questions, I'll answer as best I can, but tbh I've pretty much covered it already.

Welcome to the Farms!

I'd suggest getting verified by one of our lovely mods, we get a lot of people coming in claiming to know cows IRL, so sorry if I'm coming across a bit paranoid or cynical.

However, I do have a few questions.

Do you know where Clem's obsession with electronics came from and how it started?
When did Clem just stop developing?
Any funny/interesting meltdown stories?
Just any general funny/interesting stories about Clem? Malcolm stories are also welcome as he seems like a legit cool dude.

Mate. Thats pure exaggeration. Are we to believe that our Clementine was drinking water from a strawer in Eighty Fourer? Well, thats two Oi's down from me.

Skepticism is perfectly understandable, how does one go about verification?

However to attempt to answer your questions; as far as the electronics go, that was probably middle school which would've been early 90s by the time he got there. As I said he was a year or two behind me. We had a pretty cool CDT teacher, whose name I can't remember for the life of me, but I remember for my part being introduced to soldering, so perhaps it stems from that? Perhaps it's a variation of a genetic thing? His dad was an incredible engineer after all. As for any melt down stories, honestly that first one was most memorable, mainly because I'd never ever encountered such a thing before. There were subsequent ones for sure, but given the difference in our ages - I'm now 42, so he must be 40 by now, I wouldn't have witnessed many of them. Also my propensity towards recreational drug use in my 20s has frazzled the synapses a bit.

As for his development... from what I saw on the videos, and to be honest I only watched a couple of them, he seems better in many ways than I remember, although it's fair to say my last interactions with him, of which there were few to begin with, were 25+ years ago when I left newmarket upper school at 16 in 1995. That said, I am somewhat... I dunno... I guess part of me had hoped he'd managed to shake off what afflicted him and maybe in some way he has, but in others it has definitely tightened its grip. Just makes me thankful for being the twisted degenerate I am really. I have my share of mental health issues, but fuck me, I've got nothing on the guy. It's probably a bit harsh saying that, but at least I've the minerals to own it.

As for a Malcolm story... I'm sure you guys have done some research yourselves, so you know he lost a leg as a result of a motorcycle accident? Well, while he was recovering, he was talking to the doctor out what tools were used etc and how difficult they were to obtain due to the specialised nature. No one made them. So malcolm says, "I can do that. Once I'm recovered, send me specs and what grade of surgical steel to use and I'll make some." And he did. Subsequently, as this doctor often travelled to do lectures and training, the subject of tools would often come up and Malcolm would then be contacted about making another set. There were sets going off all over the world from a little garage off nimbus way.

Go to 'Members', scroll down to the bottom section and send one of them a private message, they'll tell you what to do.

I didn't know about Malcolm's leg though! Pretty cool he made some surgical equipment as a hobby though!

What was Clem like during secondary school? He's got this "child forever" thing going on where he'll change his voice so it sounds more childlike, he really doesn't like being an adult and still lives in his childhood bedroom like a teenager, don't think he's ever had a job. Ever met his Mother Susan?

He sometimes checks up on this thread so there's a good chance he'll see your posts.

He'd be a hit and could satisfy his lo fi electronics obsession

As a good friend of mine once said, "you know you're getting old when you complain about today's world like your parents did when you were young."

The difference is the rest of us accept this new world as being the new reality that we live in and we do what we can to live in it. Clem is in for a rude awakening when his parents are gone and he has to live on his own. He's not going to be able to make it and he's going be old by the time he's 40.

Yeah, there was a video where you could see that he searched "how to delete a kiwifarms forum" in his browsers search-bar, classic Clement
