I've read a good amount on the condition and by far the best examination and explanation was in Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us (haha amogus) which takes a look at them from the professional, clinical angle. The name pretty much has it right, psychopaths (as a condition, not just a term for anyone you don't like or is manipulative) are 'without conscience' and are basically soulless, completely selfish "people" with absolutely 0 regard for others. The book wisely cautions readers not to go around diagnosing people since it's a difficult and nuanced process, but it does offer a checklist of symptoms;
